Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
49ers RB Christian McCaffrey totaled 19 touches and 107 yards in Sunday’s win over Tampa Bay. He played over 80% of the snaps in his 2024 debut.
Niners RB Jordan Mason left in the first half of Sunday night's game after re-injuring his shoulder and did not return. RB Isaac Guerendo took advantage, rushing 14 times for 85 yards and a TD. The rookie also added 3 receptions for 17 yards among 4 targets.
49ers RB Jordan Mason re-injured his shoulder in the first half of Sunday night's game vs. the Cowboys. He's back on the sidelines for the second half but hasn't yet hit the field. RB Isaac Guerendo is operating as San Francisco's lead back. The Niners have a Week 9 bye, and RB Christian McCaffrey is expected back for Week 10.
Niners RB Jordan Mason returned from his Week 6 shoulder injury to reclaim control of the backfield in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs. He played 85.7% of offensive snaps, trailing only QB Brock Purdy and TE George Kittle among skill-position 49ers. Mason also handled 14 of 15 HB carries -- FB Kyle Juszczyk had one as well -- and garnered 2 of 3 targets for the position. Mason ran 27 routes (73% share) to just 3 for Isaac Guerendo. Purdy killed Mason's fantasy line, though, by vulturing a pair of 1-yard TD plunges.
49ers RB Jordan Mason (shoulder) was limited in Wednesday's practice. HC Kyle Shanahan previously labeled Mason "day to day" with his sprained AC joint. He seems legitimately questionable for Sunday's showdown with the Chiefs. We'll keep you updated on Mason's status leading up to that one. His absence would leave rookie Isaac Guerendo as San Francisco's lead back against the league's top-ranked RB defense.
The 49ers believe RB Jordan Mason is dealing with an AC sprain in his left shoulder, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. The injury "is not considered serious, but he will undergo further testing today," Schefter adds. It sounds like Mason at least has a chance to be ready for Week 7's game vs. the Chiefs. We'll look for further updates on his status. Rookie Isaac Guerendo will likely operate as San Francisco's lead back if Mason misses time.
49ers RB Jordan Mason injured his left shoulder midway through the second quarter of Thursday night's game vs. the Seahawks. He missed the rest of the half, returned to carry on the first play of the third quarter, but then didn't play again. Mason was never officially ruled out and remained on the sidelines trying to keep his shoulder loose. HC Kyle Shanahan said after the game that they'd find out more about the injury on Friday. Mason was on his way to a big game, carrying nine times for 73 yards in less than one half of action.
Niners RB Jordan Mason carried 20 times for 100 yards and a TD in Sunday's loss at Minnesota. He drew nearly 100% of the RB rushing snare, with rookie RB Isaac Guerendo garnering just one attempt. WR Deebo Samuel took two other carries but lost 10 yards on his work. Mason added one catch for 4 yards on his lone target.
49ers RB Christian McCaffrey will officially not play again for Week 2 due to his Achilles injury. Despite getting in limited practices all week, McCaffrey will miss his second straight game to open the season with RB Jordan Mason taking over the starting role like he did against the Jets. HC Kyle Shanahan said that IR is a possibility for McCaffrey
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport calls 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (calf, Achilles) a "long shot" to play vs. the Vikings this weekend, based on conversations with the team. That echoes ESPN's Adam Schefter's sentiment on Monday night. McCaffrey is dealing with a calf injury and Achilles tendinitis. It's the latter giving him more trouble now.
Niners RB Christian McCaffrey is inactive for tonight's game against the Jets. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports that McCaffrey tested his injured calf today and that "it didn't feel right and the 49ers wanted to err on the side of caution." That's been the message from McCaffrey and the team ever since the injury first showed up back in early August. That he's now missing a game more than a month later suggests the issue has always been more significant than they wanted us to believe.
The 49ers have surprisingly placed RB Elijah Mitchell on IR with no designation to return. That means he'll miss the season. It's surprising because his injury had merely been reported as a hamstring strain. We'll watch for more details on his situation.
SI.com's Grant Cohn says undrafted RB Cody Schrader has been the "top rookie" at 49ers camp, where many others have dealt with injuries. "He has been the most consistent rookie on the team," Cohn writes. "He makes big plays as a runner and as a receiver every day. He seems like a veteran, not a rookie." Cohn predicts a "monster preseason" for Schrader and a spot on the regular-season roster.
The 49ers selected Louisville RB Isaac Guerendo in Round 4 of the NFL Draft. Guerendo battled hamstring and foot injuries at Wisconsin. When healthy, he sat behind Jonathan Taylor and fellow rookie Braelon Allen. So, after five years in Madison (and only 99 carries), Guerendo transferred to Lousiville in 2023. He shared the backfield with Jawhar Jordan, who actually led the team with 181 carries (vs. 132 for Guerendo). The duo posted nearly identical receiving lines: 22-234-0 for Guerendo and 21-246-1 for Jordan. Guerendo wins with an impressive combo of size, speed, and athleticism. The 221-pounder brings return value, too, with 714 career kick return yards. He was the talk of the NFL Combine after posting a ridiculous all-around workout. Consider this: Guerendo’s 4.33 forty time, 129" broad jump, and 41.5" vertical jump all ranked in the 95th percentile or better among Combine RBs since 1999. Now, he doesn’t always play up to those testing numbers. But that potential remains as he gains more reps. In San Francisco, Guerendo will be battling for scraps behind Christian McCaffrey. It’s an awful spot for the rookie’s short-term fantasy value. Landing with HC Kyle Shanahan helps the long-term outlook. McCaffrey turns 28 in June and is signed through 2025.
Louisville RB Isaac Guerendo rocked a 4.33-second 40 time at the Scouting Combine on Saturday. That rated 99th-percentile among historical Combine RBs. Doing so at 221 pounds gave him a 100th-percentile speed score (125.7) for the position. Be careful about getting overly excited for Guerendo, who failed to eclipse 64 carries across four seasons at Wisconsin. He rushed 132 times and caught 22 passes in a fifth year at Louisville, averaging 6.1 yards per rush and 10.6 per reception. Guerendo still trailed teammate Jawhar Jordan in carries, yards per carry, yards per catch, and TDs. We'll see where he lands in the NFL draft, but Guerendo looks more like an intriguing third-round pick for rookie drafts than a guy who should vault into the first two rounds.
