Marquez Valdes-Scantling Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

The Packers have designated WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling to return from IR. He seemed on track to return from his hamstring injury in time to play Arizona last Thursday night but ultimately didn't. We'd guess that MVS will be back on the active roster for this Sunday's upside matchup with Kansas City, but we'll watch to make sure he's actually activated. Designating him to return merely opens the window for Valdes-Scantling to return to practice. The team could still wait up to 3 weeks before moving him to the active roster.

Packers WRs Davante Adams and Allen Lazard were not activated from the COVID list ahead of the 4 pm ET deadline and are out for tonight's game vs. the Cardinals. WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) was not activated from IR and is also out. Green Bay did activate WR Malik Taylor from the COVID list and elevated WR Juwann Winfree from the practice squad. So the Packers' WRs tonight are Randall Cobb, Equaniemous St. Brown, Amari Rodgers, Taylor and Winfree.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler hears that it "doesn’t look good" for Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling to return for tonight's game vs. the Cardinals. Green Bay could certainly use MVS, but it sounds like that hamstring still isn't ready. The team needs to decide whether to activate Valdes-Scantling by 4 pm ET today, so we'll know his status by then.

Insider Doug Kyed reports that Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) is tentatively expected back for Thursday night's game vs. the Cardinals. He's been out since hurting his hamstring late in Week 3. Valdes-Scantling's return would be excellent timing for a Green Bay squad down WRs Davante Adams and Allen Lazard. MVS could step right back into a significant role, although he also carries some risk in his 1st game off a 4-week absence.

Packers WR Allen Lazard has joined WR Davante Adams on the COVID list. Both guys are virtual locks to miss Thursday night's game vs. the Cardinals. We'll see if Green Bay loses anyone else for that one. The Packers are currently down to WRs Randall Cobb, Equanimeous St. Brown and Amari Rodgers on the active roster. WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling is eligible to come off IR. WRs Juwann Winfree and Chris Blair are on the practice squad. RB Aaron Jones and TE Robert Tonyan figure to play big roles in the passing game on Thursday night.

The Packers have placed WR Davante Adams on the COVID list. With their Week 8 game coming Thursday night in Arizona, that almost certainly means Adams will miss the game, regardless of his particular situation. That leaves Green Bay without the guy who has drawn 33% of Aaron Rodgers' pass attempts to date. It also leaves Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard as the top wideouts, with Equanimeous St. Brown likely factoring in as well. We'll see whether WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling is ready to come off IR.

Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) is expected to land on IR, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports. MVS has already been ruled out for Week 4 and will also miss Weeks 5 and 6. He's droppable in most fantasy leagues. We'll see exactly how snaps are divvied behind WR Davante Adams in Sunday's game vs. the Steelers.

Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) is out for Sunday’s game against the Steelers. Allen Lazard should step into the #2 WR role, with Randall Cobb also picking up some extra snaps in the slot.

Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) missed practice again on Thursday. It's looking like he'll miss this weekend's game vs. the Steelers. Look for Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb to operate as Green Bay's #2 and #3 WRs in that one, but they're really only in play in DFS.

Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) did not practice on Wednesday. He's in danger of missing this weekend's game vs. the Steelers. His absence would likely mean a bigger role for WR Allen Lazard.

Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling injured his hamstring in the 4th quarter of Sunday night's game vs. the 49ers. He's officially questionable to return, but we'd be surprised to see him back out there after he pulled up gimpy at the end of a deep route.

The Athletic's Matt Schneidman notes that Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling's hands look much improved in training camp so far. Drops have been a problem for MVS through 3 NFL seasons. "Valdes-Scantling’s hands have been noticeably better so far in camp," Schneidman writes. "Not just on blatantly catchable balls, some of which he has dropped in the past, but on passes he has no business catching, too. If he keeps this up, he’s the clear-cut No. 2 wideout behind Davante Adams. Valdes-Scantling isn’t just a deep-ball threat anymore, and that’s scary for defenses that have largely been able to game plan for a one-dimensional receiver in the past." MVS built some momentum last year with 8 catches, 148 yards and a score in Green Bay's 2 playoff games and has seemingly carried that into 2021. He's a nice target late in drafts -- especially best balls.

WR Randall Cobb tweeted that he's been traded to the Packers, and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirms that the deal will be done once Green Bay gains cap space to make room. Cobb spent his first 8 seasons with QB Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, finishing as a top 30 fantasy WR 3 times (2012, 2014 and 2015). He posted a 55-828-3 line and WR42 PPR finish with the Cowboys in 2019. Then in Houston last year, Cobb tallied 38 catches, 441 yards and 3 scores in 10 games. He finished 60th in PPR points per game. But Cobb ranked a respectable 26th in yards per target, 52nd in yards per route run and 50th in Pro Football Focus receiving grade among 99 WRs with 40+ targets. Rodgers clearly had a big say in this move -- and we'd expect him to make sure Cobb is the starting slot receiver this season. That'll leave Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Allen Lazard and rookie Amari Rodgers fighting for the last spot in 3-WR sets. In Houston, meanwhile, Cobb's departure frees up the starting slot job. Consider newly acquired WR Anthony Miller the favorite to win that.

The forecast for tonight's Titans-Packers game calls for temperatures in the low 30s with snow and winds of 10-15 mph with gusts of 25-30 mph. Those are less-than-ideal conditions for the passing games, but we're still expecting plenty of points in this one. The game still has a big 53.5-point over/under. We'd stick with all the regulars from these teams in fantasy lineups.

The forecast for today's Vikings-Packers game calls for 25 mph sustained winds with gusts close to 40 mph. The wind is expected to die down a bit throughout the game. Temperatures will be in the 30s with a wind chill in the 20s. Those are tough conditions for the passing and kicking games. We've lowered our passing projections a bit for both teams and would avoid both kickers in this game.
