Los Angeles Chargers Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Chargers S Derwin James appears set to return from his injured hamstring. He put in full practices Thursday and Friday, ahead of Monday night's game against the Cowboys. We'd bet on James carrying no injury designation on the final report, but we'll see what the team says tomorrow.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert (left finger) was a full participant in Thursday's practice. It's confirmation that he'll play vs. the Cowboys on Monday night after fracturing a finger on his left hand prior to the Week 5 bye. Considering it's his non-throwing hand, we're not expecting the injury to be a factor.

Texans LB Denzel Perryman (hand) put in a full practice Wednesday. He missed the past two games but appears to be on track to play this week against the Falcons. Perryman should return to most IDP lineups if active.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert suffered a fractured finger and a "gruesome nail injury" on his left hand in Sunday's win over the Raiders, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That's Herbert's non-throwing hand. He now gets a Week 5 bye and "should not miss time," per Rapoport.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport doesn't expect Chargers QB Justin Herbert's left hand injury to be a "major issue going forward." Herbert was able to return to the Week 4 game vs. the Raiders with his hand taped and his middle finger in a splint. He now gets a well-timed Week 5 bye to heal up. We'll look for further updates on his status, but don't expect Herbert to miss time with this injury.

Chargers WR Quentin Johnston posted just 1 catch for 18 yards in Week 4. Johnston garnered an end zone target and a deep target, but both plays were near-misses broken up by the DB. On the day, the rookie ran 22 routes -- thrid on the team behind Josh Palmer (30) and Keenan Allen (30). Johnston wil remain a low-floor fantasy option following a Week 5 bye.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert got his left hand caught in a Raider helmet after throwing an INT in the third quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Raiders. He was bleeding and taken into the medical tent. We'll update Herbert's status when we know more. At least it was Herbert's non-throwing hand.

Update: Herbert has returned with his left hand heavily taped and his middle finger in a splint.

Panthers TE Hayden Hurst played a season-low 51.4% of snaps in Sunday's loss to the Vikings. It was his third game of 55% or less through four weeks, marking a downturn vs. his season high 61% in Week 4. Hurst did run a route on 65% of QB Bryce Young's dropbacks, in line with his passing-game involvement the previous three games. But fellow TE Tommy Tremble played a season-high 43.1% of snaps, including a season-high route rate. TE Ian Thomas also set season highs in playing time and pass routes. Hurst remained the lead receiving option among Carolina TEs, but he's not getting used at a high enough level to start in fantasy outside of deep leagues. He's even droppable in many spots.

Ravens RB Gus Edwards carried the ball 15 times for 48 yards in Week 4's win over the Browns. Teammate Justice Hill saw very little involvement in this contest, seeing just 3 carries for 33 yards and a goose egg in the receiving column. Perhaps his toe injury still bothers him, but Hill losing that much work to Edwards is a red flag. It's worth mentioning that rookie RB Keaton Mitchell is eligible to come off IR next week. He's a smaller change-of-pace back that performed very well for the Ravens in the preseason. Given Hill's fading opportunities, Mitchell might be a name to consider stashing in deeper formats. Next week, the Ravens will go on the road to face the Steelers.

Chargers S Alohi Gilman (heel) is inactive for today's game against the Raiders. That leaves the Chargers down both starting safeties, plus reserve JT Woods. That should leave Raheem Layne and Dean Marlowe as the starters. Marlowe has started games for the Bills, Lions, and Falcons and would be the pickup if you need a late DB starter.

Chargers Edge Joey Bosa is questionable for Sunday's game against the Raiders. He entered each of the previous two games the same way and still played, albeit for limited snaps. But Bosa this week adds a toe injury to the hamstring that limited him the previous two. He missed practice all week and looks like a high-risk IDP bet even if active. Rookie Edge Tuli Tuipulotu, meanwhile, has garnered 77% playing time the past two games and delivered a sack in each. He racked up 4 QB hits in last Sunday's win over the Vikings. Tulipulotu looks like a good bet for similar playing time this week against a shaky Raiders O-line and probably backup QB Brian Hoyer. That makes the rookie an attractive play in Week 4 IDP lineups. We've moved him up our Week 4 DL rankings and Bosa down.

The Chargers list S Derwin James (hamstring) as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Raiders. The team has also rule backup S JT Woods out. That seems to leave second-year S Raheem Layne as the fill-in. Layne has played just 27 total snaps so far in the NFL. We’re not projecting him for Week 4. We did give Chargers S Alohi Gilman a slight boost in projected tackles. Check out our updated Week 4 DB rankings.

Ravens RB Gus Edwards (concussion) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. Barring a setback, he should be cleared in time for this weekend's game vs. the Browns. RB Justice Hill (foot) remained sidelined on Wednesday. His absence on Sunday would again leave Melvin Gordon as Baltimore's No. 2 RB.

Chargers S Derwin James left Sunday's win over the Vikings with a hamstring injury. After the game, James called it "nothing major, nothing to be concerned about," according to The Athletic's Daniel Popper. James also said he'll know more after a Monday MRI. We'll see what the testing reveals.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert went 40 for 47 passing in Sunday's win over the Vikings, racking up 405 yards and 3 TDs. (WR Keenan Allen threw for the team's other TD.) L.A. dropped back on 75.8% of offensive plays, clearly committing to the pass from the start. Herbert had 30 pass attempts by halftime, vs. seven total run plays for the team in that time. Look for this team to continue leaning pass going forward, though likely not to the degree most weeks that it did against the Vikings.

Ravens RB Gus Edwards carried the ball 11 times for 51 yards before leaving Week 3 with a concussion. Teammate Melvin Gordon III came in relief to record 32 yards on 10 carries. The Edwards injury was a big blow to Baltimore, a team that was already without RB Justice Hill due to a foot injury. Fantasy managers will have to keep an eye on the injury reports this week to see who is healthy enough to suit up in Week 4 vs. the Browns.

Ravens RB Gus Edwards left to get checked for a concussion in the second half of Sunday's game vs. the Colts. That leaves the backfield to Melvin Gordon and Kenyan Drake. We'll update Edwards' status when we know more.

Seahawks TE Will Dissly (shoulder) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Panthers. His absence is a slight boost to TE Noah Fant.

Chargers Edge Joey Bosa (hamstring) is active for today's game against the Vikings. He played through the injury last week as well. Bosa saw his playing time significantly limited in that contest but still delivered 2 sacks. He belongs in most IDP lineups.

Seahawks TE Will Dissly (shoulder) is listed as doubtful for this weekend’s game vs. the Panthers. He’s seen just five targets through two weeks, so there’s minimal fantasy impact here.
