Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs suffered a hamstring injury in Monday's practice, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The team has only said that Gibbs is being evaluated for a leg injury.
Chiefs WR Marquise Brown doesn't need surgery on the shoulder he dislocated in Saturday night's preseason opener. He was released from the hospital the next day and is back in Kansas City with the team.
Giants HC Brian Daboll gave an update on WR Malik Nabers' ankle injury following Monday's practice. “They’re still doing evaluation on him but he's a little sore today, so we'll back off him and take it from there," Daboll said. “I don't think it's fractured. He just twisted up a little bit, wasn't on contact or anything like that.”
The Athletic's Daniel Popper left Chargers RB Kimani Vidal off his latest 53-man roster projection. Popper has RBs Gus Edwards, J.K. Dobbins, Jaret Patterson, and Isaiah Spiller making the team over Vidal, the sixth-round rookie.
The Dolphins announced Monday that they're activating Edge Jaelan Phillips off the physically unable to perform list. That makes Phillips eligible to practice just 8.5 months after he tore his right Achilles' tendon.
Packers RB MarShawn Lloyd exited Saturday's preseason game with a hamstring injury. It is considered "not serious" and he should be ready for the season, according to insider Jordan Schultz.
Dolphins WR Odell Beckham is Week-to-Week with an undisclosed injury per HC Mike Daniel. Beckham isn't expected to come off the PUP this week and will be evaluated again next week.
Panthers WR Xavier Legette returned to practice today after suffering a foot injury a week ago. His MRI results were negative for a fracture and it appears Legette is back and healthy.
Rams HC Sean McVay loved what he saw from rookie WR Jordan Whittington in Sunday's preseason opener vs. the Cowboys. Whittington caught six of nine targets for 74 yards. “He’s gonna be a factor for us," McVay said after the game.
Giants WR Malik Nabers suffered an apparent left ankle injury in Sunday's training camp session, according to The Athletic's Charlotte Carroll. The team believes it's a "minor ankle sprain," Carroll adds, but Nabers is expected to undergo further testing.
Jacksonville's preseason opener found WR Christian Kirk excluded from two-WR sets. The Jaguars opened Saturday's game against the Chiefs with Gabe Davis and rookie Brian Thomas Jr. as the WRs in "12" personnel (two TEs) for the first two plays. Kirk entered for three-WR sets and ultimately played seven snaps vs. nine for Thomas and Davis. (QB Trevor Lawrence played nine as well.) Thomas and Davis ran five routes to Kirk's four. Davis drew the only two WR targets before the first team left.
Raiders starters played 14 snaps in Saturday's preseason opener against the Vikings, and both TEs spent most of that on the field. Michael Mayer played 12 of 14 snaps, ran six routes and drew two targets, according to Pro Football Focus. Rookie Brock Bowers played 11 snaps, ran five routes and drew two targets. And the Raiders moved him around. PFF counted six snaps in a "traditional" TE position, two at outside receiver, one in the slot, and two in the backfield. That aligns with how Raiders coaches have discussed using the first-round pick -- as well as the stated plan to deploy two TEs often.
WR Jahan Dotson worked as the Commanders' primary slot man in the team's preseason opener against the Jets. He opened the game in the slot, with Terry McLaurin and Dyami Brown as the outside WRs. According to Pro Football Focus, Dotson matched McLaurin's and QB Jayden Daniels' 11 first-team snaps -- while Brown totaled just four. Dotson went on to play some with the second unit as well, though, after McLaurin and Daniels left. Dotson also remained in the slot when Olamide Zaccheaus replaced Brown for some three-WR sets with the first team. That's especially noteworthy, because Zaccheaus played 61% and 68% of his snaps in the slot the past two years (in Atlanta, then Philly).
Chiefs WR Marquise Brown suffered a sternoclavicular joint dislocation in his left shoulder in Saturday's preseason game, HC Andy Reid said afterward. "He'll miss some time," Reid said, adding that this is similar to the injury WR Tyreek Hill suffered in 2019. Hill missed four games with that injury.
Bears TE Cole Kmet caught one of two targets from QB Caleb Williams for 26 yards in Saturday's preseason game vs. the Bills. But the big story was Kmet's usage. He and TE Gerald Everett split time, with both running a route on five of Williams' eight dropbacks (62.5%). Everett actually out-snapped Kmet 14 to 11.
Chiefs WR Marquise Brown injured a shoulder on the first play of Saturday night’s preseason game vs. the Jaguars. Brown made an 11-yard reception before landing awkwardly on the shoulder.
Packers RB MarShawn Lloyd left Saturday’s preseason game with a hamstring injury. Lloyd carried once for 8 yards before departing.
Niners RB Christian McCaffrey downplayed the significance of his calf injury late this week in an interview on Sirius XM NFL Radio. "If we had a game, I would play," he said.
The Falcons won't play QB Kirk Cousins at all in the preseason, but don't worry. Cousins says he'll line up behind center for the regular-season opener.
The Eagles started Devin White and Zack Baun as their off-ball LBs in Friday night's preseason opener against the Ravens. That's especially noteworthy because LB Nakobe Dean entered the game after them. That seems a pretty clear signal Dean isn't close to retaining his starting job from last year. White and Baun both joined Philly as free agents this offseason. Baun joined the Saints as a third-round pick back in 2020 but never found his way into the lineup. He reached a 50% snap share just three times across four seasons in New Orleans.
