49ers RB Christian McCaffrey is seeing a specialist in Germany about his lingering Achilles tendinitis, HC Kyle Shanahan said Monday. "Those treatments likely involve therapies designed to increase blood flow — and thus the healing process — in his sore Achilles," The Athletic's Matt Barrows writes.
McCaffrey has had trouble shaking this Achilles issue, and now he's heading outside of the United States in search of help.
Former NFL head team Dr. David Chao notes that there are "platelet-rich plasma-type injections in Germany that are not legal in the United States." Chao adds that, "this indicates a boot and a period of immobilization that is likely to extend beyond the four-week IR."
Ouch.
McCaffrey is out at least another two games on IR, and it sounds like fantasy owners should be prepping for him to miss more time beyond that. The 49ers' bye week is not until Week 9.
