The Saints and RB Alvin Kamara agreed on a two-year, $24.5 million extension, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Kamara was likely to hit free agency this offseason but is now signed with New Orleans through the 2026 campaign. There had been some talk of a Kamara trade recently, but this new deal puts that to bed.
Kamara got off to a hot start this season, finishing as a top-15 PPR RB in each of his first four outings. He's cooled off as the Saints' offense has crumbled around him the past three weeks, ranking 22nd, 17th, and 32nd among RBs in PPR points.
Kamara continues to control carries in New Orleans' backfield and is tied for the lead at his position with 43 targets. That keeps him as a borderline RB1 in fantasy lineups for now. If the Saints can get healthy and bounce back as an offense, Kamara could still have some big games over the second half of the season.
Kamara will be 31 when this new deal expires, so it's possible this is the last contract he signs. He's in clear decline as a runner but is still a capable and heavily used pass-catcher. That skill set could keep him relevant in PPR leagues for another couple of seasons.
Kamara is a fine asset for contending dynasty teams but an obvious sell for teams in rebuilding mode.
