Seahawks QB Geno Smith was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders for a third round pick. Raiders HC Pete Carroll coached Smith in Seattle, revitalizing Smith’s NFL career.
Adam Schefter of ESPN: “Geno Smith is being traded to Las Vegas Raiders for a third round pick, per sources.”
Albert Breer of MMQB: "The Seahawks opened trade discussions with the Raiders with this blockbuster proposal—Geno Smith and DK Metcalf to Vegas for Maxx Crosby. Vegas QUICKLY shot that down, and told Seattle that Crosby was not available."
Smith had his worst year with the Seahawks this past season and will go back to the offense that made him a Pro Bowler.
In 2024, Smith had 266 fantasy points. His first year as a starter in 2022 with Carroll as HC, Smith had 303.9.
New Raiders OC Chip Kelly will likely bring a new flavor of offense, but he is known for putting his QBs in position to throw downfield alongside a strong running game.
TE Brock Bowers and WR Jakobi Meyers provide a couple of strong targets, but the Raiders need to add talent around them to make this a true upside spot for Smith.
We'll see whether the Raiders extend Smith. If they don't, Vegas might still be a candidate to draft one.
The Seahawks, meanwhile, have been linked to free agent Sam Darnold. If they don't land him, they'll obviously need to find a new starter otherwise.
