An extension for TE Trey McBride is "high on the Arizona Cardinals' to-do list this offseason," per ESPN's Josh Weinfuss. No surprise there. McBride set clear career highs in 2024 with 147 targets, 111 catches, and 1,146 yards. 2025 is currently set to be a contract season.
Here’s HC Jonathan Gannon’s take on the young TE (via ESPN).
"He's working on different parts of his game, but I think just keep doing what he's doing and keep improving in all parts of his game because he's not a one-trick pony," Gannon said.
"He can block in the run game. He can beat you on the first, second and third levels. Run after the catch. I think that's elite from him. "The mental part of the game, I think he can take strides, which we've talked about. In the physical part of the game, I think he can take strides. He's got a lot of good ball in him left so glad we have him. Obviously, he's a premier player for us, and I'm excited about moving forward."
Here’s McBride on his contract.
"That stuff will kind of take care of itself when the time comes for that," McBride said, "but, right now, I'm just focused on the next day and what I can do to get healthy going into this offseason."
Note that McBride missed one game in 2024 (concussion).
At only 25, McBride should be entering his prime.
In 2024, he finished as the TE2 in total fantasy points. And that was with only 3 TDs (2 receiving) -- a silly-low 1.8% TD rate.
We'll see if Arizona adds an impact WR2 this offseason. They certainly have the cap space to make a splash, but WR may not be a huge priority with the defense turning up several holes.
Regardless, McBride is positioned to perform as a high-end TE1 for the foreseeable future.
Quinshon Judkins’ early breakout, combined with his size and speed, gives him the profile of an elite fantasy prospect — but red flags in his metrics warrant closer scrutiny.
