Chargers RB J.K. Dobbins posted 98 yards, 1 TD, and a season-high 25 carries in Sunday's win over Denver. Previously, he hadn't topped 17 rush attempts this season. Note that Gus Edwards missed this one with an ankle injury.
Dobbins was impressed by rookie Kimani Vidal's NFL debut. Here's what he said in a postgame interview:
"I was just telling him: 'Man, don't let your opportunity pass you by.' ... I see greatness in him. He will be a great back."
Edwards was one of the league’s least effective RBs prior to landing on IR. The Chargers plugged in Vidal as the RB2, and he impressed with a downfield TD catch. Still, he he trailed Dobbins in snaps (57-18), routes (18-10), targets (3-2) and carries (25-4).
Vidal has the ability to earn more work as the season progresses, but for now, Dobbins remains the clear lead back.
Next up is a friendly matchup vs. Arizona, followed by a Saints defense that was just ripped apart by the Bucs.
