Chiefs WR Marquise Brown (shoulder) will not play in the Thursday night opener against the Ravens, HC Andy Reid said. Brown suffered an S/C joint injury to his shoulder on August 10 and was expected to miss 4-6 weeks. We're just three weeks into that timeline, so he was always expected to miss the opener.
We've had Brown projected to miss Week 1 since we got that 4-6 week timeline. It's a little worrisome, though, that Reid has ruled him out so early. That makes it seem more likely that Brown misses additional games. If he takes the full six weeks to make it back, Brown would miss the Chiefs' first three games.
We're removing another game from Brown's projections, knocking him down the WR rankings.
Brown's absence should ensure a full-time role for WR Xavier Worthy right out of the gate. The explosive rookie has a great opportunity to build some early-season momentum.
Justin Watson is the leading candidate to operate as Kansas City's No. 3 WR while Brown is out, but he'd be a desperation fantasy play.
