Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
Browns RB Nick Chubb ran for 118 yards and a TD on 19 carries in Sunday's narrow loss to the Falcons. It marked Chubb's 3rd game of more than 100 yards already this season. He added 9 yards on 2 catches among 3 targets. RB Kareem Hunt tallied just 2 catches (for 19 yards) on 3 targets as well, adding 49 yards on 10 rushes. Home dates with the Chargers and Patriots lie ahead the next 2 weeks.
Browns RB Nick Chubb matched a career high with 3 rushing scores in a Week 2 loss to the Jets. He out-carried Kareem Hunt 17-13 in a game that saw Cleveland play most of its snaps with a lead. Chubb even had a 33-yarder called back by holding. As the cherry on top, the veteran added 3 catches, a total he never exceeded last season. Cleveland now has a quick turnaround with a Thursday night game vs. Pittsburgh.
Browns RB Nick Chubb racked up 141 yards on 22 carries in Sunday's win at Carolina, but RB Kareem Hunt got both of the team's TDs. Hunt scored from 24 yards out on the ground, among 11 rushes for 46 yards. He added a 1-yard TD reception amid 4 catches for 24 yards. Hunt checked in 2nd on the team in receptions and yards. WR Donovan Peoples-Jones was the only other Brown to crack 20 receiving yards.
Browns RB Kareem Hunt returned to team drills Sunday, according to multiple reports. That followed closely behind reports of a “hold-in” and trade request for Hunt. It sounds like the RB has done what he can in pursuit of the extension and will now get back to business as usual. Hunt doesn’t have much leverage in trying to force the new contract
Browns RB Kareem Hunt has requested a trade, according to insider Mary Kay Cabot, but the team has already told him it won't happen. That could change, of course, especially if Hunt threatens to sit out regular-season games. We'll see where this goes. A move out of Cleveland would almost certainly help Hunt's fantasy value. It'd also be a boost for RB Nick Chubb and turn RB D'Ernest Johnson into a nice pick in the double-digit rounds of fantasy drafts.
RB Kareem Hunt has told the Browns that he won’t take part in team drills until he gets a contract extension, ESPN reports. Hunt is in the 2nd season of a 2-year deal. He also resides in a crowded backfield. That leaves little leverage for the veteran. We’ll see where this goes, but we’re not altering Hunt’s fantasy football outlook at this point
ESPN’s Jake Trotter writes that Browns RB D'Ernest Johnson “could be the odd man out” in the backfield. Trotter points out that Johnson's due a reasonable $900K in guaranteed money, so the contract isn’t an issue. Cleveland also spent a Round 5 pick on Cincinnati RB Jerome Ford. In what could be a lost season for Cleveland — pending the length of Deshaun Watson’s suspension — it might make the most sense to get something in return for Johnson. Note that Kareem Hunt enters a contract season; Nick Chubb is signed through 2024.
Browns RB Kareem Hunt says that he’d love to remain with the team long-term. "I was born and raised here," Hunt told beat writer Mary Kay Cabot. "I'd love to finish my career here and just keep playing the game with [Nick] Chubb longer and with the great guys on this great team.” Trade rumors followed Hunt this offseason, but for now, indications are that he'll remain in Cleveland -- at least in the short term. Hunt, 27 in August, enters the final season of a 2-year deal.
Browns GM Andrew Berry commented on the skill set of 5th-round RB Jerome Ford. "We really think Jerome has a well-rounded game," Berry said. "A bigger guy who can really run. I actually think one of the areas in his game that’s probably a little bit understated is just his ability in the passing game. He’s a guy we think can generate explosive plays for us.” Browns scout Max Paulus added that Ford will work on his kick return ability this offseason. Of course, Ford’s more of a dynasty hold than a redraft sleeper. Behind Nick Chubb, the Browns return contract-year RB Kareem Hunt. As an RFA, D’Ernest Johnson was tendered this offseason, although he’s yet to put pen to paper. "I wouldn’t touch on any individual contract situation," Berry said. "We still think very highly of D’Ernest. Look, we would anticipate him being here moving forward, but we’ll see."
The Browns selected RB Jerome Ford in Round 5 of the 2022 NFL Draft. A 4-star high school recruit, Ford started out at Alabama before transferring to Cincinnati. He broke out as a senior with 215-1,1319-19 rushing (plus 21 catches) alongside QB Desmond Ridder. Ford’s tape shows some boom or bust tendencies, but there’s enough here in raw speed alone to pique our interest. At 5’11, 210 pounds, he ran a 4.46 forty with a strong 1.55 ten-yard split. Ford will sit behind Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt in Cleveland this year, but Hunt is set to hit free agency next offseason. Chubb is signed through 2024.
Browns RB Kareem Hunt (ankle) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Bengals. RB D’Ernest Johnson came off the COVID list earlier this week and will be the #2 RB behind Nick Chubb today.
Browns RB D'Ernest Johnson has been activated from the COVID list and is eligible to play vs. the Bengals on Sunday. We'll see if RB Kareem Hunt, who's questionable with his ankle injury, ends up playing.
Browns RB Kareem Hunt (ankle) was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s finale vs. the Bengals. Cleveland has been eliminated from playoff contention and might not want to play Hunt at less than 100%. We’ll find out whether he’s active around 11:30 am ET on Sunday. RB D'Ernest Johnson was placed on the COVID list on Monday and remains there as of Friday afternoon.
Browns RB D'Ernest Johnson was placed on the COVID list on Monday. We'll see if he can get cleared in time for Sunday's finale vs. the Bengals. Johnson surprisingly out-snapped RB Nick Chubb 39 to 30 in the Week 17 loss to Pittsburgh but finished with just 14 yards on 6 touches. He'll be off the fantasy radar if RB Kareem Hunt returns from his ankle injury.
Browns RB Kareem Hunt (ankle) is inactive for tonight's game vs. the Steelers. He put in 2 limited practices this week, so he seemingly has a good shot to be back for next weekend's finale vs. the Bengals. Nick Chubb will dominate work in Cleveland's backfield tonight.
Browns RB Kareem Hunt (ankle) is listed as questionable for Monday night's game vs. the Steelers. He put in limited practices on Friday and Saturday. Hunt would be a shaky fantasy play coming off the high-ankle sprain if he does suit up. Throw in the Monday night kickoff, and Hunt should remain on fantasy benches. His return would put a dent in RB Nick Chubb's upside, though.
Browns RB Kareem Hunt returned to a limited practice on Friday – his first official workout since suffering a high-ankle sprain back in Week 14. Hunt now has a shot to play vs. the Steelers on Monday night, but we’ll get another update on his status on Saturday afternoon.
