Jets WR Davante Adams wasn’t limited in his first game with the Jets. Coming off a hamstring strain, the veteran played 55 snaps and ran 39 routes – only one fewer than Garrett Wilson. Still, Adams caught only 33% of his targets in Sunday’s blowout loss to Pittsburgh.
Aaron Rodgers targeted Adams on his first pass, but it was dropped. A poor connection took over from there, as Adams finished with a -42.2% completion rate over expected, per Next Gen Stats.
Adams at least looked fully healthy. His average separation of 3.7 yards led all Jets WRs, per NGS. And you still have to be encouraged by his 9 targets, which tied Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson for the team lead.
Adams’ play should improve as he settles into the New York offense, so keep him in lineups for a Week 8 matchup with New England. They entered the weekend 27th in pass defense DVOA.
Garrett Wilson dropped a downfield pass from Aaron Rodgers, one that turned into a near pick-six. Still, his 9 targets (23%) should be considered a win alongside Adams.
The Jets’ defensive injuries might force more pass-tilted game scripts in the weeks ahead. Week 8 turns up an improved New England passing game, followed by a meeting with a solid Houston offense.
