Niners RB Christian McCaffrey downplayed the significance of his calf injury late this week in an interview on Sirius XM NFL Radio. "If we had a game, I would play," he said.
What They're Saying
More from McCaffrey: "Yeah, I feel great. Very cautionary stuff. If we had a game, I would play, but just trying to be smart right now. But still training, still getting a bunch of work in, so that come Week 1, we're ready to roll."

That supports the way HC Kyle Shanahan talked about the injury previously.
We lowered our floor projection for McCaffrey -- representing his downside risk -- in the wake of the injury. But that didn't produce any meaningful change in his ranking.
McCaffrey remains a top option -- and the clear top RB -- across fantasy formats.
Injury is obviously the big risk with him. But he showed us last year how high the ceiling climbs if he stays healthy in season.
Other Winners & Losers
RB Jordan Mason looks like a winner on extra opportunity in training camp practices and -- likely -- preseason games.
He appears to have a shot at the No. 2 RB job and gets additional chances to prove himself with not only McCaffrey out, but Elijah Mitchell and rookie Isaac Geurendo also working through injuries.
Undrafted rookie Cody Schrader has also reportedly been capitalizing on extra opportunities.
