Commanders HC Dan Quinn named QB Jayden Daniels the Week 1 starter. As expected. Daniels, 23, becomes the second rookie QB in franchise history to start the opener (Robert Griffin III).
HC Dan Quinn: “He didn’t miss a beat…he hit the targets we put in front of him…he’s ready and he’s earned the right. He’s really put in the work.”
Quinn also called Washington’s QB room “special.” Marcus Mariota will enter Week 1 as the backup.
Throughout camp, onlookers continuously praised Daniels' ability to run and throw.
Now through two preseason games, the former LSU star has tallied 123 yards on 12 of 15 passing. He’s scored once on the ground.
Sure, there are some pass-catcher questions beyond WR Terry McLaurin. Washington's O-line might prove league-average at best, too. But you're drafting Daniels for his explosive rushing upside -- one that brings top-five fantasy potential if things break right.
See where Daniels sits in our 2024 fantasy QB rankings.
Daniels turns 24 in December -- older for a rookie. But there's plenty of long-term appeal here -- especially once Washington develops its pass-catching unit.
He's the current QB9 in our dynasty QB rankings.
