Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
The Titans selected UCLA WR Kyle Philips in Round 5 of the 2022 NFL Draft. Philips led the Bruins in catches in each of the past 3 seasons, finishing 4th in school history with 163 career grabs. The 5’11, 189-pounder played almost exclusively in the slot. He’s shifty and explosive in tight quarters, but he has a small catch radius and isn’t going to offer much downfield. Phillips looks like a low-upside fantasy prospect – and this is a low-upside landing spot.
The Raiders chose Georgia RB Zamir White in Round 4 of the NFL Draft. White hit Georgia as a heralded prospect. An ACL tear in the summer before his true freshman campaign slowed his progress, though – and came shortly after a tear to his other ACL that ended his final high school season. White wound up leading the Georgia backfield in carries the past 2 years, averaging 5.4 yards per rush each year. But he watched teammates claim most of the receiving work and beat him in rushing efficiency. White’s 4.4-second 40 at the Combine points to rushing upside, but we see a limited fantasy ceiling here. He’ll struggle to unseat RB Josh Jacobs this year, although Jacobs is currently set to hit free agency next offseason.
The Falcons selected QB Desmond Ridder in Round 3 of the NFL Draft. At 6’3, 211 pounds, Ridder’s on the thin side for the QB position. But his lack of special arm talent and inconsistent accuracy likely led to his slide. Still, he enters the pros with 49 career starts and the 3rd most QB wins in FBS history (43). The 22-year-old adds plus mobility, pocket poise and high character. He has a chance to make some 2022 starts, but Marcus Mariota will enter the summer as the clear favorite. Longer term, you have to like Atlanta's current 1-2 punch of Kyle Pitts and Drake London.
Per Ian Rapoport, the Seahawks have re-signed QB Geno Smith to a 1-year deal worth $7 million. It’s a nice sum for Smith, who Rapoport says has “a chance to push for starter reps and more" this summer. Of course, Seattle added Drew Lock last month, and there’s no question that they could spend an early pick on a rookie passer. The Seahawks hold 8 picks, with 3 in the top-41.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Dolphins are expected to sign RB Raheem Mostert. The veteran RB, of course, played under new Miami HC Mike McDaniel in San Francisco, where McDaniel spent 2021 as OC after 4 seasons as run-game coordinator. We'll see about the plan for Mostert in a backfield that has already added RB Chase Edmonds in free agency. Mostert is going in the late rounds of early best-ball drafting, which gives him upside at a low-risk price. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports it's a 1-year, $3.25 million deal.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that the Commanders are expected to re-sign WR Cam Sims. The 5th-year wideout caught just 15 balls for Washington last season but 32 the year before. Ben Standig of The Athletic said on our podcast earlier this month that HC Ron Rivera has indicated they want to get Sims the ball more going forward. Sims has a ways to go to become fantasy relevant, but he's a free stash across fantasy football formats right now. Sims turned 26 in January.
Raiders DE Maxx Crosby signed a 4-year extension with the Raiders on Friday, with $53 million guaranteed amid $95 million total. Crosby posted a middling 8 sacks in his 3rd season, but that belied his true performance. Crosby led all defenders in total pressures, according to Pro Football Focus. And his 30 QB hits exceeded the combined total from his first 2 seasons (27).
RB Raheem Mostert is "making a full recovery and will be ready to play this season," agent Brett Tessler tells ESPN's Adam Schefter. Mostert is rehabbing a knee-cartilage injury and went for testing this week under Dr. Dan Cooper in Dallas. Mostert is set to hit free agency next week. There have been rumors of interest from both sides on him re-signing with the 49ers. Mostert is a low-risk shot late in current best-ball fantasy football drafts.
The Panthers and TE Ian Thomas have agreed to a 3-year, $16.5 million contract with $8 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. It's a surprisingly hefty deal for a guy with just 54 catches and 2 TDs over the past 3 seasons. Thomas had more snaps blocking than in a pass route last year and is unlikely to be a fantasy factor in 2022.
Panthers S Jeremy Chinn is inactive for today's game against the Buccaneers. He sustained an ankle injury in Saturday's practice. DT Derrick Brown is active after arriving questionable with an elbow issue.
Chargers WR Jalen Guyton has been activated from the COVID list. He'll be back for Sunday's game vs. the Broncos. Guyton will only be a potential fantasy play if WR Mike Williams remains on the COVID list for that one.
Chargers WR Jalen Guyton has been placed on the COVID list. His absence on Sunday vs. the Texans would leave Josh Palmer as Los Angeles' #3 WR -- but still short of bankable fantasy value.
Buccaneers LB Devin White (quad) is active for today's game against the Falcons. He finished the week with a pair of full practices and should be good to go for IDP lineups.
Buccaneers LB Devin White (quad) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Falcons. He finished the week with 2 full practices and seems a good bet to play, but we'll confirm his status Sunday morning. Bucs S Jordan Whitehead (calf) hasbeen ruled out for the game. With Mike Edwards suspended over vaccination fraud, Andrew Adams looks likely to join Antoine Winfield in the lineup.
Buccaneers LB Devin White (quad) and DT Vita Vea (knee) are active for today's game against the Colts.
Buccaneers LB Devin White is questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts. He's dealing with a quad injury that kept him out of Wednesday's practice. White returned for limited workouts Thursday and Friday. HC Bruce Arians told reporters Friday that White will be a game-time decision. He said the same about DT Vita Vea, who put in limited practices all week with the knee injury that kept him out of Week 11.
Dolphins DL Christian Wilkins (quad) and LB Andrew Van Ginkel (back) are active for today's game against the Jets.
Dolphins DL Christian Wilkins (quad) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets. He put in limited practices the past 2 days after opening the week on the sideline. LB Andrew Van Ginkel (back) is also questionable. He participated on a limited basis all week. S Brandon Jones finished the week with a full Friday practice after 2 limited days and does not carry an injury status into the game.
49ers RB Raheem Mostert announced on social media that he'll undergo season-ending knee surgery after consulting with multiple doctors. So, if you weren't already planning to, you can safely drop Mostert from all redraft rosters. San Francisco is left with Elijah Mitchell, JaMycal Hasty and Trey Sermon at RB. All 3 figure to be active for Week 2. It's also worth noting that RB Jeff Wilson (knee) is eligible to come off the PUP list in Week 7. You can see where all of those guys sit in our updated Rest-of-Season Rankings.
Niners RB Raheem Mostert has chipped cartilage in the knee he injured Sunday. ESPN’s Nick Wagoner reports that he’ll land on IR and is expected to miss 8 weeks. Elijah Mitchell took control of the backfield after Mostert left in Detroit, with JaMycal Hasty involved as well. We’d bet on Trey Sermon being active at Philly in Week 2. We’ll see about the workload split. Obviously, we have to assume that Mitchell will lead the way again — barring reports to the contrary.
