The 49ers and RB Christian McCaffrey have agreed to a two-year extension averaging $19 million per year, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. It makes McCaffrey the league's highest-paid RB and keeps him signed with San Francisco through the 2027 season. McCaffrey will be 31 when this deal expires.
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
McCaffrey had previously been signed with the 49ers through the 2025 season, so there's no 2024 impact here. McCaffrey remains the clear-cut No. 1 RB in the 2024 fantasy football rankings.
Dynasty Impact
McCaffrey's longer-term dynasty value gets a boost with this extension. He's now locked in with offensive guru Kyle Shanahan for another four seasons.
McCaffrey has averaged 23.6 PPR points across 33 games with the 49ers (including playoffs). That's up from 22.4 points per game with the Panthers.
The new deal is also a signal that the 49ers expect multiple more seasons of elite production from McCaffrey, despite the fact that he's about to turn 28.
The numbers back up that belief. McCaffrey notably set career highs last year in yards after contact per attempt, missed tackles forced per attempt, and Pro Football Focus rushing grade. He ranked top 11 among 49 qualifying RBs in all three metrics.
McCaffrey checks in fifth among RBs and 13th overall in the updated dynasty rankings.
