David Montgomery Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

The Lions named John Morton their new OC. He'll replace Ben Johnson, who took the Bears HC job after leading Detroit to three straight top-five finishes in both points and total yards. Morton was a senior offensive assistant for Johnson's first Lions squad in 2022 before spending the last two years as Broncos passing game coordinator. His only previous OC experience came at USC in 2009 and 2010 and with the Jets in 2017. That Jets team -- quarterbacked by Josh McCown and Bryce Petty -- ranked 28th in total yards and 24th in points. We won't hold that against Morton. He'll now be working with one of the most loaded offenses in the league, although it's fair to expect some dropoff in play-calling from Johnson to Morton.

Lions RB David Montgomery (knee) put in a full week of practice and is not listed on the final injury report for the Divisional Round. He'll play in Saturday night's game vs. the Commanders -- and it looks like he might be ready for something close to his usual role. There are still questions about Montgomery's effectiveness in his first game back from his MCL injury, making him a risk/reward play in fantasy lineups.

Lions RB David Montgomery (knee) was listed as a full participant on Tuesday's practice report. Detroit only held a walkthrough, but this confirms that Montgomery is on track to play vs. the Commanders on Saturday. It's still unclear exactly how close to 100% he'll be for that one, a little less than five weeks after injuring his MCL. We'll keep tabs on his status.

Lions HC Dan Campbell said Tuesday that he expects RB David Montgomery (knee) to be available for the Divisional Round. Montgomery injured his right MCL on December 15 but chose rehab over surgery in hopes of returning for the playoffs. It looks like he'll hit that goal -- although it's unclear how effective Montgomery will be coming off the injury. He's a risky pick in NFL playoff fantasy contests but carries plenty of upside, especially if the Lions play three games. The news is a slight hit to RB Jahmyr Gibbs, but he remains the No. 2 RB in our playoff rankings.

Lions RB David Montgomery is targeting the Divisional Round for his return from an MCL injury, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Detroit will get the NFC's No. 1 seed and a first-round bye if they win out, so Montgomery might end up not missing any playoff games. Although risky, he could be a good pick in playoff fantasy football contests.

Lions RB David Montgomery (knee) is hoping to return at some point during the postseason, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. After getting multiple opinions on his injured MCL, Montgomery has opted for rest and rehab instead of surgery. He can still be dropped from all redraft rosters but is back in play at least as a flier in playoff fantasy contests. We'll keep you updated on his progress and a potential return target.

Lions HC Dan Campbell said Monday that RB David Montgomery needs season-ending surgery on the MCL he injured in the Week 15 loss to the Bills. It's a massive blow to a Detroit offense that's fueled by its running game. But Montgomery's absence figures to turn RB Jahmyr Gibbs into a league-winner. In three games without Montgomery last year, Gibbs averaged 18.0 carries, 5.7 targets, and 132 total yards per game.

Lions RB David Montgomery injured his right MCL in Sunday's loss to the Bills and will be out indefinitely. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that it's a tear and that Montgomery might be out through the playoffs. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports it as a sprain but adds that Montgomery will have further testing. Whatever the specific diagnosis and return timeline, it seems a pretty safe bet that Montgomery will miss the rest of the regular season.

Lions RBs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery didn’t score for the first time since Week 6 of 2023. The Lions opted for TE Sam LaPorta near the goal line. The stat lines were still solid with Montgomery rushing 21 times for 88 yards while also catching all three of his targets for 36 yards. Gibbs ran nine times for 87 yards and also caught two of four targets for 17 yards.

Lions RB David Montgomery (shoulder) is active for today’s game vs. the Bears. There’s some risk that his workload is scaled back — or that he aggravates the shoulder injury in-game. But Montgomery also boasts big upside against Chicago’s 25th-ranked RB defense.

Lions RB David Montgomery (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game vs. the Bears. He put in a full practice on Wednesday, though, and all indications are that he's on track to play. We'll get Detroit's inactives around 11 am ET tomorrow.

Lions RB David Montgomery (shoulder) got in a limited practice on Tuesday. HC Dan Campbell said he feels "pretty good" about Montgomery's status for Thursday's game vs. the Bears. We'll see how he's listed on the final injury report tomorrow, but Montgomery can be penciled into Week 13 fantasy lineups for now.

Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs tallied 90 yards and 2 TDs on 21 carries in Sunday's easy win over the Colts. Gibbs benefited late from RB David Montgomery's third-quarter departure for a shoulder injury. He tallied 48 yards and a TD on 9 carries after Montgomery's last touch for the day.

Lions RB David Montgomery (shoulder) said after Sunday's win over the Colts that he expects to play vs. the Bears on Thanksgiving. Montgomery never returned after injuring his shoulder midway through the third quarter, but Detroit had a comfortable lead and Montgomery remained on the sidelines with his helmet. We'll keep tabs on his status over the next few days, but fantasy owners can tentatively expect to have Montgomery available in Week 13.
