Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
The Eagles started Devin White and Zack Baun as their off-ball LBs in Friday night's preseason opener against the Ravens. That's especially noteworthy because LB Nakobe Dean entered the game after them. That seems a pretty clear signal Dean isn't close to retaining his starting job from last year. White and Baun both joined Philly as free agents this offseason. Baun joined the Saints as a third-round pick back in 2020 but never found his way into the lineup. He reached a 50% snap share just three times across four seasons in New Orleans.
ESPN's Nick Wagoner believes Jordan Mason is on his way to earning the 49ers' No. 2 RB job. "He's a much improved pass catcher and route runner and he's flashed some dynamic ability picking up the blitz," Wagoner writes. "Given the injuries elsewhere at the position, Mason is setting up to really solidify a spot behind CMC."
The Patriots are releasing WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, according to NFL Network. He was entering the second season of a three-year, $25.5 million deal signed last offseason.
The Vikings expect TE T.J. Hockenson (knee) to make his 2024 debut sometime in the first half of the season, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano. Hockenson is working back from ACL and MCL tears suffered on December 24. "The estimates I heard in my reporting ranged from three to seven missed games," Graziano adds. "The latter of those would keep him out until early November, as the Vikings have a bye in Week 6.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler writes that the Chargers' "hope and expectation" remains that QB Justin Herbert (foot) will be ready for Week 1. "I would describe the Chargers' feeling on Herbert as concern but not panic," Fowler adds.
Broncos TE Greg Dulcich has had a healthy training camp so far. His speed and after-catch ability have caught the eye of OC Joe Lombardi.
Raiders HC Antonio Pierce says WR Jakobi Meyers has "really, really, really stepped up his game," according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "Since the offseason, he's been lights out."
Falcons WR Rondale Moore will miss the 2024 season after suffering a knee injury in Wednesday's practice, NFL Network reports. We don't have any details yet on the injury.
According to beat reporter Doug Kyed, Patriots QB Drake Maye had an “up and down camp overall.” Maye will make his preseason debut in tonight’s game against Carolina.
Bears RB D'Andre Swift has been a camp standout, particularly in the passing game, according to The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain.
Browns RB D'Onta Foreman was back on the field for Thursday's practice, according to insider Tony Grossi. Foreman was taken to the hospital with back and neck injuries just a week ago but has evidently been cleared to return in some capacity.
Jets WR Mike Williams (knee) has been activated from the PUP list. He spent the offseason rehabbing the ACL tear he suffered last September but is now ready to hit the practice field.
Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury says RB Austin Ekeler looks as good as ever. "I watch [Ekeler] and I'm like, 'This guy is tremendous.' So, I'm not sure what it was last year, but he hasn't lost a step." Washington, of course, signed Ekeler in free agency to join RB Brian Robinson Jr. -- while also letting RB Antonio Gibson leave for New England.
Colts WR Josh Downs suffered a high-ankle sprain in Wednesday's practice, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "The outlook right now is that Downs could miss about a month, but the Colts are sorting that out," Fowler adds.
Falcons WR Rondale Moore was carted off from practice on Wednesday. An air cast was placed on his right leg.
Steelers QB Russell Wilson (calf) will not play in Friday's preseason opener vs. the Texans, HC Mike Tomlin said. QB Justin Fields will get the start. Tomlin notably added that what happens in preseason action carries a heavier weight than training camp in the battle for the starting QB job.
Colts WR Josh Downs suffered an ankle injury in Wednesday's training camp session, HC Shane Steichen said. Downs was tackled by S Nick Cross in 7-on-7 work and had to be helped off the field, putting no weight on his injured ankle, according to ESPN's Stephen Holder.
Titans HC Brian Callahan said Wednesday that the deep connection between QB Will Levis and new WR Calvin Ridley hasn't gone great so far. "Missed too many of them early on ... it's not been a great start," Callahan said, according to beat writer Paul Kuharsky.
Seahawks OC Ryan Grubb called RB Ken Walker a "three-tool guy" and talked up his ability in the passing game.
Rams HC Sean McVay confirmed that WR Puka Nacua is week-to-week with his knee injury but isn't in danger of missing the start of the season. McVay added that Nacua has a bursa sac injury but no structural damage to the knee.
