Buy the Vikings offense
Minnesota is coming off an underwhelming performance in London and now has a Week 6 bye. That could you give an opportunity to buy pieces of this offense.
The Vikings come out of their off week with this string of matchups:
- vs. Lions
- at Rams
- vs. Colts
- at Jaguars
Here’s where the Vikings rank in strength of schedule at each position over those four weeks:
- QBs: easiest
- RBs: sixth-easiest
- WRs: easiest
- TEs: eighth-easiest
QB Sam Darnold and WR Jordan Addison are the cleanest buys on Minnesota right now. Darnold will be a viable QB1 in each of those next four games; Addison a WR3 with upside.
TE T.J. Hockenson carries more risk coming off the ACL tear. He has a chance to debut in Week 7 but likely won’t be a full-time player for at least a couple of weeks beyond that. Still, with this offense humming, Hockenson could be a top-5 fantasy TE over the second half of the season.
Finally, consider sending a godfather offer for WR Justin Jefferson. He sits third among WRs in total PPR points but has felt a tad underwhelming, with no weekly PPR finish better than WR9. But Jefferson is still dominating targets with a 31% target share and has as good a chance as any WR to lead in fantasy points from Week 7 on.
Stash Kendre Miller
Kevin mentioned this one two weeks ago in this space. And then we highlighted Miller in each of the past two waiver wire articles. Yet he’s still available in:
- 85% of CBS leagues
- 86% of Sleeper leagues
- 91% of ESPN leagues
- 93% of Yahoo leagues
Miller has done nothing yet this season other than be hurt (again). But he has now logged three straight full practices (as of Thursday morning) and might be on track to return this Sunday.
If Miller plays he’ll return to an already run-favoring offense piloted by a rookie QB making his first NFL start. Sounds like fertile ground for even more RB work.
Stashing Miller now instead of waiting is at least as much about opportunity cost as upside. You can likely get him off first-come, first-served waivers this week – or at least for a minimal bid.
That’ll quickly change the first time he does anything of note in a game. And he’s an Alvin Kamara injury away from being a hot waiver topic.
Add WR Xavier Hutchinson
If you are in a deep league or have an extra roster spot, take a chance on Texans WR Xavier Hutchinson as a potential sleeper over the next few weeks.
He is barely owned in any fantasy league, no matter the format or platform.
Nico Collins was surprisingly placed on IR this week due to a hamstring injury he suffered in the first quarter of Week 5. He will be replaced by Hutchinson, a second-year player selected in the sixth round.
Collins primarily plays the 'X' WR role which is the focal point of the Shanahan offense. OC Bobby Slowik comes from that coaching tree and we have seen Collins thrive so far in the role.
Hutchinson replaced Collins almost wholesale after the injury, playing 37 of his 48 offensive snaps out wide as the 'X.' He caught two of three targets for 31 yards.
He also played more snaps in the game than Tank Dell.
Though Hutchinson was a late-round NFL Draft pick, he was a Biletnikoff Award finalist in college and put up big numbers at Iowa State.
Though he won’t replicate Collins’ NFL-leading numbers, there may be enough targets for Hutchison to have a WR3 game or two while Collins is out.
