Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
Tests on Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown's injured ankle were "encouraging overall," according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. "They’ll be cautious, but if St. Brown misses time, it shouldn’t be anything long-term," Pelissero adds. It doesn't sound like St. Brown is quite a lock to play Week 4. But we're expecting him to considering he returned to last week's game after hurting the ankle.
Bears HC Matt Eberflus labeled RB David Montgomery "day to day" after Sunday's win over the Texans. Eberflus added that Montgomery has a “couple things going on” with his lower leg injury but said he’s “good” right now. We'll look for further updates on Montgomery's status. RB Khalil Herbert was awesome in his play vs. Houston, rushing 20 times for 157 yards and 2 TDs.
Bears RB David Montgomery hurt his right leg in the 1st quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Texans. He went to the blue medical tent and then eventually to the locker room. We'll update Montgomery's status when we know more. His absence would leave Khalil Herbert as Chicago's lead back.
Update: Montgomery has a right knee/ankle injury and is doubtful to return, the team announced.
Lions EDGE Aidan Hutchinson (thigh) is active for today's game against the Vikings. He barely practiced this week but seems OK for normal IDP lineup usage.
Lions EDGE Aidan Hutchinson is questionable for Sunday's game after missing 2 practices this week with a thigh injury. He did return for a limited Friday workout, though, and said he expects to play against the Vikings. "I'm feeling good; it'll be fine," the rookie said after practice, according to SB Nation's Jeremy Reisman. HC Dan Campbell added that he doesn't mind Hutchinson's missed practice time in preparing for the game. "It's always better to practice, so you get the looks, the live looks. But I'm not concerned because he's mentally -- he's in it," Campbell said. We'll confirm Hutchinson's status Sunday morning.
RB David Montgomery was the lone bright spot for Chicago in Week 2, rushing 15 times for 122 yards. The Bears trailed by double digits for most of this one, so fantasy owners should feel fortunate with the outcome. Montgomery ceded only 5 opportunities to Khalil Herbert (4 carries, 1 target) and looked at his best with 8 forced missed tackles (per Pro Football Focus). He’ll look to keep rolling at home against a Texans D that just limited Denver to 16 points.
Rams WR Allen Robinson enjoyed a much better Week 2 than opener, posting a 4-53-1 receiving line on 5 targets in the win over the Falcons. He checked in 3rd among Rams in targets but drew just 13.9% of QB Matthew Stafford's total attempts. WR Cooper Kupp again dominated the work, garnering 38.9% target share. He racked up 11-108-2 on 14 targets. TE Tyler Higbee ranked 2nd with 9 targets, catching 7 balls for 71 yards. Higbee has claimed a strong 26% target share through 2 weeks. No other Rams drew more than 3 looks vs. Atlanta.
Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown racked up 9 catches for 116 yards and 2 TDs in Sunday's win over the Commanders. That marked the 8th straight game in which he secured at least 8 receptions, matching the record held by Michael Thomas and Antonio Brown. In Sunday's game, St. Brown tallied 5 more targets than any other Lion, garnering 35.3% of QB Jared Goff's pass attempts. TE T.J. Hockenson ranked 2nd, with 7 targets, but caught only 3 for 26 yards. Josh Reynolds and D'Andre Swift caught the other 2 of Goff's 4 TD passes in the game. St. Brown is so far vindicating anyone who drafted him this summer.
Lions QB Jared Goff looked like the same old limited passer in Sunday's loss to the Eagles, but that didn't stop WR Amon-Ra St. Brown from helping fantasy football players. The 2nd-year wideout posted an 8-64-1 receiving line on a team-high 12 targets, accounting for 32.4% of Goff's total attempts. WR D.J. Shark followed, producing a 4-52-1 line on 8 targets (21.6%). TE T.J. Hockenson (7, 18.9%) was the only other Lions to see more than 3 looks. He caught 4 of those for 38 yards. It was a fine opener on the usage front for all 3 players, each of whom ran a route on more than 75% of Goff dropbacks. The initial results look especially encouraging for St. Brown, if you spent an early-ish pick on him. Week 2 brings a fine home matchup with Washington.
Bears RB David Montgomery remained the clear #1 back in workload for Sunday's win over the 49ers. He beat Khalil Herbert 17-9 in carries and led the team with 4 targets (among just 17 Justin Fields pass attempts). Montgomery caught 3 of those for 24 yards, while Herbert caught his lone target for a loss of 2. Herbert proved more efficient on the ground, though, tallying 45 yards (5.0 per rush) and the team's lone rushing score vs. just 26 yards (1.5 per rush) for Montgomery. Playing time went a little more than double in Montgomery's favor (66% vs. 29%). We'll see whether that changes going forward. Rookie RB Trestan Ebner got onto the field for just 4 offensive snaps.
WR Allen Robinson caught just 1 of 2 targets for 12 yards in his Rams debut vs. the Bills on Thursday night. The 2 targets were just 4.9% of the team total -- and notably 4 fewer than WR Ben Skowronek. (WR Van Jefferson didn't play after August knee surgery.) The good news is that Robinson played 97% of the Rams' offensive snaps and ran a route on 96% of pass plays. But this was a very worrisome performance after Robinson's ugly 2021 season.
Lions WR Jameson Williams (knee) posted video of himself running and changing direction at about three-quarters speed on Sunday. The rookie has already been placed on the Reserve Non-Football Injury list, which knocks him out for at least the first 4 games of the season. He doesn't seem particularly close to being full-go, so we're not expecting to see him even when first eligible in Week 5. But at least he's making tangible progress. Williams is just a bench stash in dynasty leagues and deep redraft leagues.
Bears RB David Montgomery worked well ahead of RB Khalil Herbert in Saturday's preseason finale. Montgomery was on the field for 20 of QB Justin Fields' 22 snaps, per Pro Football Focus. Herbert played the other 2. Despite buzz that this could be more of a committee backfield under a new coaching staff, it looks like Montgomery will open the season as Chicago's clear lead back. Consider him a low-upside RB2. Herbert is a bench stash.
The Lions have moved WR Jameson Williams (knee) to the Reserve Non-Football-Injury list. That knocks the rookie out for at least the first 4 games of the season -- but it'll likely be longer than that before he makes his NFL debut. "The hope is he’ll be ready to play around midseason," NFL Network's Tom Pelissero tweeted. We currently project Williams to play 11 games this season.
Lions GM Brad Holmes says WR Jameson Williams will miss Week 1, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. He declined to give a public timetable beyond that, though. "We're going to be very smart with him," Holmes added. We don't know yet whether Williams will start the regular season on the PUP list, but Detroit has clearly indicated they'll be patient in activating him.
Lions QB Jared Goff spoke glowingly on 2nd-year WR Amon-Ra St. Brown. "I'm looking for him when things break down, and I'm looking for him when we need a play," Goff said. "Right now, he's that guy. He can take a sweep to the house. At the same time, he understands defense and coverage, and it's so rare for a young player to have that ability. He keeps asking the right questions and understanding what's going on over there. He's going [up]." St. Brown’s ADP has dropped since early in draft season. As the WR32 in FFPC Main Event drafting, he’s now coming at a reasonable price.
Bears RB David Montgomery has been taking reps with the special teams in training camp. “Wherever they need me, I’m going to be ready to be there,” he said. “I’ve never played special teams before. But I’m always down and excited to learn so I can be better.” Per The Athletic, "Montgomery said it was as simple as seeing his name on the depth chart and going to the special teams drills." We're not sure what to make of this. It could be the Bears just toying around with different options early in training camp. Or it could mean that Montgomery's role on offense will be scaled back this season. We'll see if we learn anything on that front in preseason action. RB Khalil Herbert notably beat Montgomery in both Pro Football Focus rushing grade and Elusive Rating last year.
Broncos WR Tim Patrick tore his right ACL in Tuesday's practice, insider Mike Klis reports. Patrick will miss the entire 2022 season. The timing of the injury at least gives Patrick a good chance to be ready for the start of the 2023 campaign. He signed a 3-year, $34 million extension last November. We had Patrick projected for 85 targets, so this opens up a lot of potential volume for Denver's other pass catchers. WR Jerry Jeudy, WR Courtland Sutton, TE Albert Okwuegbunam and TE Greg Dulcich all get boosts in the rankings. But the biggest winner is WR K.J. Hamler, who has a clear path to the #3 job if he can make it back from last September's torn ACL and dislocated hip.
Broncos WR Tim Patrick was carted to the locker room during practice on Tuesday. Per multiple beat writers, Patrick grabbed his knee after catching a deep ball. We'll keep you posted when we learn more.
The Lions have declined to give a public timeline for WR Jameson Williams' return to the field, but it doesn't seem like it's coming soon. According to Nick Baumgardner of The Athletic: "That rehab schedule might stretch on for a while. Not just through training camp but, perhaps, into a chunk of the season." Williams looks like a strong candidate to open the regular season on the PUP list. Consider him no more than a late-round flyer for 2022 redraft leagues.
