Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf (knee) did not practice on Wednesday. HC Pete Carroll hasn't quite ruled him out for this weekend's game vs. the Giants, but Metcalf seems like an extreme long shot for that one. Marquise Goodwin is expected to step in as Seattle's #2 WR behind Tyler Lockett.
The Steelers announced that EDGE T.J. Watt returned to practice Wednesday but also said that he remains on IR. That aligns with the previously reported target date of Week 10 -- after the bye -- for Watt's return to game action.
Steelers EDGE T.J. Watt did "something close to his usual warmup routine" before Sunday night's loss to the Dolphins, according to Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He adds that the Steelers "expect" Watt to return for the Week 10 game against the Saints, which would follow Pittsburgh's bye week. Originally out with a pectoral injury, Watt later had his left knee scoped. We'll keep watch for confirmation on that return date. In the meantime, Watt is worth stashing in any but the shallowest of IDP leagues.
Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said in a Monday radio appearance that WR D.K. Metcalf suffered a patellar tendon injury in the win over the Chargers. Metcalf won't need surgery on the knee, according to Carroll, but it's still unclear how long he'll be sidelined. We'll keep you posted on the situation, but Metcalf owners shouldn't plan on having him in Week 8 fantasy lineups.
Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth returned from his 1-game concussion absence to lead the team with 8 catches and 75 yards on 9 targets in Sunday night's loss to the Dolphins. Miami has presented 1 of the league's best scoring matchups for TEs on the year. Freiermuth has also done well on targets, drawing 7+ in 4 of the 5 games he has played and not left early. Sunday night even found him playing his 2nd-smallest snap share of the season. Week 8 brings an Eagles matchup that's challenging all the Steelers but might favor Freiermuth's target volume. He's a weekly starter for most fantasy football lineups at what has been a tough position to navigate.
Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf injured his knee in the 1st quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Chargers and was quickly ruled out. That often means a significant injury, but we'll update Metcalf's status when we know more.
Chargers TE Donald Parham (concussion) is out for Sunday’s game vs. the Seahawks. His absence makes TE Gerald Everett a safer fantasy play.
Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth (concussion) put in a full week of practice and isn’t listed on the final injury report. He’ll be back for Sunday night’s game vs. the Dolphins’ 27th-ranked TE defense.
Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth (concussion) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. Barring a setback, he should return for Sunday night's game vs. Miami's 27th-ranked TE defense.
Chargers TE Donald Parham is in the concussion protocol, HC Brandon Staley said Tuesday. Parham will have trouble getting cleared in time for Sunday's game vs. the Seahawks. He saw 3 targets on an 18% route rate in the win over the Broncos, so his absence is a slight boost for TE Gerald Everett.
Chargers TE Donald Parham caught all 3 of his targets for 53 yards in Week 6. This followed a 1-target, 0-catch debut in Week 5. The 6'8 skyscraper carries some appeal in ultra-deep TD-only leagues, but note that he ran only 11 routes against Denver. That ranked behind both Gerald Everett (37) and Tre’ McKitty (17).
Steelers S Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee), CB Cameron Sutton (hamstring), CB Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) and CB Levi Wallace (concussion) are out for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. S Terrell Edmunds has cleared the concussion protocol and is off the final injury report. He missed last week's game. All the missing CBs can obviously only be good news for Bucs QB Tom Brady and his wideouts.
Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth (concussion) is out for Sunday's game vs. the Bucs. He did get in limited practices this week, giving him a good chance to be cleared for Week 7. Freiermuth's absence this weekend leaves Zach Gentry as Pittsburgh's lead TE. You should be able to do better in season-long lineups.
Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth (concussion) got in a limited practice on Wednesday. He sustained his 3rd concussion in the past 11 months in last week's loss to the Bills, so we'd be a bit surprised if he was cleared in time for Sunday's game vs. the Bucs. But we'll continue to monitor his progress.
Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth sustained a concussion in the 2nd half of Sunday's game vs. the Bills. We'll track his progress through the protocol this coming week.
Steelers EDGE T.J. Watt recently arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to address an issue that has lingered since August. ESPN reports that operation is expected to delay Watt's return another week or 2. He was already on IR for a pectoral injury, with a potential Week 8 return. Pittsburgh has a Week 9 bye, which might have motivated the surgery's timing. Week 10 vs. New Orleans looks like the new target date. We'll see about Watt's status as that draws closer.
Steelers S Terrell Edmunds (concussion) and CB Cameron Sutton (groin, hamstring) are questionable for Sunday's game against the Bills. CB Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) has been ruled out. S Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee), DL Cameron Heyward (elbow, ankle) and CB Levi Wallace (foot) are off the final injury report.
The Falcons are placing RB Cordarrelle Patterson on IR with a designation to return. According to multiple reports, Patterson had a "procedure" Monday morning. We're assuming it addressed the left knee that had him questionable entering Sunday and limited his touches against Cleveland. Patterson will miss at least the next 4 games, leaving the backfield to rookie Tyler Allgeier, Caleb Huntley and Avery Williams. Damien Williams figures to be in the mix as well if he makes it back from his IR stint for a rib injury. There's no exciting option in this group, but we'd bet on Allgeier as the most productive. A Week 5 meeting with Tampa Bay likely won't prove as favorable as it looked to Chiefs RBs on Sunday night.
Falcons RB Cordarrelle Patterson played just 16 snaps (29%) in the Week 4 win over the Browns. His 9 carries ranked 3rd on the team, behind RBs Tyler Allgeier and Caleb Huntley with 10 apiece. Patterson wasn't targeted in the passing game. He salvaged his fantasy day with a 13-yard TD but finished with just 38 total yards. Patterson entered this game questionable with a knee issue, which might explain why his snaps were scaled back. But it's also possible that the Falcons want to keep him limited going forward after Patterson wore down late last season.
Steelers S Minkah Fitzpatrick came away from Sunday's loss to the Jets with a knee injury. HC Mike Tomlin said afterward that he expected to have more info on the injury Monday.
