Jahan Dotson Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Commanders WR Jahan Dotson (hamstring) has been ruled out for Thursday night's game vs. the Bears, as expected. We'll see if the rookie can make it back for Week 7. Dotson's absence leaves Curtis Samuel and Terry McLaurin as Washington's clear top 2 WRs. WRs Cam Sims and Dyami Brown figure to split snaps and routes behind them.

Commanders WR Jahan Dotson (hamstring) remained sidelined for Tuesday's practice. He's a long shot to play vs. the Bears on Thursday night. Cam Sims finished 3rd among Washington WRs with a 62% route rate last week, but it was WR Dyami Brown who posted the big 2-TD day. Sims and Brown are only considerations in 1-game DFS contests.

Commanders WR Jahan Dotson (hamstring) is out for Sunday's game vs. the Titans. No surprise after HC Ron Rivera said earlier this week that Dotson would miss "a week or 2." He'll be replaced by some combination of WRs Dyami Brown and Cam Sims -- but WRs Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel should pick up extra targets.

Commanders WRs Curtis Samuel (illness) and Jahan Dotson (hamstring) remained out of practice Thursday. Samuel still has time to rebound ahead of Sunday's game against the Titans. We wouldn't bet on Dotson being available, though.

Commanders HC Ron Rivera said Monday that WR Jahan Dotson's hamstring injury "might keep him out a week or 2." So expect the rookie to at least miss this Sunday's game vs. the Titans. We'll see about his Week 6 availability. WR Dyami Brown picked up Dotson's snaps after he exited Sunday's loss to the Cowboys.

Commanders QB Carson Wentz threw for just 170 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs in Sunday's 25-10 loss to the Cowboys. WR Curtis Samuel once again led the team in targets (7), catching 4 balls for 38 yards. TE Logan Thomas, WR Terry McLaurin and TE John Bates tied for 2nd with 6 targets apiece. Rookie WR Jahan Dotson led the squad with 43 receiving yards and snagged the lone TD but left early with a hamstring injury. Dallas looked like a negative matchup heading in. A Week 5 home date with the Titans presents rebound potential.

Commanders WR Jahan Dotson suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday's game at Dallas and is questionable to return. With Washington currently down 15 late in the 4th quarter, we'd be surprised if Dotson returns. We'll see about his status heading into Week 5.

WR Curtis Samuel led the Commanders in targets for the 3rd straight game in Sunday's loss to the Eagles. His 10 stood 1 ahead of WR Terry McLaurin and RB J.D. McKissic and 2 ahead of WR Jahan Dotson. TE Logan Thomas trailed in 5th place with 3 looks. Samuel caught a team-high 7 balls but collected a mere 48 yards (6.9 per catch). McLaurin turned his 6 receptions into 102 yards, while Dotson managed just 2 catches for 10 yards amid 8 targets. Through 3 weeks, QB Carson Wentz ranks 4th in the league in pass attempts, which has helped the volume of every pass-catcher.

For the 2nd straight game, WR Curtis Samuel led all Commanders in targets Sunday. He drew 9 in the 36-27 loss to Detroit, catching 7 for 78 yards and a TD. (Samuel added a carry for 21 yards.) WR Terry McLaurin checked in 2nd, catching 4 of his 8 targets for 75 yards. J.D. McKissic rebounded from a quiet Week 1 to rank 3rd with 7 targets, catching all of them for 54 yards. WR Jahan Dotson and TE Logan Thomas garnered 5 looks apiece and each caught a TD.

Commanders WR Jahan Dotson tallied 3 catches, 40 yards and 2 TDs against Jacksonville. The rookie saw only 5 targets — a 12.1% share — but made them count alongside a surprisingly effective Carson Wentz. Both scores came on end zone targets, including one that was in particularly tight coverage along the sideline. Encouragingly, Dotson ran a route on 90% of Wentz’s drop-backs — not far behind Terry McLaurin’s 94%. Dotson has the talent to stick as a useful fantasy option in the right matchups. Week 2 turns up a matchup with a burnable Lions secondary.

ESPN’s Jon Keim writes that Commanders WR Jahan Dotson “has been sharp since the spring.” Keim points out the rookie’s “veteran route-running savvy” and “excellent hands.” In addition, Washington reportedly believed that Dotson was one of the most “pro-ready players” in the draft. While a surprise pick at 16th overall, the team clearly has high hopes for the 22-year-old. Which version of Carson Wentz we get might ultimately decide Dotson's 2022 fantasy value.

The Commanders plan to play QB Carson Wentz and other starters for about 15-20 snaps in the preseason opener against the Panthers, according to The Washington Post. We'd bet on that increasing for the 2nd exhibition. We'll be interested to see how Wentz fares with his new WRs, as well as rookie RB Brian Robinson's role and performance.

The Commanders added Penn State WR Jahan Dotson with the 16th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. He notably goes ahead of Arkansas WR Treylon Burks. Dotson might have the best combination of route-running ability and hands in this year’s WR class. He has the quickness and technique to defeat press coverage and the suddenness and efficiency to create separation. That’s earned him comparisons to Diontae Johnson and Emmanuel Sanders. Dotson also boasts a surprisingly large catch radius and posted a career 5.2% drop rate, according to Pro Football Focus. He didn’t break out until his junior year at Penn State, although he did post big market shares in both 2020 and 2021. Size is the most notable wart on Dotson’s profile. He’s just 5’11 and 178 pounds with 18th percentile arm length and a 22nd percentile wingspan. That figures to limit Dotson to mostly slot duties in the NFL and puts a cap on his fantasy upside. It’ll be interesting to see how Washington deploys Dotson alongside WR Curtis Samuel, who’s played plenty in the slot.
