Rams HC Sean McVay loved what he saw from rookie WR Jordan Whittington in Sunday's preseason opener vs. the Cowboys. Whittington caught six of nine targets for 74 yards. “He’s gonna be a factor for us," McVay said after the game.
What They're Saying
More from McVay on Whittington: “He’s just a mature rookie… He’s a grown man and he played like a grown man with the ball in his hands. Did a great job without it. I just really like him, he’s gonna be a factor for us and I thought today was a good start for him. And he's the type of guy who's only gonna continue to grow from that."
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
The Rams are obviously set at their top two WR spots with Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp. WR Demarcus Robinson had a strong finish to last season and has been the clear No. 3 in training camp.
But Whittington seems to be pushing for the No. 4 WR job. That wouldn't make him a fantasy factor. But an injury to any of those top three guys could put Whittington squarely on the radar in McVay's WR-friendly offense.
The rookie still isn't draftable outside of leagues that go 20+ rounds deep. But keep him on your waiver-wire watchlist in case of an injury to Nacua, Kupp, or Robinson this season.
Dynasty Impact
Whittington is worth stashing in most dynasty leagues. He wasn't a particularly exciting prospect, totaling 1,757 receiving yards across five seasons at Texas and going in the sixth round of this spring's draft. But the Rams have shown a penchant for hitting on mid- and late-round WRs.
