Bottom Line

We’re not overthinking this one.

Hill’s finished as the overall WR2 in back-to-back seasons. He was on pace for a historic season before a Week 14 ankle injury.

Now healthy, the third-year Dolphin shouldn't last beyond mid-Round 1 of summer drafts.

What We Learned Last Year

  • In year eight, Hill posted his most productive season.
    • In 16 games, the former Chief ranked second league-wide in targets and catches.
    • Hill led all WRs in targets per route run.
    • He slotted first in receiving yards and TDs.
    • In fact, he set a career-high in receiving yards (1,799) – seventh most in NFL history.
    • He matched a career-high in targets (167). Only CeeDee Lamb saw more targets inside the ten yard-line.
  • Hill was remarkably consistent.
    • He finished as a top-five fantasy WR nine times.
    • His worst finish: WR38
  • Hill missed one game with a Week 14 ankle sprain. He played through it upon returning.
  • A healthy Tua Tagovailoa helped Hill hit his ceiling.
    • Tua played all 17 games.
    • The duo clicked on deep balls. Hill caught an excellent 57.9% of his deep targets – and that includes 3 drops.

What to Expect in 2024

  • Hill enters the fall at 30 years old.
    • Our research with WR aging curves doesn’t turn up any cause for concern.
    • Note: Among RBs/WRs, Hill recorded the third fasted on-field time last year – 22.02 MPH. In fact, he held three spots in the top ten, per Next Gen Stats.
  • He returns as the clear WR1 ahead of Jaylen Waddle and a host of secondary targets.
    • Miami added Odell Beckham in free agency. At this stage of his career, he’s no more than a decent third option.
    • The Fins added two late-round WRs – Malik Washington and Tahj Washington.
  • The Fins return Tagovailoa and HC Mike McDaniel. Hill and that duo now enter a third year together.
  • That continuity is huge for a guy who leads all WRs in cumulative fantasy points over the past two seasons.

Tyreek Hill, WR MIA

Tyreek Hill Playing Through Torn Ligament In Wrist

Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill told ESPN's Lisa Salters that he's been playing through a torn ligament in his wrist. It's been an issue since training camp, Hill said, but worsened when he was detained by police the morning of Week 1. Hill was a game-time decision for Week 10 but wound up playing a normal 87% of Miami's offensive snaps. He finished with just three catches on four targets for 16 yards and a score, but it's tough to know how big a factor the wrist was. Hill remains a must-start in fantasy lineups for now. We'll continue to keep an eye on the wrist and his role in Miami's offense.

There's a "real possibility" that Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is back for the Week 8 game against the Cardinals, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. That's when he's first eligible to come off IR after his latest concussion. Tagovailoa is reportedly symptom-free and has no plans to retire. RB De'Von Achane, WR Tyreek Hill, and WR Jaylen Waddle need Tua back to save their seasons. There's still no guarantee that Tagovailoa makes it back (or stays on the field if he does), but it's not a bad idea to make buy-low offers for Miami's skill guys right now.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa has been placed on Injured Reserve after the concussion that he suffered on Thursday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills. Tagovailoa will miss at least the next four games and may miss more.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagaovailoa will meet with neurologists this week after sustaining another concussion in Thursday night's loss to the Bills, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. "Tagovailoa will be seeking their input into the severity of his latest concussion and the cumulative effect of the ones he has suffered in the past to make the most informed decision about his future," Schefter writes. Tagovailoa contemplated retiring after suffering multiple concussions in 2022, so we have to believe that's on his mind now. At a minimum, he's likely looking at a multi-game absence. The Dolphins will turn to QB Skylar Thompson at least for Week 3. We'll see what they add to the position. Free-agent QB Ryan Tannehill seems like the easiest short-term fix.

Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel didn't even want to talk about a potential timetable for return for QB Tua Tagovailoa after his latest concussion. "The furthest thing from my mind is what is the timeline," McDaniel said after the loss to the Bills. "We just need to evaluate and just worry about my teammate, like the rest of the guys are. We will get more information tomorrow and take it day by day from there." Tagovailoa was able to walk off the field under his own power, has movement in all extremities, and was "in good spirits" afterward, McDaniel said.
