Zay Jones Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Jaguars WR Zay Jones injured his left hamstring in the fourth quarter of Sunday night's game vs. the Ravens. He's been playing through a right knee injury. Jones is officially questionable to return to this one, but we doubt we see him again. We'll track his status this coming week.

The Jaguars are "planning" for QB Trevor Lawrence to start today's game vs. the Browns, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Lawrence's ankle will be evaluated in pregame warmups before a final decision is made. He's just six days removed from a high-ankle sprain but got in two limited practices to close the week and is "feeling better than expected," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. It's still tough to imagine that Lawrence will have much mobility inside or out of the pocket. Throw in the matchup against Cleveland's sixth-ranked QB defense, and Lawrence is not a recommended starter in 1-QB fantasy leagues. His availability is good news for Jacksonville's skill-position players, though.

Jaguars HC Doug Pederson said Friday morning that QB Trevor Lawrence (ankle) will be listed as questionable and "probably" be a game-time decision for Sunday's tilt with the Browns. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that Lawrence looked good throwing on Thursday and that "no one is counting him out" for this weekend's game. We'll continue to keep you updated on the situation. A gimpy Lawrence vs. a tough Cleveland defense in a game with potentially bad weather wouldn't be a recommended QB1 play. But his presence would be good news for Jacksonville's skill-position players.

Update: Lawrence was limited again in Friday's practice and is officially listed as questionable.

Multiple reports say Jaguars WR Christian Kirk is expected to need surgery for a core-muscle injury he suffered on the first play of Monday night's loss to the Bengals. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says "rehab for a core muscle issue is generally about eight weeks." The fantasy season, of course, has just four (in most leagues) or five weeks left. Kirk hasn't finalized the surgery plan yet and is still getting medical opinions. So you might want to wait for confirmation before dropping him. But plan on missing the Jacksonville wideout for the rest of the year. Zay Jones gets a boost in Kirk's absence, but he must also contend with QB Trevor Lawrence's injury and a challenging matchup with the Browns and Ravens the next two games. His Week 17 matchup with Carolina has also been bad for WR scoring this season. Week 16 at Tampa Bay looks good, at least. Jones currently sits just 52nd in our Week 14 PPR WR rankings. He's not likely to climb a lot higher even if Lawrence gets cleared. And he's not likely to climb beyond WR4 territory (if that high) in our Week 15 rankings. Keep all that in mind as you decide whether to go after Jones on the waiver wire this week. Rookie WR Parker Washington also came out of nowhere for a 6-61-1 receiving line against the Bengals after Kirk's injury. He might remain relevant for PPR leagues while Kirk is out, but we'd like to see at least one more game before trusting him in redraft lineups outside of deep leagues.

Jaguars HC Doug Pederson said Tuesday that WR Christian Kirk will miss time with the groin injury he suffered in Monday night's loss to the Bengals. We'll look for a more concrete timetable for Kirk's return, but we can at least rule him out for this weekend's game vs. the Browns. Rookie WR Parker Washington replaced Kirk vs. Cincinnati, catching all six of his targets for 61 yards and a score. But he's not a viable fantasy play assuming it's QB C.J. Beathard at the helm this weekend. WR Calvin Ridley, WR Zay Jones, and TE Evan Engram should pick up extra targets with Kirk out.

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence has a sprained right ankle and will undergo additional testing on Tuesday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Lawrence was in a walking boot after the loss to the Bengals but was able to stand at his locker, per NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe. We should get an update on Lawrence's injury and timeline for return later today. QB C.J. Beathard played pretty well in relief of Lawrence on Monday, completing nine of 10 passes for 63 yards. Still, Lawrence's absence would be a significant downgrade for all of Jacksonville's skill-position players.

Jaguars WR Zay Jones (knee) is active for today’s game vs. the Texans. He returned from the knee injury to play last week but remained limited in practice all this week. Jones likely still isn’t at 100% and is no better than a WR4 in fantasy lineups.

Jaguars WR Zay Jones (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Texans. He returned from the knee injury to play last week and should be available this weekend. But it’s clear that Jones still isn’t at 100%. He’d be a shaky Week 12 fantasy play.

Jaguars WR Zay Jones (knee) is active for today’s game against the Titans. He remained limited in practice all week and would be a risky fantasy play in his first action since Week 5.

Jaguars WR Zay Jones (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game agains the Titans after a limited week of practice. It looks like Jones has a shot to return for this one, but we’d try not to use him in fantasy lineups in his first action since early October.

Jaguars WR Zay Jones (knee) remained limited in Wednesday's practice. He got in three limited practices last week before missing the 49ers game. Jones, of course, is also facing misdemeanor domestic battery charges, although that situation is unlikely to prevent him from playing this weekend. We'll see about the knee.

Jaguars WR Zay Jones was arrested Monday on misdemeanor domestic battery charges. Jones has been released from jail and is scheduled for arraignment on Dec. 6. We're likely a long way from finding out whether this incident will produce any suspension for the WR, but misdemeanors haven't generally tended to do so with NFL players. This case isn't likely to impact Jones' availability the rest of this season. He's still dealing with a knee injury, though, that's kept him out since Week 5.

Jaguars WR Zay Jones (knee) is out for Sunday’s game vs. the 49ers. He got in three limited practices this week, so Jones should have a shot to return for Week 11. But WR Christian Kirk, WR Calvin Ridley, and TE Evan Engram should continue to dominate targets this weekend.

Jaguars WR Zay Jones (knee) got in a limited practice on Wednesday. It's a pleasant surprise after HC Doug Pederson did not rule out the possibility of Jones landing on IR earlier this week. Fantasy owners still can't be banking on Jones playing vs. the 49ers this weekend, but we'll monitor his status over the next few days.

When asked about Jaguars WR Zay Jones (knee) on Monday, HC Doug Pederson said that the wideout "is getting better and is day-to-day" but would not rule out possibly sending him to IR if the injury continues to hold him back. Jones has been effective at times (17% target share, 2 TDs in three games played), though he hasn't been active for a game since Week 3 vs. the Colts. Landing on IR ahead of Sunday's game against the 49ers would knock Jones out until at least Week 14. There's not much to do with the veteran WR in fantasy until we know more.

Jaguars WR Zay Jones (knee) remained sidelined in practice all week and is out for Sunday’s game vs. the Steelers. WR Christian Kirk, WR Calvin Ridley, and TE Evan Engram should again be Jacksonville’s top three targets in that one.
