Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
49ers TE George Kittle (calf) missed his 2nd straight practice on Thursday. The team hasn't expressed much concern about his status for this weekend's game vs. Seattle, but we've certainly got our eye on the situation. We'll see if Kittle practices Friday -- and then how he's listed on the final injury report.
49ers TE George Kittle (calf) missed Wednesday's practice. HC Kyle Shanahan said Kittle's calf is sore but that he "should be ok" for Sunday's game vs. the Seahawks. We'll get another update on Kittle's status tomorrow.
49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) returned to a limited practice on Wednesday. That gives him a chance to play vs. the Seahawks this weekend. It was clear San Francisco didn't fully trust RB Trey Sermon in Week 3, so we're expecting a healthy Mitchell to re-emerge as the 49ers' lead back.
Panthers HC Matt Rhule said the team is "optimistic" RB Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) will miss 3 games, according to insider Joe Person. McCaffrey hasn't been placed on IR, so Carolina must think there's at least a chance he's back before Week 7. But it sounds like our expectation should be that he misses the next 3 games vs. the Cowboys, Eagles and Vikings. We'll get our 1st look at the McCaffrey-less backfield on Sunday. We're projecting RB Chuba Hubbard to produce RB2 numbers with RB1 upside.
Panthers HC Matt Rhule confirmed Monday that RB Christian McCaffrey won't be going to IR with his hamstring injury. That means the team believes there's at least a reasonable chance he's ready by Week 6. We'll keep you updated on his rehab progress.
49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) is inactive for tonight’s game vs. the Packers. That leaves Trey Sermon, Trenton Cannon, Kerryon Johnson and Jacques Patrick as San Francisco’s active RBs. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported this morning that Sermon will get the "bulk of carries" tonight.
Chiefs CB Charvarius Ward (quad) is inactive for today's game against the Chargers. Kansas City will also be without DE Frank Clark, who was doubtful after sustaining a hamstring injury in practice this week.
Niners CB Emmanuel Moseley (knee), DE Arik Armstead (adductor) and DT Javon Kinlaw (knee) are questionable for Sunday night's game against the Packers. Armstead and Kinlaw played through questionable tags in Week 2. Moseley has yet to play this season.
Chiefs CB Charvarius Ward is questionable for Sunday's game against the Chargers with a quad strain. Ward didn't show up on the injury report until Friday, when he missed practice entirely. So the injury must have occurred near the end of Thursday's workout. Ward sits too low in the DB rankings to be worth trusting through an injury question even if active.
49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) is listed as doubtful for Sunday night's game against the Packers. Early-week reports made his injury sound relatively minor, but it looks like he'll miss at least 1 game. We'll see if he can make it back for Week 4.
Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) is expected to miss "a few weeks," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Carolina isn't planning to put McCaffrey on IR "as of now," Rapoport adds. Hopefully we get a more concrete timeline -- but if McCaffrey doesn't land on IR, that means the team expects him to miss no more than 2 weeks. It's looking like CMC avoided a serious injury.
49ers GM John Lynch called RB Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) "very questionable" for Sunday night's game against the Packers. We'll see if Mitchell does anything in practice later today -- and then how he's listed on the final injury report. RB Trey Sermon's Week 3 status is also up in the air with his concussion. Trenton Cannon and Jacques Patrick are the only healthy RBs on San Francisco's active roster. RB Kerryon Johnson is a potential practice-squad callup.
Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey is scheduled for testing on his injured hamstring on Friday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. So we should get an idea of how long CMC will be out later today. Per Rapoport, McCaffrey was quickly ruled out of last night's game because he "could not push off at all on that hamstring." McCaffrey owners should be bracing for a multi-game absence, but we'll pass along more info as soon as we have it. After McCaffrey exited the Texans game, RB Chuba Hubbard out-snapped RB Royce Freeman 38 to 11. Hubbard is the priority add on waiver wires, but Freeman is worth a stash in most leagues, too.
Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey suffered a hamstring injury in the 2nd quarter of Thursday night's game vs. the Texans and was quickly ruled out. That suggests a relatively serious injury. We'll update McCaffrey's status as soon as we learn more. RB Chuba Hubbard looks like the next man up for Carolina. RB Royce Freeman is also on the roster.
49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) missed his 2nd straight practice on Thursday. His injury supposedly isn't serious, so Mitchell might still have a chance to play vs. the Packers on Sunday night. But the missed practice time is a concern for a rookie. We'll see what he's able to do tomorrow.
Niners HC Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday that he hoped RB Elijah Mitchell's shoulder injury was merely a stinger but that it's actually a "little worse," according to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. "He's got a chance" to play in Week 3, Shanahan added. We'll have to track Mitchell's progress through the week. The other injuries around the San Francisco backfield make it tough to know right now what the succession plan would be if Mitchell's out.
49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) did not practice on Wednesday. His injury isn't believed to be serious, but Mitchell shouldn't be considered a lock to play vs. the Packers on Sunday night. We'll get another update on his status tomorrow.
49ers HC Kyle Shanahan labeled RB Elijah Mitchell "day to day" with the shoulder injury he suffered in Sunday's win over the Eagles. That makes Mitchell the healthiest of the 3 RBs who were active for San Francisco in Week 2. We'll keep an eye on the backfield this week. If he's able to play vs. the Packers on Sunday night, Mitchell should operate as the 49ers' lead back.
49ers RB Elijah Mitchell left Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury. Beat writers observed Mitchell getting his shoulder looked at by team trainers. With only 8 minutes remaining, we’ll see if he returns to the field.
UPDATE: Mitchell returned late in the 4th.
Niners DE Arik Armstead (adductor) and DT Javon Kinlaw (knee) are active for today's game against the Eagles. Each player entered the day questionable. Their presence obviously helps, though it's still not a worrisome matchup for QB Jalen Hurts or RB Miles Sanders.
