Saints HC Dennis Allen talked up RB Alvin Kamara in OC Klint Kubiak's new offensive system for the Saints that they will put him in a position to succeed both as a runner and as a receiver.
Darrion Gray from Saints Wire: "Kamara is one of the best players on the offense and has to be put into position to succeed. Allen says he feels, 'this system that we’re going to operate in I think is going to really benefit him.' We hand him a wide zone (run) going to our left and it looked like real football.”
Kamara enters his 29-year old season after dealing with a suspension and ankle injury last season. Despite missing four games, Kamara was second among RBs in targets (86) and receptions (75) under OC Pete Carmichael.
Allen's comments appears to commit to Kamara as the main focal point of the offense once again as both a receiver and a runner under Kubiak, who previously worked as the passing game coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers.
Kamara may get a similar treatment to Christian McCaffrey who Kubiak worked with last season.
Keep an eye on further news about Kamara's role. He is approaching an age cliff, but Derek Carr's tendency to dump off should still lead to good receiving numbers from Kamara.
