George Kittle Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

49ers insider Eric Branch confirms that TE George Kittle (groin) is not expected to play vs. the Bears on Sunday. Kittle is listed as questionable but didn't practice all week after hurting his groin on Monday. Kittle should be on fantasy benches at this point. We'll see if we hear anything different on his Week 1 status.

49ers TE George Kittle (groin) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s opener vs. the Bears. He didn’t practice on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday after hurting his groin on Monday. But Kittle said Friday that he’s gotten “progressively better” and is still hoping he can play this weekend. We’ll see. Fantasy owners obviously need to have a backup plan in place.

Pro Football Network's Aaron Wilson hears that 49ers TE George Kittle's groin injury is "serious enough" that he's "unlikely" to play against the Bears this weekend. A source tells Wilson that Kittle is dealing with a Grade 2 strain and that "it would be optimal for him to rest and rehab for a week or two." It certainly makes sense for the 49ers to hold Kittle out of a game vs. Chicago that they can likely win without him. We've removed Kittle from the Week 1 Rankings for now and will continue to keep you updated on his status. Kittle's absence would be good news for the targets outlooks of WRs Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.

Niners TE George Kittle suffered a groin injury in Monday's practice that kept him from participating Wednesday, ESPN's Nick Wagoner reports. It's not yet clear whether the issue will keep Kittle from playing in Sunday's opener.

The Athletic's Matt Barrows believes the 49ers are looking for TE George Kittle to block less and be in pass routes more in 2022. "They want to free him to be a pass catcher more often and they want to keep him healthier/fresher than he’s been the last two seasons," Barrows writes, pointing to the addition of TE Tyler Kroft as a key to the plan. "Kittle certainly will have a sizeable blocking role, but with Kroft in the fold that role might not be as consuming as it was last season," says Barrows. More pass-catching work would obviously be good news for Kittle, who remains 1 of the league's most efficient TEs on a per-route basis.

49ers TE George Kittle -- along with LB Fred Warner -- is sitting out OTAs with what HC Kyle Shanahan called a "lower-half" issue. "Both have similar issues, so we’re being smart with them," Shanahan said. "Could go. Being smart. Good chance we’ll hold them out until training camp. ... They’ll be alright." It doesn't sound like this is something that'll impact Kittle's 2022 season, but we'll keep an eye on him when the 49ers open training camp.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo has a torn UCL along with a fracture in his right thumb. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport calls the latter injury a "chipped bone" and adds that Garoppolo is "going to try to gut it out, somehow" vs. the Texans on Sunday. We'll see how this week goes, but for now, we're expecting QB Trey Lance to get the Week 17 start. Lance's rushing ability gives him fantasy upside -- but he'd be a downgrade for Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle.

49ers TE George Kittle (knee) is not listed on the final injury report. He got Wednesday off but put in a limited practice on Thursday and a full practice on Friday. Keep Kittle glued into fantasy lineups for this weekend’s game vs. the Falcons.

49ers TE George Kittle (knee) returned to a limited practice on Thursday. It's confirmation that he's on track to play vs. the Falcons this weekend, despite sitting out on Wednesday with what HC Kyle Shanahan called "knee soreness." We'll update Kittle's status again on Friday afternoon.

49ers TE George Kittle was held out of Wednesday's practice with what HC Kyle Shanahan called "knee soreness." Shanahan didn't sound concerned, according to insider Kate Rooney, adding that he's looking to get Kittle a little extra rest with a Thursday night game coming in Week 16. Fantasy owners can keep Kittle penciled into starting lineups for now. We'll keep an eye on him over the next few days.

49ers WR Deebo Samuel (groin) is out for Sunday's game vs. the Seahawks. He's expected to miss 1-2 weeks, so we'll see if he can make it back for next weekend's game in Cincinnati. WR Brandon Aiyuk and TE George Kittle should dominate Niners targets with Samuel out.

49ers TE George Kittle (calf) is active for today’s game vs. the Cardinals. He’s been out since Week 4. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported this morning that Kittle is slated to play “roughly half the game.” We’re expecting him to be out there for most passing plays, though, and would feel comfortable getting Kittle into Week 9 fantasy lineups.

49ers TE George Kittle (calf) is expected to play today but will be on a "pitch count," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The plan is for Kittle to play "roughly half the game," Schefter adds. For perspective, Kittle played between 92-100% of San Francisco's offensive snaps in the first 4 games. Still, we'd expect him to be on the field for most, if not all, of the obvious passing situations. Consider him a lower-end TE1 with upside for Week 9.

The 49ers have activated TE George Kittle (calf) from IR, which should be the last step to him returning for Sunday's game against Arizona. HC Kyle Shanahan indicated earlier this week he didn't expect significant limitations to Kittle's role upon his return.

49ers insider Matt Maiocco confirms that TE George Kittle (calf) will be activated on Saturday and is on track to play vs. the Cardinals on Sunday. Kittle carries some added risk in his 1st action since Week 4. And Arizona ranks 2nd in adjusted fantasy points allowed to TEs. But Kittle is still a rock-solid TE1 with plenty of upside.

49ers TE George Kittle (calf) was designated to return from IR. He'll get back on the practice field this week and has a chance to play vs. the Cardinals on Sunday. We'll monitor his status over the next few days.

3:45pm EDT 10/16/21

The 49ers have placed TE George Kittle on IR for the calf injury that already had him doubtful against the Cardinals. With a Week 6 bye mixed in, Kittle now can’t return until Week 9 at the earliest. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Sam Francisco expects him to be ready then. We’ll see whether any Niners TE becomes fantasy viable in his absence. No Kittle should leave more target share for the WRs, though

49ers TE George Kittle (calf) is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game vs. the Cardinals. It’s a surprise after he played through the calf injury last week. The ‘Niners are holding out some hope that he’ll be able to play, but Kittle should be on fantasy benches for now. Ross Dwelley is San Francisco's backup TE.

49ers TE George Kittle (calf) missed practice again on Thursday. He was in the same boat at this time last week before putting in a limited practice on Friday and then playing his usual role on Sunday. We're fully expecting him to play vs. the Cardinals this weekend.
