Top Fantasy QBs for Week 5

Jacksonville Jaguars at Chicago Bears

Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars

Lawrence is coming off his best performance of the season vs. the Colts. He’ll face a much stiffer test vs. Chicago, although they’ll be without stud S Jaquan Brisker. 

Caleb Williams, Bears

Williams draws the best matchup on the board, according to our adjusted strength of schedule metric. Playing the game in London adds a new wrinkle. But Williams’ current form – and the health of Chicago’s offense – supplies the rookie with QB1 appeal. 

Washington Commanders at Baltimore Ravens

Jayden Daniels, Commanders

Daniels has finished as the QB8 or better three times. With Brian Robinson banged up and Washington entering as big home underdogs, this unit figures to lean on Daniels once again. 

Lamar Jackson, Ravens

Week 5 turned up one of the best fantasy performances of Jackson’s career (38.9 fantasy points). He’s hit 20 FPs in each game thus far, while he’s already reached 12+ rush attempts three times. Next up is a Washington defense that’s fifth-worst in EPA per pass attempt.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints

Baker Mayfield, Buccaneers

Mayfield ranks third among QBs in fantasy points and has finished as a top-7 fantasy QB in four of five games to open the season. He's in a tough spot this weekend, though, on the road against a Saints team that ranks eighth in pass defense DVOA and fifth in adjusted fantasy points allowed to QBs. Tampa Bay's 22.5-point implied total is tied for 11th highest on the week.

Cleveland Browns at Philadelphia Eagles

Jalen Hurts, Eagles

Hurts has gotten off to a disappointing start. But he still ranks 10th among QBs in fantasy points per game – despite losing A.J. Brown for three of four games and DeVonta Smith for 1.25 games. Both are back to full practice this week, as is RT Lane Johnson. There’s no reason to hesitate about sticking Hurts in your lineup. And his relative recent struggles might lower his DFS usage for Week 6. The Cleveland defense has allowed Jayden Daniels and Daniel Jones to exceed 10 fantasy points within the past three weeks.

Deshaun Watson, Browns

Watson had been doing OK fantasy-wise before last week, but it’s always risky to trust the fantasy output of a guy who’s not playing well in real life. After he threw for just 125 yards against a soft Washington defense, you should be trying not to use Watson against a rested (though also soft) Philly defense. The Cleveland QB has yet to reach 200 passing yards in a game this season.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Las Vegas Raiders

Justin Fields, Steelers

ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on Thursday that Russell Wilson could be nearing a return to the starting lineup. Fields didn’t impress against Dallas, while Wilson’s health appears to be close to 100%. A matchup vs. Vegas supplies upside, but there’s uncertainty in Fields’ supporting cast. Note that George Pickens saw a season-low in route rate (65%) in Week 5.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Green Bay Packers

Kyler Murray, Cardinals

Murray’s rushing performance last week carried him to a top five fantasy finish at the position. His rushing can continue carrying his fantasy output which gives him a solid floor. The passing is coming along too making him a top ten QB option this week.

Jordan Love, Packers

Love only threw 26 passes last week his lowest total of his full games this season. If the Packers move more to the run, it is worrisome for Love’s volume. That being said, the Cardinals are a solid potential match-up in the bottom half of fantasy points allowed per attempt. Love is a top ten option this week.

Houston Texans vs. New England Patriots

CJ Stroud, Texans

Stroud has two straight 300-yard passing performances heading into this week with how poor the run game has been without Joe Mixon. Losing Nico Collins hurts, but Stroud still had a solid game last week despite that. The Patriots are a volatile defense, but without his top weapon, Stroud profiles more as a QB2 this week.

Drake Maye, Patriots

Maye makes his first NFL start against a tough Texans defense. Add in a banged-up poor Patriots OL, and it could be a disaster. His rushing ability gives him some upside despite the matchup and situation. He is a high-end QB3 who brings upside with the unknown.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Tennessee Titans

Anthony Richardson, Colts

Joe Flacco produced the best fantasy offense for the Colts this season, but Richardson is likely back. His rushing upside remains, but there could be hesitation after the injury to force him into heavy contact. Add in Michael Pittman being out, and there is downside this week, even against a tempting Titans defense. He is a QB2 with upside.

WIll Levis, Titans

Levis is healthy after suffering a shoulder injury before the Titans bye, but his leash may be short with Mason Rudolph having a decent game in Week 4. The match-up is solid though with the Colts being top five in most fantasy points to QBs. He is a QB2 this week.

Atlanta Falcons at Carolina Panthers

Kirk Cousins, Falcons

Cousins is coming off a massive 509-yard outing and has a good chance to stay hot this weekend. He gets a Panthers defense that ranks 30th in pass defense DVOA and 31st in adjusted fantasy points allowed to QBs. Carolina has allowed multiple passing TDs in four of five games this season. Atlanta's 26.5-point implied total is third highest on the week.

Andy Dalton, Panthers

Dalton is coming off a QB28 finish vs. a tough Bears defense last week. The sledding will be easier this Sunday vs. Atlanta's 15th-ranked QB defense. But Dalton should really only be in play in 2-QB and Superflex leagues. Carolina's 20.5-point implied total is 10th lowest of the week.

Detroit Lions at Dallas Cowboys

Jared Goff, Lions

Goff’s QB9 finish on just 18 pass attempts in Week 4 was truly impressive. It was also his second efficient outing in a row after a couple of less-impressive games to open the season. His fantasy upside this week figures to depend heavily on how much he needs to pass. Dallas heads toward Sunday as a home underdog and likely missing both starting edge players. Demarcus Lawrence is on IR. Micah Parsons is reportedly nearing a return but doesn’t look likely to play this week. That certainly helps a QB who doesn’t get sacked much anyway. Ultimately, Goff is a fine option – unlikely to win the week for you or lose it.

Dak Prescott, Cowboys

Prescott has finished among the top 13 fantasy QBs three straight weeks. And his QB13 score for Week 5 beat his QB11 score from the week before. He carries significant upside against a pass-funnel Detroit defense. Opponents have passed against the Lions at the league’s second-highest rate vs. expectation. Expect Dallas to add to that, especially with its limited run game.

Cincinnati Bengals at New York Giants

Joe Burrow, Bengals

Burrow has been stellar since the Week 1 clunker against the Patriots. Among QBs, only Lamar Jackson has scored more fantasy points since Week 2. And Burrow has three more TD passes than anyone else over that span. An unchallenging Giants matchup gets even friendlier with Edge Kayvon Thibodeaux out following arm surgery.

Daniel Jones, Giants

Jones was horrible against the Vikings in Week 1. Since then, he ranks 10th among QBs in fantasy points per game. There’s still downside risk, especially with WR Malik Nabers still out. But Jones just delivered his best fantasy line so far this season at Seattle and now gets a Bengals defense that’s been fourth-friendliest to QB scoring on the year.

Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets

Josh Allen, Bills

Allen has been QB1 overall twice this season. He also has been a QB3 twice. The ultimate boom or bust option. He also has a tough match-up with a Jets defense who just shut down Sam Darnold. If you have Allen, you are playing him, but he is more of a lower end QB1 this week. 

Aaron Rodgers, Jets

Rodgers gets a new play caller in Todd Downing, and it certainly can’t get worse for the Jets with Rodgers having two low end QB2 weeks in a row. The Bills pass defense is top ten against fantasy QBs, so this is unlikely to be the game Rodgers turns it around.
