D.K. Metcalf Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf (ribs) is active for today’s game vs. the Panthers. He was a full participant in Friday’s practice, so we’re expecting him to play his usual role today.

Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf (ribs) will play vs. the Panthers on Sunday, according to insider Jordan Schultz. Metcalf was a full participant in Friday's practice and should play his usual role tomorrow.

Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf (ribs) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Panthers. He was a full participant in Friday’s practice after sitting out the previous two days. Metcalf should play against Atlanta, but we should get another update on his status on Sunday morning.

Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf (ribs) missed his second straight practice on Thursday. HC Pete Carroll said earlier this week that he expected Metcalf to play vs. the Panthers on Sunday, but his status is worth checking back on tomorrow.

Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf (ribs) did not practice on Wednesday. Both he and HC Pete Carroll said that Metcalf will be available for this weekend's game vs. the Panthers. He can stay penciled into fantasy lineups, but we'll track his status over the next few days.

Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf suffered a rib injury in the first half of Sunday's game vs. the Lions and is questionable to return. We'll update his status when we know more.

Update: Metcalf returned to the game later in the first half

Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba is having surgery on his left wrist in Philadelphia on Tuesday after breaking a bone Saturday night against Dallas. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the rookie "still could have a chance to be ready for the start of the regular season." The team should know more about his return timeline after the surgery. We'll await that news before judging whether to move JSN in our 2023 PPR rankings.

Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf underwhelmed last year, finishing 24th among WRs in PPR points per game and 29th in non-PPR. Blame bad TD luck. Metcalf scored a career-low six times on a career-low 6.7% TD rate. He found the end zone on 13.4% of his receptions over his first three seasons. And it wasn't for lack of opportunity last year. Metcalf ranked second among WRs with 27 red-zone targets, sixth in targets inside the 10-yard line, and first in end-zone targets. He's a safe bet for more TDs in 2023 -- and potentially A LOT more TDs. We currently project Metcalf for 8.2 scores.

The Seahawks selected Ohio State WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba with the 20th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. JSN turned in one of the most impressive sophomore seasons we’ve ever seen back in 2021. He racked up 95 catches for 1,606 yards and nine TDs, out-producing both Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave while also beating those eventual first-round picks in yards per route run and Pro Football Focus receiving grade. A lingering hamstring injury limited Smith-Njigba to 60 total snaps this past year. But he was healthy enough to work out in the pre-draft process, where he posted elite marks in the 3-cone and short shuttle. That agility shows up on tape: JSN is impossible to stick with one-on-one and regularly adds yardage after the catch. Smith-Njibga has just-ok size (6’1, 196 lbs.) and speed (4.52-second 40 time), which puts a cap on his big-play upside. But he looks capable of quickly emerging as a high-volume target. Think Amon-Ra St. Brown. With the Seahawks, JSN will fit in as a day-one slot. Note that D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are signed through the 2025 season.

The Seahawks and QB Geno Smith have reportedly reached an agreement on a three-year, $105 million contract extension. The 32-year-old finished the 2022 NFL season with Pro Bowl honors and the Comeback Player of the Year Award after he spent several seasons serving as a backup. It'll be tough for Smith to maintain his fantasy production from last year (QB9 in points per game with 17.9), but this deal locks him in with the likes of WRs D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett for the foreseeable future. We've bumped up Smith to QB18 in our dynasty rankings as a result of this news. He'll be a quality QB2 in superflex leagues. As for Metcalf and Lockett, their dynasty values are relatively the same. Continuity at QB does eliminate some of the risk associated with Metcalf in dynasty formats if anything. We don't yet know the details of Smith's contract and if the Seahawks would be able to maneuver out of the deal should the franchise choose to explore younger options at the position. But for now, it's great news for a player with a great story.

Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf had a monster day in Saturday's Wild Card loss vs. the 49ers, posting 10 catches on 13 targets with 136 receiving yards and 2 TDs. Teammate WR Tyler Lockett ended the contest with 6 catches on 8 targets for 39 yards. The fantasy value of this pair of pass-catchers will be tied to the uncertainty surrounding the future of QB Geno Smith. Assuming Smith is brought back on a new contract, both Metcalf and Lockett will be top-20 considerations in drafts this summer.

Seahawks QB Geno Smith threw for just 215 yards on 25-of-40 passing in Saturday's loss to the Chiefs, with 1 TD and 1 INT. His 74.5 passer rating was his lowest mark of the year. WR D.K. Metcalf led the receiving with 7 catches for 81 yards on 9 targets. RB DeeJay Dallas checked in next by catching all 6 of his targets for 32 yards. WR Marquise Goodwin went catch-less among 4 targets. TE Noah Fant caught the team's only TD among 2 receptions for 12 yards. Seattle might get better weather in Week 17 but will face a much tougher defense in the Jets.

Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett will undergo surgery to repair his fractured finger, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "It's possible he only misses one game and is back for the final two," Rapoport adds. "But a firm timetable will be available post-surgery." We'll keep you update on Lockett's rehab and timeline for return. His absence next weekend will leave Marquise Goodwin as Seattle's #2 WR -- and leave potential targets for WR D.K. Metcalf and TE Noah Fant.

Seahawks QB Geno Smith struggled through most of Sunday's loss to the Panthers, including a pair of INTs. He nearly tossed a 3rd, but CB Jaycee Horn narrowly missed getting a 2nd foot down in bounds. Smith did wind up with a solid 264 yards and 3 TDs passing, the last coming with just 16 seconds to go and his team down 13. Seattle's top 3 WRs all scored, with Marquise Goodwin posting the top line: 5-95-1 on 6 targets. D.K. Metcalf went for 5-71-1 on a team-high 10 targets. Tyler Lockett caught 5 balls for 60 yards and a TD, marking his 6th straight game with a score. Seattle hosts a tough 49ers defense on Thursday night.

Lockett delivered 9-128-1 receiving on a team-high 12 targets. Metcalf added 8-127-1 on 8 targets. TE Noah Want claimed the 3rd of Smith's TD throws, catching 4 balls for 42 yards in all. Week 14 holds a decent matchup with the Panthers.
