Panthers WR Adam Thielen suffered a hamstring injury during the Panthers' win against the Raiders. The team is placing him on injured reserve, meaning Thielen will miss at least the next four games, eligible to return for Week 8's contest against the Denver Broncos.
Ian Rapoport from NFL.com: "Source: The Panthers are placing WR Adam Thielen on Injured Reserve because of the hamstring injury he suffered on Sunday. But Thielen is expected back sooner rather than later."
Thielen had five targets in the first half of QB Andy Dalton's first game as the starter this season.
Despite being 34 years old, he was on his way to being a significant contributor for the team due to the offense throwing the ball with more success.
This puts a stop to Thielen's momentum and shifts his targets to the rest of the WR group.
WR Diontae Johnson already drew 14 targets in the Raiders' game, and he will remain the focal point of the offense moving forward with Thielen on the sidelines.
Expect Johnson to be a consistent producer and have even more scoring opportunities.
To replace Thielen directly, rookie WR Xavier Legette will likely see his 59% snap count increase along with WR Jonathan Mingo who had a 66% snap count.
