Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
Bears LB Roquan Smith is active for today's game against the Texans. He missed practice all week with a hip injury and hit Sunday looking like a true game-time decision. There's risk to playing Smith in IDP lineups. But if he's ready for full playing time, then the numbers should follow. CB Jaylon Johnson (quad) is inactive.
Bears LB Roquan Smith (hip) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Texans. He missed practice all week and doesn't look like a great bet for Week 3 IDP lineups. CB Jaylon Johnson (quad) is also questionable after a Thursday injury that sidelined him Friday.
Bears LB Roquan Smith (hip) missed Wednesday's practice. Smith didn't miss a single snap of Week 2, which would seem to indicate it's not serious. We'll watch his participation level through the week.
Bears LB Roquan Smith practiced with his team for the 1st time in training camp Saturday, ending his "hold in." Smith has reportedly decided to play out the final year of his rookie contract. It's not a shocking move, as Smith has little leverage in his quest for a contract extension. We haven't move him down our rankings through the hold in. We'll see what happens with Smith and the Bears beyond this season.
Bears rookie S Jaquon Brisker recently had surgery to address the thumb injury he suffered in the team's preseason opener, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Brisker reportedly has a decent chance to return for Week 1.
The Bears this week activated LB Roquan Smith off the PUP list, but he remains out of practice. The veteran, of course, has been staging a "hold in" throughout camp in search of a contract extension. We still have yet to see any word on what "injury" landed him on the PUP in the 1st place. HC Matt Eberflus deflected questions on why Smith remains out of practice and whether the team will now fine him for not taking part. This is a nasty situation that seems likely to impact Smith's regular-season outlook -- barring the trade that he recently requested.
Bears LB Roquan Smith announced Tuesday morning that he has requested a trade. The former 1st-round pick is in the final year of his rookie contract and has been unsatisfied with the team's extension offers. "The new front office regime doesn't value me here," Smith wrote. "They've refused to negotiate in good faith. Every step of this journey has been 'take it or leave it.' The deal sent to me is one that would be bad for myself and for the entire LB market if I signed it." This sure doesn't sound like an impasse that can be worked out, with Smith saying he has been trying since April to get a "fair" deal. We'll see whether a trade market materializes. Otherwise, we might see the 25-year-old hold out into the regular season.
According to Kevin Fishbain and Adam Jahns of The Athletic, S Jaquan Brisker and CB Kyler Gordon have "been two of the Bears' best playmakers since their draft selections." The Bears took both in the 1st half of Round 2 of the NFL Draft. Each rookie appears headed for a starting gig. We'd bet on Brisker having the stronger chance at IDP relevance this season.
Bears LB Roquan Smith has reported to training camp, despite a report that he planned to hold out. The team has placed him on the physically unable to perform list, however, and we have yet to see a specified injury. Smith is in the final year of his rookie contract and seeking an extension, but it doesn't sound like the 2 sides have been close. We'll see where this apparent "hold in" goes.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Bears LB Roquan Smith plans to hold out at the start of training camp. Smith is heading into the final year of his rookie contract and reportedly "has not yet received an offer he would remotely consider" on an extension. We're not adjusting our IDP projections on this but will certainly be watching Smith's status during camp.
Penn State S Jaquan Brisker went to the Bears in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft. Brisker averaged 6.3 tackles per game in 2020, and 5.3 per game last season. He didn’t offer much in the big-play categories. Brisker offers nice versatility, though, and tested well athletically. Chicago returns Eddie Jackson at safety but sports an opening at the other spot, which could mean quick IDP value for this Round 2 pick.
The Bears spent their 1st pick of the 2022 NFL Draft on CB Kyler Gordon in Round 2. The former Washington Husky tested just average speed wise but sports decent size at 6'0, 194 pounds and brings intriguing athleticism. Gordon didn't deliver much on the numbers front, with just 2 career INTs and 12 passes defensed.
Former Bengals DT Larry Ogunjobi will be signing with the Bears in free agency, according to multiple reports. Ogunjobi played 16 of 17 regular-season games in his lone Cincinnati season, tallying 49 tackles and a career-high 7 sacks. His 12 tackles for loss and 16 QB hits were also personal bests. Ogunjobi has been a solid, unspectacular producer among DTs through 5 pro seasons and figures to continue on a similar path in his age-28 season. His addition doesn't look like a needle-mover for the Bears defense on whole.
Update: Ogunjobi is not joining the Bears after failing his physical.
Bears edge Robert Quinn (shoulder) is active for today's game against the Vikings. Use him as planned in IDP leagues.
The Bears have activated DE Akiem Hicks from the COVID list. He spent 8 days on the list and will carry risk for IDP rosters in Week 17.
Bears LB Roquan Smith (hamstring) is active for tonight's game against the Vikings. That's not surprising, given that he played last week and finished the practice week with a full workout. DL Akiem Hicks (ankle) is also active. Both players entered the night questionable.
Bears CB Jaylon Johnson and S Tashaun Gipson landed on the COVID list Sunday, knocking them out for Monday night's game against the Vikings. Johnson is easily Chicago's top corner, so the deactivations can only enhance the matchup for Vikings WRs and QB Kirk Cousins.
Bears LB Roquan Smith (hamstring) is active for today's game against the Cardinals. He managed just 1 limited practice this week (Friday) and still carries some risk, but it's tough to sit fantasy's top-scoring LB unless you're loaded at the position.
Bears LB Roquan Smith is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals. He missed the first 2 days of practice with the hamstring injury that knocked him out of the Thanksgiving game. Smith did return for a limited Friday workout, but he looks risky even if active. Weigh that risk as you compare Smith to your other IDP options. We’ll update his status Sunday morning. The Bears have also ruled DL Akiem Hicks out for the game
