Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
The Raiders and QB Geno Smith have agreed to a two-year, $85.5 million extension with $66.5 million guaranteed, according to multiple reports. That tacks on to the final year of Smith's current deal to keep him signed in Vegas through the 2027 season. Smith will be 37 when this contract expires.
RB Raheem Mostert is signing a one-year, $2.1 million deal with the Raiders, according to NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe. Mostert was cut by the Dolphins in February after averaging a career-low 3.3 yards per carry last season.
Seahawks QB Geno Smith was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders for a third round pick. Raiders HC Pete Carroll coached Smith in Seattle, revitalizing Smith’s NFL career.
The Raiders have announced a new deal with S Isaiah Pola-Mao. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports it's a to a two-year deal worth up to $8.45 million. That keeps Pola-Mao from becoming a restricted free agent in March.
The Dolphins will release RB Raheem Mostert, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. The move will save Miami a little over $3 million against the 2025 salary cap. Mostert averaged a career-worst 3.3 yards per carry last year and ranked 34th among 51 qualifying RBs in Pro Football Focus rushing grade. He turns 33 in April. Mostert is unlikely to be a fantasy factor in 2025 or beyond. He's cuttable from dynasty rosters.
The Raiders hired Chip Kelly as their OC under new HC Pete Carroll. Kelly spent this past year as Ohio State's OC, helping the Buckeyes to a 17th-place finish in points. Kelly was UCLA's HC the previous six seasons, finishing with a 35-34 record. That followed four years as an NFL HC: three with the Eagles and one with the 49ers. Kelly's first two Eagles teams finished top five in both points and total yards. The QBs on those teams ranged from Michael Vick to Nick Foles to Mark Sanchez. RB LeSean McCoy put up monster numbers across those two seasons: 2,926 rushing yards, 694 receiving yards, and 16 total TDs. Philadelphia sunk to 12th in yards and 13th in points in Kelly's final season, after McCoy was traded to Buffalo and Sam Bradford took over at QB. Kelly's lone season in San Francisco was QB Colin Kaepernick's final campaign and ended with a 2-14 record. But even that season produced a career-best 4.6 yards per carry from RB Carlos Hyde. We're bullish on Kelly's impact on Vegas' running game, although it remains to be seen who will be running the ball in 2025. The Raiders are also likely in the market for a new QB. They hold the sixth overall pick of this spring's draft.
Former Seahawks HC Pete Carroll will return to coaching as the new Raiders HC. Carroll signed a three-year deal with a fourth-year team option.
The Raiders fired HC Antonio Pierce. He gave Vegas a spark after taking over midway through last season, going 5-4 over the final nine games. But Pierce flamed out in 2024, winning just four games. The Raiders ranked bottom six in points and total yards, with WR Jakobi Meyers and TE Brock Bowers the only reliable fantasy assets. We'll see who the Raiders tab to replace Pierce -- and what they do at QB. They hold the sixth overall pick of this spring's draft.
The Seahawks fired OC Ryan Grubb. This one catches us by surprise. Seattle finished 14th in total yards and 18th in points in Grubb's lone season at the helm. He was one of the pass-heavier play callers in the league, with the Seahawks ranking seventh in pass attempts and eighth in yards. QB Geno Smith completed 70.4% of his passes at 7.5 yards per attempt, and WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba broke out for a 100-1,130-6 receiving line. We'll see who defensive-minded HC Mike Macdonald tabs as his next OC.
Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers caught 5 of 9 targets for 61 yards and 1 score in Sunday's win over New Orleans. Meyers has now hit 55+ yards in five of his past six outings.
Commanders S Jeremy Chinn is active for today's game against the Eagles. I boosted his playing-time projection, which has moved him up the Week 16 DB rankings.
Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell (knee) put in a full week of practice and is off the final injury report for Sunday’s game vs. the Jaguars. He’s just a low-end QB2 in fantasy lineups, but O’Connell’s return is good news for WR Jakobi Meyers and TE Brock Bowers.
Seahawks QB Geno Smith (knee) put in a full week of practice and is not listed on the final injury report. He’ll start Sunday’s game vs. the Vikings, and it doesn’t look like the knee will be a major factor. Smith still sits well outside QB1 territory in the Week 16 Rankings. He's finished outside the top 18 QBs in fantasy points in five straight.
Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. That puts him on track to return for this weekend's game vs. the Jaguars. Considering QB Desmond Ridder's performance on Monday night (59% completion rate and 5.3 yards per attempt), this is good news for TE Brock Bowers and WR Jakobi Meyers.
Seahawks QB Geno Smith (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. He's clearly on track to start this weekend's game vs. the Vikings -- and it looks like he'll be closer to 100% than we thought. Smith still isn't a recommended QB1 play (he's finished outside the top 18 QBs in fantasy points in five straight), but his availability is good news for Seattle's skill-position players.
The Raiders placed RB Sincere McCormick on IR with the ankle injury he suffered in Monday night's loss to the Falcons. That ends his 2024 season. McCormick flashed with 4.7 yards per carry over the last four weeks, which should earn him an opportunity to win a role in this backfield this offseason. He's a low-end dynasty stash. McCormick's absence leaves Vegas' backfield to Alexander Mattison and Ameer Abdullah the rest of the way. Mattison is a volume-based RB3 option.
Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald said Monday that he's "optimistic" QB Geno Smith (knee) will be able to practice this week and play against the Vikings on Sunday. "We’re fortunate," Macdonald said. "A lot of positive, optimistic signs coming out of the test. Geno’s a beast, man — he’s in here, working out in the morning, working through it. I know he’s still feeling it, but this guy’s tough as nails." We'll track Smith's status throughout the week. QB Sam Howell would be a tangible downgrade for the passing game if forced to start.
Raiders RB Sincere McCormick left Monday’s game vs. Atlanta with a left ankle injury. McCormick might have suffered a high-ankle sprain in the second quarter, but we should know more over the next 24 hours.
Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell (knee) is inactive as the emergency third QB for tonight's game vs. the Falcons. QB Desmond Ridder makes his first start of the season against the team that selected him in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald said after Sunday night's loss to the Packers that QB Geno Smith's right knee is "structurally" ok. "(It was) severe enough for him not to come back in the game," Macdonald added. "We'll do all the tests tomorrow and kind of figure it out as we go. ... I know we'll do everything humanely possible to go play, but just don't know right now." We should get another update by the end of today, but it sounds more likely than not that Smith misses time. That'd leave Sam Howell under center. He struggled badly in relief of Smith against Green Bay, completing just 5 of 14 passes for 24 yards and an INT. Howell was a mixed bag as Washington's starter last year, throwing for 3,946 yards and 21 TDs but also tossing 21 INTs and taking 65 sacks. He's a clear downgrade from Smith -- but better than most backups in the league.
