Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
The Texans have placed EDGE Jonathan Greenard on IR with the calf injury he suffered in practice this week. He had already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Raiders. This means he'll miss at least the following 3 games as well. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Greenard is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. His absence should mean more playing time for veteran Mario Addison; perhaps starter Rasheem Green as well. Green's weekly snap shares have gone: 54%, 57%, 53% and 61%.
The Texans have ruled EDGE Jonathan Greenard (calf) out for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
HC Lovie Smith spoke highly of rookie S Jalen Pitre after Thursday night's preseason-closing win over the 49ers: “What we notice, is when you’re making a whole lot of big flash plays. Jalen has been consistent throughout. He’s a smart player. He’s been like a sponge as far as learning. But he’s going to be around the ball. That’s what we’ve seen since OTAs. I’m excited about going forward with him and him lining up for us when Indy comes into town.” Pitre brings the versatility to fill varied roles in the Houston defense, which could include plenty of snaps in the box. He's an upside pick late in deep-ish IDP drafts.
The Texans selected DB Jalen Pitre in the 2nd round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Pitre opened his Baylor career as a LB and continued to make his greatest contributions near the line of scrimmage. He racked up a ridiculous 29.5 tackles for loss (including 6 sacks) over the past 2 seasons while playing safety and slot corner, adding 4 INTs and 9 passes defensed. At just 5’11 and with near-average speed for the position, Pitre projects as primarily a box safety in the pros. Going to Houston in Round 2 should give him a good shot at starting right away.
The Texans took CB Derek Stingley with the 3rd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Stingley arguably enjoyed his best season as a freshman, when he snared 6 INTs and defensed 15 passes for the national-champion Tigers. Stingley seemed the regress the past 2 years. That span included losing 10 games to a torn ligament in his left foot last season. Stingley should be an immediate starter in Houston but doesn't project as a high-level IDP contributor.
Texans S Justin Reid came away from Sunday's loss to the 49ers with "slight" ankle and knee injuries, according to Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 in Houston. DE Jonathan Greenard also left the game with a shoulder injury. We'll see about the status for each player this week.
The Texans have placed DE Jonathan Greenard on the COVID list following a positive test. We'll see whether he has a shot to return for Sunday's game against the Chargers.
The Texans look likely to go without their top 2 LBs for Sunday’s game against the Jaguars. Christian Kirksey and Kamu Grugier-Hill have each tested positive for COVID. We’ll see whether either LB has a shot to return. Kevin Pierre-Louis and Neville Hewitt figure to lead the LB playing time if they dont
Texans S Justin Reid left Sunday's loss to the Seahawks with a concussion, HC David Culley confirmed after the game. CB Desmond King left the game for the same reason, but Culley said afterward that King did not actually sustain a concussion. So he should be ready for next Sunday's game at Jacksonville. Reid will need to pass through the league protocol before returning.
Texans LB Kamu Grugier-Hill left Sunday's game on a cart after suffering a right knee injury in the loss to the Seahawks. Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that early tests reveal a sprain, though, rather than a more severe injury as initially feared. That would likely mean further missed time for Grugier-Hill but isn't believed to be season-ending. We'll see about his official return timeline. LB Neville Hewitt saw elevated playing time in Grugier-Hill's absence and figures to start in his place going forward. The team, of course, waived LB Zach Cunningham, who is now with the Titans.
Texans DE Jonathan Greenard (foot) is active for today's game against the Seahawks. He's been playing through the foot issue for weeks and will be tough to sit in an upside sack matchup with Seattle.
Texans DE Jonathan Greenard is questionable for Sunday's game against the Seahawks with a foot injury that has lingered for weeks. Greenard saw his playing time dip last week to its lowest snap share since Week 5. Then his practice participation declined. Greenard went from 3 limited workouts last week to sandwiching a missed Thursday practice between 2 limited appearances this week. Even if he's active vs. Seattle, it's clear he's dealing with a limiting injury. We'll update his status Sunday morning.
Texans DE Jonathan Greenard (foot) is active for today's game against the Colts. He played through a questionable tag last week and should be in most IDP lineups. Houston made LB Zach Cunningham a healthy scratch, with Christian Kirksey back off IR. That clearly points to Kirksey regaining a full-time spot next to Kamu Grugier-Hill.
Texans DE Jonathan Greenard (foot) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts. He played through a questionable tag last week and put in limited practices throughout this week, so we'd bet on Greenard playing. We'll check his status Sunday morning.
The Texans this week designated LB Christian Kirksey to return from IR, and he has practiced with the team. If his repaired left thumb is ready for Sunday's game against the Colts, the returning starter would destabilize LB Zach Cunningham's role. Cunningham had sunk to a reserve spot behind Kirksey and Kamu Grugier-Hill before Kirksey's injury. We'll watch for whether Kirksey makes it back to the active roster.
Texans DE Jonathan Greenard (foot) is active for today's game against the Jets. he came in questionable after sandwiching 2 limited practices around a missed Thursday workout. Greenard figures to be somewhere short of 100%, thus adding some risk to him as an IDP option.
The Texans have made S Justin Reid a healthy scratch for today's game against the Jets. According to multiple reports, it's a disciplinary measure after Reid violated team rules. A.J. Moore looks like the fill-in for Reid. Eric Murray is the top IDP option in the Houston secondary, though.
Texans DE Jonathan Greenard (foot) isn't traveling with the team for Sunday's game at Tennessee and has been downgraded to out.
