San Francisco 49ers Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Niners RB Christian McCaffrey managed just 46 yards on his 15 carries (3.1 per rush) in Saturday's win over the Commanders. He added just 2 receptions for 12 yards. That matched McCaffrey's low for receptions on the season, and his 2 targets set a new season low. RB Tyrion Davis-Price jumped in for 9 carries and 30 yards as the only other RB to see any touches. McCaffrey and the 49ers get a high-upside matchup with the Raiders in Week 17.

Niners TE George Kittle tallied 6 catches for 120 yards and 2 TDs in Saturday's win over the Commanders. Kittle led his team in all 3 categories. It marked his 2nd straight 2-TD game. WR Brandon Aiyuk followed with 5 catches for 81 yards on 7 targets. WR Jauan Jennings (2) and RB Christian McCaffrey (2) were the only other 49ers to catch passes. San Francisco gets an upside matchup with the Raiders in Week 17.

3:30pm EST 12/24/22

Niners CB Charvarius Ward (concussion) is active for today's game against the Commanders. Use him in IDP lineups if you'd planned to.

2:43pm EST 12/24/22

49ers Jordan Mason (hamstring) is active for today’s game vs. the Commanders. He should be available for his usual bit role behind RB Christian McCaffrey.

Niners CB Charvarius Ward (concussion) is questionable for Saturday's game against the Commanders. We'll check his status that afternoon.

49ers Jordan Mason (hamstring) was a surprise addition to the team's injury report on Thursday. The rookie logged a limited practice and is now listed as questionable for Saturday's Week 16 game vs. the Commanders. Though he doesn't rank particularly high against a brutally tough Commanders' run defense, Mason has tallied 50+ rushing yards in 3 consecutive games. This injury may mean more down the line than it does now. Something to keep in mind.

49ers WR Deebo Samuel (ankle, knee) has been ruled out for Week 16's game vs. the Commanders. Samuel wasn't expected to play on Saturday to begin with. Nothing really out of the ordinary here. Check back next week for his availability in Week 17.

49ers WR Deebo Samuel (ankle, knee) did not practice for the 2nd straight day on Wednesday. This is unsurprising given that HC Kyle Shanahan said in so many words he wasn't expecting Samuel to suit up anyway. There is a better chance for Samuel to play in Week 17. We'll keep an eye on this just in case something changes, but plan to be without Samuel on Saturday vs. the Commanders.

49ers WR Deebo Samuel (ankle, knee) did not practice on Tuesday. Samuel has not played since getting hurt vs. the Buccaneers in Week 14. "I think this week, there would be a chance if we were that desperate," said HC Kyle Shanahan. "But I'm not even looking into it this week, and we'll see how he is next Monday and make that decision." This sounds like Samuel is likely a better bet to suit up in Week 17 vs. the Raiders. Don’t plan on having the WR available for your lineup.

7:19pm EST 12/15/22

49ers QB Brock Purdy (oblique, ribs) is active for tonight's game vs. the Seahawks. He was limited in practice all week and listed as questionable, but we never sensed much concern about his availability for this one. Purdy has played well the past 2 weeks but is still only a viable option in 2-QB and Superflex leagues.

49ers QB Brock Purdy (oblique, ribs) is expected to suit up tonight vs. Seattle, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Purdy practiced this week, so the news isn’t surprising. He remains a QB2 in a matchup that should turn up plenty of rushing.

49ers QB Brock Purdy (oblique, rib) is listed as questionable for Thursday night's game vs. the Seahawks. He was listed as a limited participant in practice all week. We're expecting Purdy to play tomorrow night. If he can't, the 'Niners will turn to veteran QB Josh Johnson.

49ers WR Deebo Samuel (ankle, knee) is out for Thursday night's game vs. the Seahawks. It sounds like he'll be back in either Week 17 or 18. Samuel's absence elevates Jauan Jennings to the #2 WR role and frees up targets for RB Christian McCaffrey, WR Brandon Aiyuk and TE George Kittle.

49ers QB Brock Purdy (oblique) was listed as a limited participant in what was a light practice on Tuesday. HC Kyle Shanahan wouldn't say for sure whether Purdy will start Thursday night's game vs. the Seahawks but did say that the oblique injury is more of a pain-tolerance issue. Purdy told the media that he's able to run but hasn't tried to throw since Sunday. We'll get another update on his status tomorrow. QB Josh Johnson would start against Seattle if Purdy can't.

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday that he's been told WR Deebo Samuel (knee, ankle) is expected to be out "three-ish" weeks. Missing 3 weeks would put Samuel back for Week 18. The Score's Jordan Schultz reportedly on Monday that Samuel has a chance to return for Week 17. That seems to be the range we're looking at for Samuel's return, which means he might be back for the championship game for most fantasy leagues.

The Score's Jordan Schultz hears that 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (knee, ankle) "could return as soon as Week 17." That makes Samuel worth hanging on to in plenty of fantasy leagues, although we wouldn't consider him a must stash. Samuel would carry elevated risk in fantasy lineups if he does make it back for what's the championship game in most leagues.

49ers WR Deebo Samuel suffered an MCL sprain and an ankle sprain in Sunday's win over the Bucs, the team announced on Monday. Samuel is expected to return at some point in the regular season, but we'd prepare for him to miss multiple games. We'll hopefully get a more concrete timeline for Samuel's return before you need to decide whether to release him from fantasy rosters. Jauan Jennings will take over as San Francisco's #2 WR with Samuel out but is unlikely to be a reliable fantasy play at this point in the season. RB Christian McCaffrey, WR Brandon Aiyuk and TE George Kittle are all candidates to pick up extra targets with Samuel out.

Niners RB Christian McCaffrey ran for 119 yards and a TD on 14 carries in Sunday's lopsided win over the Buccaneers. He added 2 catches for 34 yards and another TD on just 3 targets. Jordan Mason operated as the #2 RB one again, carrying 11 times for 56 yards. San Francisco gets Seattle's soft run defense on Thursday night in Week 15.

Niners QB Brock Purdy threw for 185 yards and 2 TDs in Sunday's beatdown of the Buccaneers. He found WR Brandon Aiyuk and RB Christian McCaffrey for scores, each from 27+ yards out. Purdy added a 2-yard scramble for a TD as well. We wouldn't go chasing Purdy on waivers this week, but it looks like he at least won't kill the fantasy upside for San Francisco pass-catchers in upcoming meetings with the Seahawks, Commanders and Raiders.

49ers WR Deebo Samuel "most likely" has a high-ankle sprain, HC Kyle Shanahan said after Sunday's win over the Bucs. X-rays on Samuel's ankle came back clean, but a high-ankle sprain could cost him the rest of the fantasy season. We should learn more about Samuel's status on Monday.
