Justin Herbert Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

The Chargers on Wednesday placed WR Mike Williams on the COVID list. He, of course, joins teammate WR Keenan Allen, potentially leaving QB Justin Herbert down his top 2 wideouts for Sunday's game against the Giants. We'll keep an eye on the situations for both players. Jalen Guyton and Joshua Palmer look like the next 2 WRs up. RB Austin Ekeler, TE Jared Cook and even TE Donald Parham could all be in for more targets, though, if Williams and Allen both miss the game. On defense, the Chargers also placed CB Chris Harris Jr. on the COVID list. That might be more interesting for fantasy purposes if the Giants weren't down to their 3rd QB.

Update: HC Brandon Staley says Williams and Harris are on the list merely as close contacts. That means each player can make it back for Sunday's game as long as he continues to test negative.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert (hand) is not listed on the final injury report. He was limited on Wednesday but put in full practices on Thursday and Friday. It doesn’t seem like we should be worried about the hand issue.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert (right hand) was upgraded to full participation in Thursday's practice. We'll see what he does tomorrow and how he's listed on the final injury report, but it doesn't look like we need to worry about the hand issue.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert was limited in Wednesday's practice and listed on the injury report with a right hand injury. He appeared to injure the hand late in last week's loss to the Patriots. We've heard nothing to suggest that Herbert is in danger of missing this weekend's game vs. the Eagles, but check back tomorrow for another update.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert's right (throwing) hand was wrapped and iced after Sunday's win over the Chiefs, according to NFL Network's James Palmer. Herbert was able to play through the issue, and Palmer confirms that the post-game treatment was "most likely precaution." But this will be a situation to monitor this coming week.

Chargers HC Brandon Staley said Thursday that QB Justin Herbert won't play at all in the preseason. That's not necessarily good or bad news. It does mean that we won't get to see him at all in the new offense until the regular season. We have Herbert below the top tier (or top 2?) in our QB rankings. With just 1 year behind him and a new coaching staff in place, there's more risk than we see in the QBs above him. But Herbert, of course, also showed us plenty of upside as a rookie.

Joe Lombardi has been named Chargers OC. The 49-year-old and grandson of Vince Lombardi has had 2 stints with the Saints under Sean Payton, including the past 5 seasons as QB coach. In between, Lombardi spent 2 seasons as Lions OC in 2014 and 2015. Those teams both ranked in the bottom half of the league in total yards and points. The running games were anemic, headed by Ameer Abdullah, Joique Bell and Reggie Bush. But QB Matthew Stafford topped 4,200 yards both years with 54 total TDs. This seems like a solid hire for QB Justin Herbert and the Chargers passing game.
