Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
Patriots WRs JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion) and Demario Douglas (concussion) are out for Sunday’s game vs. the Raiders. WR Tyquan Thornton (shoulder) is listed as questionable. We’ll see if Thornton is ready to make his 2023 debut, but DeVante Parker and Kendrick Bourne will serve as New England’s top two WRs this weekend.
Patriots WR Tyquan Thornton (shoulder) has been designated to return from IR. He'll practice this week and is eligible to play on Sunday vs. the Raiders. New England could use Thornton with WRs JuJu Smith-Schuster and Demario Douglas in concussion protocol. But Thornton showed nothing last year or this offseason to make him a legitimate fantasy option right now.
Patriots WR Tyquan Thornton (shoulder) has been placed on IR. He'll miss at least the first four weeks of the season. The second-year receiver was sidelined during the spring with a soft-tissue injury and then hurt his shoulder in mid-August. He's not worth rostering in redraft. JuJu Smith-Schuster, DeVante Parker, Kendrick Bourne, and Demario Douglas figure to open the season as New England's top four WRs.
Patriots WR Tyquan Thornton is a “candidate” for injured reserve, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss. Thornton hasn’t practiced since August 17, when he landed hard on his shoulder in a joint practice with Green Bay. Reiss didn't hint at a season-ending injury, but Thornton certainly comes with added risk. New England looks set to enter Week 1 with JuJu Smith-Schuster and DeVante Parker as the top-2 WRs.
Patriots WR Tyquan Thornton missed Saturday night's preseason game with what's believed to be a shoulder injury. "He's doing fine. It's a week-to-week situation," a source told The Boston Globe's Christopher Price. Thornton can't afford the missed reps. He was sidelined for part of the spring with a soft-tissue injury and has been out-played by rookie WR Demario Douglas in camp. At this point, Thornton is well off the redraft fantasy radar. We'll let you know when he returns from this latest injury.
Patriots insider Alex Barth believes, based on Sunday's practice, that Tyquan Thornton might be in a battle for the fourth WR spot with rookie Demario Douglas. Barth notes that WRs JuJu Smith-Schuster, DeVante Parker, Kendrick Bourne, and Douglas worked with QB Mac Jones in positional drills early in the practice. And when the Patriots moved to team drills, Thornton and Douglas split reps evenly with the first-team offense. "This could be a sign of a true position battle, with the two proving to see who is the better option as the fourth wide receiver and main speed threat in the group," Barth writes. We'll keep an eye on the situation, but neither Thornton nor Douglas are recommended fantasy picks right now.
Patriots WR Tyquan Thornton has not appeared limited in training camp so far, according to insider Alex Barth. Thornton missed time in the spring with a soft-tissue injury, but that looks to be behind him. The 2022 second-round pick has an opportunity to carve out a significant role in a New England passing game that could certainly use his speed.
The Athletic’s Chad Graff believes New England’s WRs corps “seems only marginally better than last year’s.” Graff calls DeVante Parker an “x-factor” but admits he’s “not sold yet” on Tyquan Thornton. He also questions the contract given to JuJu Smith-Schuster because of his injury history. Kendrick Bourne, meanwhile, isn’t considered a roster lock. (Yeah, it’s pretty clear why the Pats pursued DeAndre Hopkins.) We’ll monitor this unit come training camp. The chemistry between JuJu and Mac Jones is something to really focus on, as the 26-year-old missed most of the spring with a knee issue.
Per ESPN's Mike Reiss, the Patriots are being "cautious" with WR JuJu Smith-Schuster. Reiss signaled that the move stems from JuJu's knee injury in the AFC Championship game. New England is also looking to get 2nd-year WR Tyquan Thornton back to 100% following a "soft-tissue-related injury." We'll keep an eye on both players as training camp nears. Thornton, given his elite speed profile, remains worthy of a late best ball pick. Just note: DeAndre Hopkins is set to visit the Patriots this week.
The Patriots hired Bill O'Brien as OC. He returns to the same position he held in 2011, when New England ranked 2nd in total yards and 3rd in points with QB Tom Brady. O'Brien was also on the Patriots' offensive staff from 2007 to 2010, so he has plenty of familiarity with the organization. Since leaving New England after that 2011 campaign, O'Brien spent 2 years as Penn State's HC, 7 years as the Texans' HC and, most recently, the past 2 years as Alabama's OC. If nothing else, the Patriots will have a legitimate offensive mind running the offense in 2023 -- something they didn't have this past season.
Patriots WR Tyquan Thornton (knee) is active for today’s game vs. the Dolphins. He’s only worth considering in DFS tournaments.
Patriots WR DeVante Parker (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 17 vs. the Dolphins. Parker hasn't appeared in a game since Week 14 vs. the Cardinals. We're onto 2023 with the veteran wideout as far as fantasy football is concerned. WR Tyquan Thornton (knee) is listed as questionable after a limited week of practice.
Patriots WR Jakobi Meyers (shoulder) is active for today’s game vs. the Bengals. We’re not worried about the shoulder, but New England’s struggling passing game leaves Meyers as a weak WR3 play. WR Tyquan Thornton (knee) is also active.
Patriots WR Jakobi Meyers (concussion) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Raiders. He went from a limited practice on Wednesday to no practice on Thursday to another limited practice on Friday. That’s a strange progression for a guy in the concussion protocol. Patriots-Raiders doesn’t kick off until 4:05 pm ET on Sunday, but we should get an update on Meyers by that morning. Patriots WR DeVante Parker (concussion) has been ruled out, leaving Nelson Agholor, Tyquan Thornton and Kendrick Bourne as New England’s top 3 healthy WRs.
Patriots WR DeVante Parker (knee) is out for Sunday’s game vs. the Colts. That leaves Jakobi Meyers, Tyquan Thornton, Kendrick Bourne and Nelson Agholor as New England’s top 4 WRs. Meyers is the only bankable Week 9 fantasy play.
Patriots WR Nelson Agholor (hamstring) is active for tonight's game against the Bears. WR Kendrick Bourne (toe) is inactive. We're expecting Agholor to serve as the #4 WR behind Jakobi Meyers, DeVante Parker and Tyquan Thornton.
