Stack Seahawks-Falcons in DFS

There are a few fun games to stack in DFS this week:

• Panthers at Commanders
• Lions at Vikings
• Texans at Packers

But Seahawks-Falcons is my favorite.

The game has a 51-point over/under, so it’s not sneaking up on anyone. But I think it has the best chance to turn into a back-and-forth shootout.

The game will be played in a dome between two fast-paced offenses who aren’t afraid to chuck it. Atlanta leads the league in neutral pace, while Seattle ranks third. The Seahawks are the league’s pass-heaviest offense, ranking first in pass rate, neutral pass rate, and pass rate over expected. The Falcons are more balanced, but we’ve seen them lean into the pass in recent games against the Saints (+8% PROE) and Bucs (+3% PROE).

The setup gives this game a chance to produce a ton of plays and pass attempts.

Neither defense is playing very well, either. The Seahawks rank 17th in pass defense DVOA and are a top-2 matchup for QBs and TEs. The Falcons sit 21st in DVOA and 27th in adjusted fantasy points allowed to WRs.

Mix and match both QBs in DFS tournament lineups with D.K. Metcalf, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts.

FAAB Dollars Were Meant To Be Spent

Two quick questions:

How many times have you reached the end of the fantasy season, only to retain a healthy portion of your FAAB?

Ever wished you hadn’t been so frugal with your fake dollars?

Well, that was me. The thinking: If most other teams blew their cash early, I’d be able to snag a difference-maker at a bargain.

Of course, that approach can work. But in recent years, here’s what I realized:

A strictly frugal approach with FAAB dollars is like trying to time the stock market, as opposed to simply staying in the market.

You might get lucky and have a major asset emerge on the wire in Week 12, or Week 13… 

But waiting that long could just as easily prevent you from adding a player – or several guys – with a longer stretch of productivity.

I know we’re not yet halfway through the season. But it’s food for thought as many of you scrap for a playoff spot and need reinforcements today.

One other note to address, based on what we see in the Draft Sharks inbox: The suggested FAAB amounts shown inside our waiver wire pickups articles are rough guides. 

You can bid under our suggested amount – or above. Each situation is unique, and you know your league dynamics best. 

Play Bub Means In DFS On Thursday Night

The Broncos-Saints matchup tonight became weird due to injuries. 

The Saints are not only missing QB Derek Carr, but now WRs Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are out and an already thin WR group grows even shallower.

Enter rookie WR Bub Means. The fifth-round pick from Pitt is known for his athleticism and speed, which was displayed when he replaced Olave last week. 6’1, 212 pounds and 4.43 speed means big-play possibility for a DFS spike.

QB Spencer Rattler has the arm strength to get the ball down the field to Means.

He is cheap. $8,500 on FanDuel and only $4,000 on DraftKings, allowing you to stack the rest of your lineup with Alvin Kamara and QBs.

Most importantly, Broncos CB Patrick Surtain II is out as well. He has been able to lock down half of the field on defense.

Means has an exciting ceiling, precisely what is needed in a one-game DFS slate. 

Thursday Night Showdown Thoughts

Nearly every Saint we care about is already out for this game, which means we can get a little silly with some Showdown lineups.

I like to pick a narrative and build a lineup or a couple of lineups around that game flow. 

Do we think it will be a defensive battle or a kicker shootout? I try not to inverse-stack a quarterback or running back with the opposing defense.

Here are some value plays to consider:

• Audric Estime - DK= $400, $/xPPG = 444
  •  I like the RB matchup. Estime will likely be in most of my lineups.
• Devaughn Vele - DK= $4400, $/xPPG = 440
• Mason Tipton  - DK= $2400, $/xPPG = 774
• Troy Franklin - DK= $3000, $/xPPG = 536
• Jordan Mims - DK= $200, $/xPPG = 100

Sneaking one of these guys in as the 6th player allows for a lot of high-value players in spots 1-5. 

Have fun with it. I expect creating these lineups will be more fun than actually watching the game.

Sell David Montgomery

The guys made me put this Detroit RB in the Hold section of this week’s Trade Targets, but I think it’s a good time to look into selling him.

As I mentioned there, Montgomery ranks eighth among RBs in PPR points per game so far vs. just RB22 in expected points per game. That’s because he has scored every week – and twice last Sunday.

He’s in the perfect offense to keep scoring more than “expected.” But we all know Monty won’t keep scoring every week. A tough matchup at Minnesota this week could easily end that run.

TDs Hide Concerning Workload

More importantly, the bevy of TDs are masking a concerning workload. Montgomery has garnered just 12 carries in two straight lopsided victories, tying Jahmyr Gibbs in that category vs. Dallas and trailing him vs. Seattle.

Lopsided victories are supposed to be “Montgomery games” … aren’t they?

We watched Montgomery cede work to Gibbs late last season vs. where they started. And that has gotten worse in 2024.

Montgomery finished last season at 53.2% carry share, 17th among RBs.

This year, he’s at 45.5% – 26th among RBs.

I’m not saying Montgomery’s about to crash. He’ll keep getting plenty of carries near the goal line in one of the league’s best offenses.

But he’s also likely to be far less consistent with his fantasy scoring the rest of the way than he has been.

Don’t dump Montgomery for whatever you can get. But consider moving him to enhance your roster.
