Patriots HC Jerod Mayo said Friday that RB Rhamondre Stevenson will not start this weekend's game vs. the Dolphins. That honor will presumably go to RB Antonio Gibson. Stevenson has fumbled once in all four of New England's games so far this season.
Mayo: “Had a conversation with Rhamondre [Stevenson] and he won’t be starting … I’ll be upfront and transparent. But he will play. And he understands he has to protect the football going forward."
All this tells us for sure is that Stevenson won't be on the field for the Patriots' first offensive play of Sunday's game. Of course, it likely means that he'll cede significantly more work to Gibson than he has over the first four games. Gibson might even be the favorite to lead in touches this weekend.
The uncertainty leaves both guys as risk/reward RB3 or Flex plays this week. The matchup is at least favorable against a Dolphins team that ranks 26th in run defense DVOA and 25th in adjusted fantasy points allowed to RBs.
