Panthers HC Dave Canales was asked about RB Jonathon Brooks earlier this week and highlighted his ability in the passing game. "JB has looked great, in the run game, certainly, but also in the pass game," Canales said. "Half of his highlights coming out of college were screen passes, wides, things down the field. He has a great ability to catch the ball, track it, and transition once he catches it. Just finding different packages and ways to get him involved in the offense, and he’s looked great so far."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
Brooks averaged 2.5 catches and 29 receiving yards per game in his final college season, ranking 21st in yards per route and 12th in Pro Football Focus receiving grade among 112 qualifying RBs.
His primary backfield competition in 2026, Chuba Hubbard, has been one of the least efficient pass-catching RBs in the league. Among 80 RBs with 50+ catches over the last five seasons, Hubbard ranks:
- 65th in yards per catch
- 61st in yards per target
So there's a clear path for Brooks to claim primary pass-catching duties in this backfield right away. If he pairs that with a decent-sized ball-carrying role, he could quickly emerge as a RB3 or Flex option for fantasy squads.
Brooks could pay off his RB45 ADP without even taking the lead job from Hubbard.
