Los Angeles Chargers Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

6:53pm EDT 10/9/22

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst (groin) is active for tonight's game vs. the Ravens. He went from limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday to no practice on Friday, so he figures to be operating at less than 100% tonight.

11:40am EDT 10/9/22

Chargers WR Joshua Palmer (ankle) is active for today’s game against the Browns. He was limited in practice all week after seeing his snaps scaled back in last Sunday’s win over the Texans. That leaves Palmer as a risky Week 5 fantasy play.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst (groin) is expected to play vs. the Ravens tonight, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Hurst went from limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday to no practice on Friday, so he seemingly won't be operating at 100% tonight.

Chargers WR Joshua Palmer (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns. He managed limited practices all week. We'll check his status Sunday morning. If Palmer's good to go, then Keenan Allen's continued absence -- he'll miss a 3rd straight game with his hamstring injury -- leaves room for plenty of upside. If Palmer can't go or is limited, then DeAndre Carter will be worth a look in deep leagues and DFS formats.

Lions WRs D.J. Chark (ankle) and Quintez Cephus (foot) are out for Sunday's game vs. the Patriots. WR Josh Reynolds (ankle) is listed as questionable after getting in limited practices on Thursday and Friday. We'll see if he's available come 11:30 am ET on Sunday.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst (groin) is questionable for Sunday night's game vs. the Ravens. He went from limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday to no practice on Friday. HC Zay Taylor "sounded optimistic" Friday that Hurst will play, per The Athletic's Jay Morrison. But we'd try to stay away from him in fantasy lineups at less than 100%.

Lions WRs D.J. Chark (ankle) and Josh Reynolds (ankle) returned to limited practices on Thursday. Both guys are now trending toward being available for this weekend's game vs. the Patriots. WR Quintez Cephus remained sidelined and looks unlikely to play in that one. Check back tomorrow afternoon for another update on Detroit's Week 5 WR situation.

Ravens RB Gus Edwards (knee) is set to resume practicing, HC John Harbaugh said Monday. Edwards is eligible to be activated from the PUP list at any time now. Don't expect him to play vs. the Bengals on Sunday night, but he's trending toward returning at some point in October. There's a path for Edwards to reclaim the #2 RB job in Baltimore, so he's worth stashing in fantasy leagues of 12+ teams.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert threw for 340 yards and 2 TDs in Sunday's win over the Texans. He hit Austin Ekeler and Gerald Everett for scores. Herbert's practice participation leading up to the game told us his ribs were in better shape than the week before. WR Keenan Allen is also nearing his return. Week 5 presents another fine matchup at Cleveland.

Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins led Sunday's backfield in the loss to Buffalo, collecting 13 carries and 4 targets. Dobbins delivered both of the team's TDs, running 1 in from 4 yards out and catching Lamar Jackson's lone TD pass from 1 yard out. Dobbins averaged just 3.2 yards across his 13 rushes, though, and 5.5 yards on his 4 receptions. Nearly all of his 22 receiving yards came on a single 20-yard reception. Justice Hill handled another 8 carries and 2 targets but left early with a hamstring injury. We'll see about Hill's status for Week 5, as well as whether Gus Edwards is ready to come off the PUP list.

Raiders LB Denzel Perryman left Sunday's win over the Broncos early with a concussion. He had just returned from the ankle sprain that knocked him out of Week 1 early. We'll see how Perryman progresses through the league protocol. Divine Deablo worked as the corps leader with Perryman out before. Jayon Brown got playing time in the 70-80% range.

The Lions have downgraded WR D.J. Shark (ankle) to OUT for Sunday's game against the Seahawks. That leaves QB Jared Goff without his top 2 wideouts, as Amon-Ra St. Brown had already been ruled out. The team elevated WRs Tom Kennedy and Maurice Alexander from the practice squad. Kalif Raymond and Quintez Cephus should join Josh Reynolds in the starting lineup.

Lions WRs D.J. Chark (ankle) and Josh Reynolds (ankle) are questionable for this weekend's game vs. the Seahawks. Both guys got in 2 limited practices this week -- Chark on Wednesday and Friday; Reynolds on Thursday and Friday. We're expecting them both to play on Sunday and operate as Detroit's top 2 WRs with Amon-Ra St. Brown out. But check back around 11:30 am to make sure they're active.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert (ribs) was a full participant in Thursday's practice for the 1st time since suffering that injury in Week 2. It's a sign that he'll at least be closer to 100% for this weekend's game vs. the Texans.

Lions WR D.J. Chark (ankle) went from a limited practice on Wednesday to no practice on Thursday. That puts his availability for this weekend's game vs. the Seahawks in question. WR Josh Reynolds (ankle) is also banged up, missing practice on Wednesday but returning to a limited workout on Thursday. We'll update the situation tomorrow.

Raiders LB Denzel Perryman put in a limited practice Wednesday, the 1st time he has been on the field since leaving the opener with an ankle injury. We'll see just what the LB roles look like if Perryman's ready for game action. Divine Deablo has led the group in snaps the past 3 weeks. Pro Football Focus grades him just 68th, however, among 86 LBs with 45+ snaps played so far. LB Jason Brown checks in 70th, trailing Deablo as the #2 in playing time. Perryman was the every-down LB for last year's Raiders but has an uneven history of use across 3 franchises.

Bengals TE Hayden Hurst (groin) is not listed on the final injury report for Thursday night's game vs. Miami after putting in full practices on Tuesday and Wednesday. He was limited to a 51% route rate last week, but it looks like he's healthier heading into this one. Hurst has a plus matchup against the league's 32nd-ranked TE defense.

Chargers EDGE Joey Bosa is having surgery to address a core-muscle injury. The team placed him on IR Wednesday, which means he'll miss at least the next 4 games. We'll see about the expected timeline for his return. Kyle Van Noy and Chris Rumph played elevated edge snaps after Bosa left Sunday's game early

Chargers HC Brandon Staley said Monday that EDGE Joey Bosa is "week to week" after suffering a significant groin injury, according to multiple reports. That explanation makes it appear the team expects Bosa to miss at least 1 game. We'll see beyond that.

Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins made his season debut in Sunday's win over the Patriots, totaling 40 yards on 9 touches. Dobbins trailed only QB Lamar Jackson in rushing attempts (7), gaining 23 yards. He added 17 via 2 receptions on his only 2 targets. Dobbins' playing time proved near-identical to Justice Hill's in all phases. We'd bet on that shifting more toward Dobbins as he moves further from the knee recovery. But Baltimore also figures to get RB Gus Edwards back on the field fairly soon. So don't be surprised if Dobbins spends the year sharing more work than you'd like him to. RB Kenyan Drake was a healthy scratch for Week 3. RB Mike Davis played 1 snap.
