Ty Johnson Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Jets RB Tevin Coleman is out for Sunday's game against the Broncos with a non-COVID illness. He played just 10% of the snaps and handled 5 carries and 0 targets last week, so his absence leaves behind just a little more work for RBs Michael Carter and Ty Johnson.

The Jets have released RB Josh Adams. It's not a surprising drop given Adams' total lack of summer buzz, but it takes 1 player with some NFL experience out of the team's crowded backfield. We wouldn't be shocked if Adams gets a shot elsewhere, but he's not a fantasy factor until further notice.

The Jets rested starters Friday night in their preseason finale vs. Philadelphia. That meant no action for RB Tevin Coleman. Michael Carter and Ty Johnson played, however, and Johnson took the field 1st. Carter did mix in for the 1st drive but saw just 1 carry vs. 5 for Johnson. The work evened out between them by halftime: 8 carries, 1 target for Johnson; 7 carries, 1 target for Carter. The rookie then sat out the 2nd half, while Johnson remained heavily involved. That last point could be a positive for Carter. But he's clearly opening the year at least behind Coleman. Keep that in mind as you decide where to draft any Jets RBs over the next couple of weeks.

Jets beat writer Connor Hughes of The Athletic sees the team’s backfield as a “3-man rotation.” “Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson and Michael Carter will all see their share of snaps in the regular season,” Hughes writes, “with La’Mical Perine working in as the goal-line, short-yardage back.” It’s tough to buy Perine as a factor, but a Jets RB rotation has largely been the theme all summer. Look for the situation to remain fluid throughout the year.

Jets RB Michael Carter played 0 snaps with QB Zach Wilson and the 1st-team offense in Saturday's preseason game vs. the Packers. RB Tevin Coleman got the start and played 10 of 19 snaps with Wilson. RB Ty Johnson played the other 9. We'll see if Carter gets any run with the starters in the final exhibition. But as of now, he's not looking like a guy we'll be able to use in fantasy lineups to start the season.

Andy Vasquez of NorthJersey.com projects RB Ty Johnson as a cut in his admittedly "far too early" 53-player roster projection. "[Tevin] Coleman will likely get the majority of the snaps, but there will be plenty of opportunities for [Michael] Carter and another young back," Vasquez writes. "[Josh] Adams, [La'Mical] Perine and Johnson will battle for the final two spots at this position." We're not particularly excited about any player in what figures to line up as a committee but will be tracking the competition through summer.

The Athletic's Connor Hughes believes it "might not be long before [Jets RB Michael] Carter starts to see the lion’s share of reps." The rookie has had a "promising" spring and early summer, according to Hughes, and looks like the most explosive and best receiver of the Jets' RBs. Hughes does add that the Jets "prefer a running-back-by-committee approach, so guys like Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson and/or La'Mical Perine will be involved. But Carter is the most exciting of the group and has a chance to emerge as a weekly fantasy starter this year.
