Colts QB Anthony Richardson accounted for 3 total TDs in Sunday's close loss to the Texans. He tallied a key 6-56-1 rushing and 212-2-1 passing on just 9 completions.
After the loss, HC Shane Steichen commented on the shaky passing day from Richardson.
“Like I’ve said guys, he’s going to miss some throws, just like all these quarterbacks in the league will miss some throws,’’ Steichen said. “But we’ll get them cleaned up.’’
The second-year QB missed rookie AD Mitchell for what would have been a pair of TDs.
It wasn't all bad for Richardson, of course. He uncorked the best throw of Week 1 -- a 60-yard TD to Alec Pierce in the first quarter.
“There’s not many guys that can do that,’’ Steichen said about the throw, which traveled roughly 64 air yards.
Richardson's passing efficiency remains a work in progress. He completed only 47.3% of his passes, but it came against a talented Houston defense. Note that he played this game without slot WR Josh Downs, too.
As that part of his game develops, it's comforting to know he can deliver top-end numbers on the ground. Recall that in 2023, he scored 4 TDs in less than four full games.
He'll remain a no-doubt QB1 for Sunday's road matchup at Green Bay.
