Why Every Coach Wanted McMillan
Every school wanted Tetairoa McMillan.
He drew offers from Oregon, LSU, Notre Dame, USC, and many others. No surprise there, as the Servite (CA) high school star was the No. 4 ranked WR in the 2022 class (per 247Sports).
The 6’4, 195-pounder ultimately settled on Arizona, where he’d soon be reunited with his high school QB, Noah Fifita.
McMillan's Freshman Season Outshines Expectations
As a true freshman, McMillian ranked third on the team in catches (39) and receiving yards (702). He led the group in receiving TDs (8).
McMillan’s 81 targets ranked third on the team. But consider that he played behind third-year sophomore Jacob Cowing, San Francisco’s fourth-round pick in 2024. McMillian’s still-solid 6.7 targets per game weren’t far behind true sophomore Dorian Singer’s 8.1.
McMillan Delivers as a True WR1
McMillian became a household name in the fall of 2023.
His numbers rose across the board, as he overtook Cowing as Arizona’s WR1…
Tetairoa McMillan
Targets: 130
Catches: 90
Yards: 1,396
TDs: 10
YAC Per Reception: 6.0
Yards Per Route Run: 2.79
Jacob Cowing
Targets: 121
Catches: 89
Yards: 868
TDs: 13
YAC Per Reception: 5.8
Yards Per Route Run: 1.92
The rise to stardom coincided with the insertion of Fifita at QB. Predictably, the duo showed a strong connection, leading to a catch rate of nearly 70%.
Nationally, McMillan ranked ninth in catches and fifth in receiving yards. Only 15 WRs beat his TD total, including big names like Brian Thomas Jr., Malik Nabers, and Marvin Harrison Jr.
McMillan effectively used his massive frame to catch half of his contested targets, per Pro Football Focus. He also proved reliable with a drop rate of only 2.2%.
Now, could he reach another level in 2024?
McMillan Attacks Rehab with Pro Mentality
McMillan sustained a lower leg injury in April, 2024. He underwent a “little procedure,” per new HC Brent Brennan. (Former HC Jeff Fisch left for the University of Washington that January.)
While the injury supplied a roadblock, McMillan’s rehab offered a window into his desire for greatness. Arizona WR coach Bobby Wade said his top target handled leg rehab "like a pro."
Wade continued (via Tucson.com).
“You can see his focus in his rehab and his ability to push himself in the rehab like it’s preparation for a game or preparation for practice. “He’s at every meeting on time, he’s one of the first guys in the building. He’s still handling it like a pro. That’s his job right now until it changes. That’s where his responsibilities are, and he’s taking care of it.”
Let’s see the result of all that hard work…
McMillan Wastes No Time Reminding Us He’s Him
In short: McMillan remained terrific.
He dominated several games, including a 304-yard effort vs. New Mexico. He hit 100 yards in four other matchups.
McMillian’s catch rate dropped by nearly five percentage points, due in part to a higher drop rate. There’s nothing alarming in his profile, though. In fact, he hit a career high in yards per route run (2.87). That ranked sixth among 42 WRs with 100+ targets.
It’s also worth considering this nugget from an AFC scouting director, via Lance Zierlein’s scouting report:
“He got hurt in the spring and I don’t know that he ever made it back to 100 percent. The 2023 tape gives you a better idea of who he is.”

Mike Evans-like Size and Red Zone Ability
McMillan's size jumps off the screen.
Whether he's actually 6'5 or 6'4 doesn't really matter. He clearly has excellent length, and it's used effectively to win at the catch point.
Here's one example:

McMillan ended his college career with a huge 12.2% TD rate. It's easy to see him developing into a red zone weapon in the pros.
Route Running Savvy, RAC Skill Should Boost Numbers
McMillan also does a nice job with hand usage, which helps him vs. physical DBs. That's key, as he's not a true burner, and his routes aren't always the sharpest. (That's a tough ask given his long strides.)

Speaking of long strides, here's a nice look at McMillan in space. From 2023-2024, he averaged 5.7 yards after catch per reception. Solid -- especially when you consider his average depth of target (14.0 yards).
He also forced a missed tackle every 4.1 catches over the past two seasons, per PFF.
Also note: For his career, McMillan ran 23% of his route from the slot. So there's some potential for him to play inside and exploit mismatches in the NFL.

McMillan's Ball Skills Make Him a QB's Best Friend
Finally, there's the flash that's littered throughout McMillan's tape. He made several impressive one-handed grabs in his Arizona career, with one example shown below.
OK -- officially, the catch was wiped out. But consider the distance the ball traveled. And the tight coverage. And the body control to even have a shot at making the catch. All extremely impressive.
The takeaway: McMillan has the ball skills and flexibility to make contested catches, traits that'll be paramount in the pros.

Tetairoa McMillan Team Fit: Las Vegas Raiders
McMillian would slide into a nice long-term spot for targets. While the Raiders hit on TE Brock Bowers, the cupboard appears bare at WR.
Jakobi Meyers is a solid complementary piece, but he turns 29 in-season. He also enters the final year of his three-year deal.
Indeed, the Raiders remain without a quality QB. But they'll likely be positioned to select a long-term answer in the 2026 draft, should they remain needy.
Dynasty Value Conclusion: WR1 Traits with the Production to Match
McMillan checks boxes for size, ball skills, and production. He's not a pure separator, but his length and strength at the catch point suggest a potential target magnet at the next level.
He's commonly compared to Drake London, and the tape backs that up.
With potential top-10 draft capital, the 22-year-old looks set for a fantasy-friendly role as soon as this fall.
