Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
Cowboys RB Dalvin Cook will not play in today’s opener vs. the Browns. Not a big surprise after he joined the team less than two weeks ago. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said this morning that Cook has looked good in practice and might play in the next week or two. Pelissero also said to expect a “pretty even split” of carries between RBs Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott.
Vikings WR Jordan Addison is out for the rest of Week 1 with an ankle injury. As beat writer Ben Goessling noted on X, Addison suffered a high-ankle sprain just last month. He tallied 3 catches for 35 yards before departing.
The season couldn't have started much worse for Packers TE Luke Musgrave. He didn't get hurt, but he did play way behind TE Tucker Kraft. Musgrave played on just 25% of Green Bay's offensive snaps in the loss to Philadelphia. Kraft stayed on the field for 64 of 67 plays. Kraft also ran 30 pass routes to Musgrave's eight.
Chargers RB Kimani Vidal is a healthy scratch for today's opener vs. the Raiders. RBs Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins will operate as the top two RBs. Vidal is worth keeping stashed in deeper fantasy leagues but isn't particularly close to fantasy relevance right now.
Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett (thigh) is active for today’s game vs. the Broncos. He was a full participant in Friday’s practice and shouldn’t be limited today.
Patriots S Jabrill Peppers (hip) is active for today's game against the Bengals. He was a late addition to the injury report but appears good to go.
Texans RB Cam Akers is a healthy scratch for today's opener vs. the Colts. Dameon Pierce will open the season as the No. 2 RB, despite being handily outplayed by Akers this preseason. We'd still expect both guys to be involved if RB Joe Mixon misses time this year.
Steelers QB Russell Wilson (calf) is inactive for today’s opener vs. the Falcons. He was pushing to play, but the team will hold him out after he aggravated his calf injury in practice this week. QB Justin Fields gets the start for Pittsburgh and is a more exciting fantasy option than Wilson. But Fields dings the fantasy value of the Steelers’ skill-position players. See where they all sit in the Week 1 Rankings.
Bears Edge Montez Sweat (toe) is active for today's game against the Titans. This seemed likely after he finished the week with a full Friday practice. Go ahead and play Sweat as planned in an upside matchup.
Patriots RB Antonio Gibson (hip) is active for today’s game vs. the Bengals. He was added to the injury report on Thursday and limited again on Friday, so it’s likely that Gibson won’t be at 100% for this one. He shouldn’t be in fantasy lineups.
Bears RB Roschon Johnson is a healthy scratch for today's opener vs. the Titans. That leaves RBs D'Andre Swift, Khalil Herbert, and Travis Homer dressed for Chicago. We'll see what the workload split looks like under new OC Shane Waldron, but Swift is the only viable Week 1 fantasy play. We'd expect Johnson to work into the backfield mix if Swift or Herbert miss time this season, but he's droppable in shallow fantasy leagues.
Dolphins RB Jaylen Wright is a healthy scratch for today's opener vs. the Jaguars. It's a tad surprising, but we never expected Wright to have a significant Week 1 role behind RBs De'Von Achane and Raheem Mostert. Wright is still a strong stash on fantasy benches. Remember that Achane was a healthy scratch in last year's opener.
Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill is officially active for today’s game vs. the Jaguars. He was detained by police on his way to the stadium, reportedly for a traffic violation. We’ll see if this results in any discipline down the road, but we’re expecting Hill to play his usual role today. He remains a must-start.
The Cowboys and QB Dak Prescott agreed to a 4-year deal worth $240 million with $231 million guaranteed. Prescott passes Packers QB Jordan Love as the highest-paid player in NFL history. The contract was agreed upon shortly before the Week 1 Sunday games starting, locking Prescott in as the Cowboys starting QB for the foreseeable future.
Colts K Matt Gay (hernia) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Texans. K Spencer Shrader was elevated from the practice squad on Saturday and will replace Gay today. You should be able to do better in your Week 1 fantasy lineups.
Titans WR DeAndre Hopkins (knee) is active for today’s game vs. the Bears. He was limited in practice all week coming off his late-July knee injury and is unlikely to be at 100% today. We’d try to not use Hopkins in Week 1 fantasy lineups.
Bears WR Keenan Allen (heel) is active for today’s game vs. the Titans. He was a full-go in practice on Friday, when HC Matt Eberflus said Allen looked great. We’re not expecting the heel to be an issue today.
Bengals WR Tee Higgins (hamstring) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Patriots. He was added to the injury report on Thursday and then did not practice on Friday. We’ll see if Higgins can make it back for Week 2. We’re projecting WR Trenton Irwin – not WR Jermaine Burton – to replace most of Higgins’ outside snaps. WR Andrei Iosivas and TE Mike Gesicki could also see target boosts.
Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase is officially active for today’s game vs. the Patriots. He’s still without a contract and said Friday that he’d "probably be limited" if he played in the opener. Exactly how limited he’ll be is unclear, which makes Chase a tricky decision for fantasy owners. We’d expect him to be targeted at a high rate of the snaps he does play, especially with WR Tee Higgins out. See where Chase sits in the Week 1 WR Rankings.
Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill was detained by police on Sunday morning while entering the stadium for a driving violation, according to his agent Drew Rosenhaus. Hill is still set to play in today's game vs. the Jaguars. “I just left Tyreek and he is getting ready to play today," Rosenhaus said. We'll keep you updated on any changes to the situation. But, for now, Hill can stay in Week 1 fantasy lineups.
