Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms that Titans RB Tony Pollard (foot) is expected to play vs. the Patriots today. Schefter's colleague, Jeremy Fowler, said on Saturday that RB Julius Chestnut is expected to get more run today with Pollard battling this foot issue. We suspect that Chestnut's usage will ultimately depend on how Pollard is feeling during the game. Consider Pollard a risk/reward RB2 in Week 9 fantasy lineups. Chestnut would be a total desperation play.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler writes that the Titans are "hopeful" RB Tony Pollard (foot) can play vs. the Patriots on Sunday. Fowler adds that RB Julius Chestnut "will get an extended look" even if Pollard plays. It makes sense that the Titans would want to lighten Pollard's load considering he didn't practice all week with this foot injury. We'd still expect him to lead this backfield if he ends up active tomorrow, but consider him more of a low-end RB2. Chestnut won't be a viable fantasy play unless Pollard is inactive.
Titans QB Mason Rudolph is expected to start Sunday's game vs. the Patriots, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "Will Levis had a good week of practice, but his shoulder is not quite ready," Rapoport adds. Rudolph shouldn't be in Week 9 fantasy lineups but at least helped WR Calvin Ridley to a big Week 8. Consider Rudolph a slight upgrade for Ridley's Week 9 fantasy stock.
Titans QB Will Levis (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Patriots after a limited week of practice. "He can see the strength and the stamina come back a bit, so that was good," HC Brian Callahan said. "We'll see by the time we get to game day. He's better this week than he was last week, which is all we were hoping to see. So, we'll keep progressing. … He's in the same boat as the rest of them. We'll see how he feels after some work tomorrow morning.” QB Mason Rudolph will get the start if Levis is unable to play on Sunday. Continue to avoid Titans QBs in fantasy lineups.
Titans RB Tony Pollard (foot) did not practice all week and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Patriots. We haven’t seen any other updates on his status. RB Tyjae Spears (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 9. He practiced on Wednesday before being sidelined the next two days, so it looks like he suffered a setback. If Pollard can’t play this weekend, Tennessee would be down to RB Julius Chestnut and practice squaders Joshua Kelley and Jabari Small.
Titans WR Calvin Ridley (shoulder) is not listed on the final Week 9 injury report. He got in a full practice on Thursday sandwiched by DNPs on Wednesday and Friday. But he’s evidently in no danger of missing this weekend’s game against the Patriots. WR Tyler Boyd (shoulder) did not practice all week and is listed as questionable.
Titans RBs Tony Pollard (foot) and Tyjae Spears (hamstring) did not practice on Thursday. It's Pollard's second straight missed practice, while Spears was a limited participant on Wednesday. We'll see how these guys are listed on Friday's final injury report, RB Julius Chestnut is the next man up for Tennessee.
Titans RB Tyjae Spears (hamstring) was limited in Wednesday's practice but is on track to return for this weekend's game vs. the Patriots, according to HC Brian Callahan. “Should be good to go this week," Callahan said of Spears. "Again, we’ll see, we’ll take it day to day on what he feels like after some practices, but expect him to have a good chance to play.” Spears would be a desperation Week 9 fantasy play but figures to take some touches from RB Tony Pollard.
Titans RB Tony Pollard (foot) did not practice on Wednesday. It's a new injury for Pollard, but we've heard nothing to suggest that he's in danger of missing this weekend's game vs. the Patriots. We'll see if he gets back on the practice field tomorrow.
Titans RB Tony Pollard had a solid day on the ground rushing 20 times for 94 yards while addding three receptions on four targets for 23 yards. He was effective, but the Titans got down early and had to rely on the pass more than usual.
LB Jerome Baker is a healthy scratch for his first game since the trade to the Titans. He did land on the injury report as questionable but was listed as "not injury related -- rest." (To be fair, it's a long flight from Seattle to Nashville.) That likely means Jack Gibbens starting next to Kenneth Murray, but it's tough to know how much playing time we can expect. After working as a starter for part of last season and playing 54% of snaps in this year's opener, Gibbens totaled just 17 snaps over the past five games before the Ernest Jones trade. I wouldn't recommend using Gibbens in fantasy lineups, but there's some tackle upside for deep formats.
Titans QB Will Levis (shoulder) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Lions. He was limited in practice all week and seemingly has a shot to be back for Week 9. QB Mason Rudolph gets another start today but shouldn’t be in any fantasy lineups.
Titans RB Tyjae Spears (hamstring) has been downgraded to out for Sunday's game vs. the Lions. He put in three limited practices this week and should have a good chance to play Week 9. His absence again leaves the backfield to RB Tony Pollard, who handled 16 of 19 RB carries and six targets last week. He's a volume-based RB2 play in a brutal matchup against Detroit's second-ranked RB defense.
Titans RB Tyjae Spears (hamstring) is listed as questionable for this weekend's game vs. the Lions. He put in three limited practices this week, which seemingly gives him a good chance to return for this one. Spears isn't a Week 8 fantasy option, but his return would put a dent in RB Tony Pollard's volume projection.
Titans QB Will Levis (shoulder) was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Lions. QB Mason Rudolph is expected to start that one, but we’ll see if Levis changes that plan. Either way, you should be avoiding the situation in Week 8 fantasy lineups.
Titans WR Calvin Ridley (foot) is not listed on the final Week 8 injury report. He didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday but was a full participant on Friday. It all suggests that the foot won’t be an issue in this weekend’s game vs. the Lions. Ridley is a risk/reward fantasy play in a struggling Tennessee offense but with WR DeAndre Hopkins out of the picture.
Titans WR Calvin Ridley (foot) remained sidelined for Thursday's practice. We still don't have any details on this foot injury, but Ridley's availability for this weekend's game vs. the Lions is up in the air. His absence would leave Tennessee without its top two WRs at the start of the season, after WR DeAndre Hopkins was traded to Kansas City earlier this week. The rest of the WR corps: Tyler Boyd, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and Jha'Quan Jackson.
Titans RB Tyjae Spears (hamstring) returned to a limited practice on Wednesday. That gives him a shot to play vs. the Lions this weekend, although HC Brian Callahan was non-commital on Spears' availability for that one when asked on Wednesday. We'll see how Spears progresses over the next few days. He won't be much of a Week 8 fantasy option but would ding RB Tony Pollard's value.
Titans WR Calvin Ridley missed Wednesday's practice with a foot injury. We don't have any other details on the issue right now. We'll see if Ridley gets back on the field on Thursday. He has a good chance to soak up a ton of volume going forward with WR DeAndre Hopkins off to Kansas City.
Titans QB Will Levis (shoulder) is a "long shot" to play vs. the Lions on Sunday, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "Week 9 return more likely," Fowler adds. QB Mason Rudolph will make his second straight start this weekend -- this time without WR DeAndre Hopkins. Rudolph sits dead last in our Week 8 QB Rankings.
