The Jaguars and QB Trevor Lawrence agreed to a five-year, $275 million contract extension with $200 million guaranteed, ESPN reports. Lawrence now ranks second in the NFL in average annual salary and fourth in guaranteed money. The extension tacks on to the final two years of his current contract, meaning that Lawrence is now signed with the Jaguars through the 2030 season. He'll be 32 when the deal expires.
Getting this contract done can't be bad news for Lawrence's focus this season. He's coming off a QB15 finish in fantasy points per game. He ranked top 10 in attempts, completions, and passing yards -- but tied for just 15th in TDs.
Lawrence's 3.7% TD rate last year ranked 20th among 29 qualifying QBs. That's been a theme of his career so far. Lawrence's 3.3% passing TD rate over the last three seasons ranks 27th out of 30 qualifiers.
He should have positive TD regression coming. Jacksonville adding size to its WR corps this offseason with Brian Thomas Jr. (6'3) and Gabe Davis (6'2) should help.
Lawrence checks in at QB15 in the 2024 fantasy football rankings.
Continuity is generally good news for dynasty value, so this contract extension is a win for Lawrence. Although he's been a bit underwhelming through three seasons -- finishing 32nd, 11th, and 15th among QBs in fantasy points per game -- Lawrence is still only 24 and now heads into his third season with HC Doug Pederson.
The Jaguars have WR Christian Kirk and TE Evan Engram signed through 2025, WR Gabe Davis signed through 2026, and WR Brian Thomas Jr. signed through 2027 (with an option for 2028).
Lawrence sits 14th in the dynasty QB rankings -- and is less than one 3D+ value point outside the top 12.
