Perfect Draft: 10-Team Non-PPR (updated Sept. 1)

By Jared Smola | Updated on Tue, 23 May 2023 . 1:27 PM EDT

Bill Belichick wouldn’t go into Sunday without a game plan, right?

Likewise, you shouldn’t go into your fantasy draft without a plan. You’ll of course need to be able to adjust throughout the draft and pounce wherever value presents itself. The dynamic MVP Board with Suggested Picks feature will help with that.

But building a round-by-round strategy beforehand certainly helps. That’s exactly what we’re doing with the Perfect Draft series — using the MVP Board and ADP to get an idea of where the value will be in each round.

This is the 10-Team Non-PPR Perfect Draft. All of these strategy guides assume 16-round drafts and starting lineups of 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 Flex, 1 K and 1 DEF. The MVP Board will help you adjust your strategy if your league settings are different.

Note: This draft plan was updated on September 1. Updates are reflected in bold text.

Picks 1, 2 or 3

Round 1

QB:

RB: David Johnson

WR: Antonio Brown, Odell Beckham, Julio Jones

TE:

Even in non-PPR, Brown is the #1 pick. His combination of safety and upside is unmatched.

Johnson comes up ahead of Beckham and Jones in the Suggested Picks. He’s projected for more PPR points than the WRs at a thinner position.

Feel free to take Beckham or Jones over Johnson, though. They’re more proven and safer than the 2nd-year back.

Some projection tweaks to the top of our RB rankings have moved Beckham and Jones ahead of Johnson. The WRs are certainly safer picks, even in non-PPR.

Round 2

QB:

RB: Doug Martin, Mark Ingram, Jamaal Charles

WR: Mike Evans, Alshon Jeffery

TE:

There’s a slim chance that Lamar Miller makes it to you here. If he does, pounce on the Texans’ new workhorse.

Otherwise, you’ll likely find Martin, Charles and Freeman atop your Suggested Picks. Martin has a significant edge in the projections, but he also has the best chance to make it back to you in the 3rd.

If you feel like rolling the dice, grab Charles, Freeman or the top-ranked WR available.

Miller is going at 2.03 now, so he's even less likely to make it to you in the late 2nd. Freeman also figures to be gone. His ADP is up to 2.04. Meanwhile, Ingram moved ahead of Charles in our rankings.

Round 3

QB:

RB: Doug Martin, Mark Ingram, Eddie Lacy

WR: Mike Evans, Alshon Jeffery, Brandon Marshall, T.Y. Hilton

TE:

Even if you started RB-RB, Martin and Charles will likely be the top Suggested Picks here if they’re available. Don’t be afraid to grab RBs with your first 3 picks — assuming you can start 3. Having at least 2 RBs through 3 rounds is preferable.

Jeffery, Marshall and Hilton also make strong picks here.

Charles' ADP is at 2.07 now, so don't expect to see him here.

Evans, on the other hand, is now slipping into the early 3rd round.

Round 4

QB:

RB: C.J. Anderson, Carlos Hyde, Jeremy Hill, Latavius Murray

WR: Randall Cobb, Michael Floyd, Golden Tate, Jeremy Maclin, Donte Moncrief

TE: Jordan Reed

If C.J. Anderson makes it here — and you don’t already have 3 RBs — he’s the recommended pick.

Otherwise, Randall Cobb and Jordan Reed make excellent additions to their respective positions.

Anderson is now going in the early 4th round. Hyde is your more likely RB target.

Note that Floyd, Tate, Maclin and Moncrief are all going in the 6th round, so you can likely wait at least 1 more pick before grabbing 1 of them.

Round 5

QB:

RB: Carlos Hyde, Jeremy Hill, Jeremy Langford, Latavius Murray

WR: Michael Floyd, Golden Tate, Jeremy Maclin, Donte Moncrief

TE: Jordan Reed

Reed presents monster upside for this cost if he’s still available in the 5th.

This is also a great time to add our 2016 Breakout Player, Floyd.

Round 6

QB:

RB: Jonathan Stewart, Ryan Matthews

WR: Eric Decker, Jordan Matthews

TE: Travis Kelce

Nice options at both RB and WR here, so target the position of greater need.

Travis Kelce might appear in your Suggested Picks, but we can likely find better TE value later.

We've removed Matt Jones from consideration here. Stewart's ADP is now up to 6.04.

At WR, we removed John Brown, who's now going in the 8th round.

Round 7

QB:

RB: Frank Gore, Ryan Matthews, Matt Jones

WR: Eric Decker, John Brown, Jordan Matthews

TE: Travis Kelce

Drew Brees makes sense if he drops this far.

Otherwise, continue adding to your RB or WR depth. Note that Gore might be the top RB available, but his ADP is in the 11th round.

This is a good time to target Frank Gore, who's ADP is up to 7.10.

Brees' ADP is now in the 4th round. Pass.

Round 8

QB: Eli Manning

RB: Gio Bernard, Ameer Abdullah, Rashad Jennings

WR: John Brown, Marvin Jones

TE: Delanie Walker, Coby Fleener

Carson Palmer is a nice QB target at the 8th/9th-round turn.

The best value, though, is at RB, where Gore, Mathews and Abdullah could all serve as weekly starters.

Carson Palmer's ADP is up to 6.09. Eli Manning's is up to 8.03. He's a fine target if available here, but QB value remains later on.

Frank Gore and Ryan Mathews are now unlikely to be here, but Bernard, Abdullah and Jennings are nice values.

Round 9

QB: Philip Rivers

RB: Ameer Abdullah, Rashad Jennings

WR: Marvin Jones, DeSean Jackson, Josh Gordon

TE: Julius Thomas

We’d recommend securing your QB1 by the 9th round. There’s a bit of a drop-off after Palmer, Rivers and Manning come off the board.

Don’t feel obliged to have your TE1 at this point. There will be nice options available in the double-digit rounds.

This is a nice spot to nab Philip Rivers.

Rounds 10 & 11

QB: Tyrod Taylor, Jameis Winston

RB: Isaiah Crowell, Chris Ivory, LeGarrette Blount, T.J. Yeldon

WR: Kevin White, Vincent Jackson, Michael Crabtree

TE: Julius Thomas, Antonio Gates

This is the sweet spot for TEs, with Thomas and Gates looking like prime values.

If you’re set at TE, Gore and Jennings are excellent targets. Williams figures to produce RB1 numbers while Le’Veon Bell serves his 4-game suspension.

Lots of changes to the RB and WR targets. The TEs remain the best values.

Rounds 12 & 13

QB: Tyrod Taylor, Marcus Mariota, Matt Stafford

RB: Isaiah Crowell, LeGarrette Blount, Charles Sims, Bilal Powell

WR: Vincent Jackson, Corey Coleman, Willie Snead, Torrey Smith

TE: Martellus Bennett, Dwayne Allen

Gates might still be hanging around if you passed on him at the last turn.

Still looking for a QB? Kirk Cousins and Tony Romo pair nicely.

You're obviously not taking Romo here, but nice QB value remains

Gates' ADP is up to 11.10. If you don't have a TE yet, Bennett should be a priority.

Rounds 14 & 15

QB: Ryan Tannehill, Ryan Fitzpatrick

RB: Bilal Powell, Tevin Coleman

WR: Mike Wallace, Markus Wheaton, Kamar Aiken, Michael Thomas, Philip Dorsett

TE: Eric Ebron, Jared Cook, Charles Clay

DEF: Vikings, Seahawks, Texans, Eagles

Aim for upside with 1 of these picks are grab your defense with the other. The Vikings, Seahawks and Texans will likely be the top units available, but the Eagles open with a plus matchup at home vs. the Browns.

Round 16

Grab your kicker here — unless your draft goes beyond 16 rounds. Justin Tucker, Mason Crosby, Chandler Catanzaro, Dan Bailey, Adam Vinatieri and Steven Hauschka all enter fine Week 1 matchups.

Picks 4, 5, 6 or 7

Round 1

QB:

RB: David Johnson, Lamar Miller, Ezekiel Elliott

WR: Julio Jones

TE: Rob Gronkowski

Johnson and Jones are your top 2 targets in this range.

If they’re both gone — along with Antonio Brown, Odell Beckham and Todd Gurley — your choice comes down to Miller, Gronkowski and Elliott. Miler and Gronk are higher in the rankings, but they also have a better shot of making it back to you in the 2nd round.

The targets have remained the same here. Gronk and Miller aren't great bets to make it back to you in the 2nd, though.

Round 2

QB:

RB: Lamar Miller, Doug Martin, Mark Ingram, Jamaal Charles

WR: Allen Robinson, Mike Evans

TE: Rob Gronkowski

Miller and Gronk are pristine values if still available here. If not, you’re looking at Martin, Charles, Robinson and Evans. Note that the 2 RBs have a better chance of being available in the 3rd.

Ingram moved ahead of Charles in our rankings.

Round 3

QB:

RB: Doug Martin, Mark Ingram, LeSean McCoy

WR: Mike Evans, Alshon Jeffery, Brandon Marshall, T.Y. Hilton

TE:

Martin and Charles are steals if still on the board at this point.

If not, the WRs look like nice picks. There will be some strong RB options in the 4th round.

Charles' ADP is at 2.07, so don't expect to see him here.

There's now a chance that either Evans or Jeffery makes it to you in the mid-3rd.

Round 4

QB:

RB: C.J. Anderson, Carlos Hyde

WR: Brandin Cooks, Randall Cobb

TE:

Grab a RB if you don’t already have 2 — and maybe even if you do.

Thomas and Cobb are also excellent values here.

Mark Ingram and LeSean McCoy were previously listed as targets but are now unlikely to be available.

We removed Demaryius Thomas from consideration and added Cooks, whose ADP has slipped into the 4th.

Round 5

QB:

RB: Jeremy Hill

WR: Michael Floyd, Golden Tate, Jeremy Maclin, Donte Moncrief

TE: Jordan Reed

This is a good time to secure our 2016 Breakout Player, Floyd.

Consider Reed if he makes it to you here. His ADP is now at 5.03.

Round 6

QB:

RB: Jeremy Langford, Jonathan Stewart, Ryan Mathews

WR: Michael Floyd, Golden Tate, Jeremy Maclin, Donte Moncrief, Eric Decker

TE: Travis Kelce

Nice options at both RB and WR here, so target the position of greater need.

Travis Kelce might appear in your Suggested Picks, but we can likely find better TE value later.

Floyd, Tate, Maclin and Moncrief are all going in the 6th round now. They all represent sweet value at that cost.

Round 7

QB:

RB: Frank Gore, Ryan Mathews, Matt Jones, Gio Bernard

WR: John Brown, Jordan Matthews

TE: Travis Kelce

Decker and Brown stand out as particularly strong values here. Don't be afraid to pair Brown with teammate Michael Floyd.

Note that Gore might be the top RB available, but his ADP is in the 11th round.

Gore is going at 7.10 now, so this is the time to snag him.

Brown is going in the 8th round now, so you can likely wait on him.

Kelce's ADP is at 7.01. He's a nice value here.

Round 8

QB: Eli Manning

RB: Gio Bernard, Ameer Abdullah, Rashad Jennings

WR: John Brown, Tyler Lockett, Allen Hurns, Marvin Jones

TE: Coby Fleener

This is a fine spot to take your QB1 or TE1. Make TE the priority if you still need to fill both spots. A couple of good QB options should remain in the 9th.

Carson Palmer was previously listed here, but he's now going in Round 6. Manning's ADP is up into the 8th. He's a fine value, but we'll find plenty of QB value later.

Round 9

QB: Philip Rivers

RB: Rashad Jennings, Danny Woodhead

WR: Marvin Jones, DeSean Jackson

TE: Julius Thomas

If you don’t have a QB yet, we’d recommend snagging 1 here — assuming Palmer, Manning or Rivers is available.

If you’re set at QB and TE, continue building depth at RB or WR.

This is a good spot for Rivers, whose ADP is now at 9.09.

Rashad Jennings is a steal here, especially if you still need your RB3. Ditto Marvin Jones if you need WR reinforcements.

Round 10

QB: Jameis Winston

RB: Isaiah Crowell, LeGarrette Blount, T.J. Yeldon

WR: Kevin White, Michael Crabtree

TE: Julius Thomas, Antonio Gates

The fact that Thomas and Gates might still be hanging around here should make you feel good about waiting on a TE.

Gore and Jennings are nice floor plays at RB; Williams should produce RB1 numbers while Le’Veon Bell serves his 4-game suspension to open the season.

Jones, Jackson and Smith should all boast high weekly ceilings.

This remains an excellent spot to target your TE, with at least 1 of Thomas and Gates likely available.

Round 11

QB: Tyrod Taylor

RB: Isaiah Crowell, LeGarrette Blount, Jay Ajayi

WR: Kevin White, Vincent Jackson

TE: Antonio Gates

Useful pieces still remain at RB, WR and TE here. RB and TE looks especially strong. Gore, Williams and Jennings are all inside our top 32; Gates and Barnidge are top 10 in our rankings.

The available RBs aren't as strong now. But Kevin White's ADP has dropped into the 11th. He's a high-upside chance worth taking.

Round 12

QB: Tyrod Taylor, Marcus Mariota, Matt Stafford

RB: Isaiah Crowell, Charles Sims, Bilal Powell

WR: Vincent Jackson, Corey Coleman, Willie Snead

TE: Martellus Bennett, Dwayne Allen

Gates might still be hanging around if you passed on him at the last turn.

Still looking for a QB? Kirk Cousins and Tony Romo pair nicely.

You're obviously not taking Romo here, but nice QB value remains.

Gates' ADP is up to 11.10. If you don't have a TE yet, Bennett should be a priority.

Round 13

QB: Marcus Mariota, Ryan Tannehill, Ryan Fitzpatrick

RB: Charles Sims, Bilal Powell, Tevin Coleman

WR: Vincent Jackson, Corey Coleman, Torrey Smith

TE: Martellus Bennett, Dwayne Allen

DEF: Cardinals

Aim for upside with these late-round picks. The guys listed above all fit the bill.

You can also consider our top-ranked defense, the Cardinals, here. But you’re better off waiting and playing the matchups with your defense all season.

Round 14

QB: Ryan Tannehill, Ryan Fitzpatrick

RB: Bilal Powell, Tevin Coleman

WR: Mike Wallace, Markus Wheaton, Kamar Aiken, Michael Thomas, Philip Dorsett

TE: Eric Ebron, Jared Cook, Charles Clay

DEF: Vikings, Seahawks, Texans, Eagles

Add more upside here or snag your defense. The Vikings, Seahawks and Texans will likely be the top units available.

Round 15

QB: Ryan Tannehill, Ryan Fitzpatrick

RB: Bilal Powell,

WR: Mike Wallace, Kamar Aiken, Philip Dorsett, Mohamed Sanu

TE: Eric Ebron, Jared Cook, Charles Clay

DEF: Vikings, Seahawks, Texans, Eagles

The Eagles defense opens with a plus matchup at home vs. the Browns.

Round 16

Grab your kicker here — unless your draft goes beyond 16 rounds. Justin Tucker, Mason Crosby, Chandler Catanzaro, Dan Bailey, Adam Vinatieri and Steven Hauschka all enter fine Week 1 matchups.

Picks 8, 9 or 10

Round 1

QB:

RB: Lamar Miller, Ezekiel Elliott

WR: A.J. Green

TE: Rob Gronkowski

Stick to your Board here and take the best player available. The lone exception is Lamar Miller, whose ADP is at 2.05. You could gamble that he makes it back to you in the 2nd.

Miller's ADP is now at 2.03, so he's a bit less likely to be there for you if you're picking at 2.02 or 2.03.

Round 2

QB:

RB: Lamar Miller, Doug Martin

WR: Allen Robinson

TE: Rob Gronkowski

Miller is definitely the pick if he’s still available here. Gronk is next up in the pecking order.

If they’re both gone, your Suggested Picks will likely be — in order — Adrian Peterson, Doug Martin and Allen Robinson.

Peterson's ADP is up to 1.06.

Round 3

QB:

RB: LeSean McCoy, C.J. Anderson

WR: Alshon Jeffery, T.Y. Hilton, Brandin Cooks

TE:

Martin and Ingram are your top 2 targets if you don’t already have 2 RBs. And they might be worth taking even if you started RB-RB.

Marshall, Hilton and Cooks would all make solid WR1s for your squad.

Doug Martin and Mark Ingram are going in the early 3rd round now.

Brandon Marshall (3.01 ADP) was removed here and replaced by Alshon Jeffery (3.08).

Round 4

QB:

RB: C.J. Anderson, Carlos Hyde

WR: Brandin Cooks, Randall Cobb

TE:

Plan on having at least 2 and maybe 3 RBs by this point.

If you built a beastly backfield by going RB with each of your first 3 picks, snag Hilton, Thomas or Cobb here.

Cooks' ADP has dropped to 4.01. He's a steal if you can get him here.

Round 5

QB:

RB: Jeremy Hill, Jeremy Langford

WR: Michael Floyd, Golden Tate, Jeremy Maclin, Donte Moncrief

TE: Greg Olsen

WRs look like the best values here — led by our 2016 Breakout Player, Floyd.

We're comfy with Langford at the end of the 5th, but the WRs remain the best bets here.

Round 6

QB:

RB: Jeremy Langford, Frank Gore

WR: Michael Floyd, Golden Tate, Jeremy Maclin, Donte Moncrief

TE: Travis Kelce

Kelce might appear in your Suggested Picks here, but we can likely land better TE value later.

Your better bet is to add to your RB or WR depth. If you’re sitting on just 2 RBs, Hill looks like a particularly nice value in the 6th round of a non-PPR draft.

Floyd, Tate, Maclin and Moncrief are all sitting in the 6th round in ADP now.

Gore's ADP is up to 7.10, so grab him here if you want to make sure you land him.

Round 7

QB:

RB: Frank Gore, Matt Jones, Gio Bernard

WR: John Brown, Jordan Matthews, Tyler Lockett

TE: Delanie Walker, Coby Fleener

Gore is likely the top-ranked RB on your Board at this point, but his ADP is sitting in the 11th round.

Don’t be afraid to pair Brown with teammate Michael Floyd.

This is now the time to target Gore.

Carson Palmer and Tom Brady were previously listed here, but both guys are going in Round 6 now. No thanks.

Round 8

QB: Eli Manning

RB: Frank Gore, Gio Bernard, Ameer Abdullah

WR: John Brown, Tyler Lockett, Allen Hurns, Marvin Jones

TE: Delanie Walker, Coby Fleener

This is a good round to add your QB1 or TE1 if you haven’t already. Palmer, Walker and Fleener are especially nice values.

If you draft Brady, make sure to add help for those first 4 weeks when he’s suspended.

Manning's ADP is up into the 8th round. He's a fine value, but we'll find plenty of QB value later.

Brown's price tag has dropped into the 8th because of his headache issue. He's well worth the gamble here.

Round 9

QB: Philip Rivers

RB: Rashad Jennings, Danny Woodhead

WR: Marvin Jones, DeSean Jackson

TE: Julius Thomas

If you don’t have a QB yet, we’d recommend snagging 1 here — assuming Palmer, Manning or Rivers is available.

If you’re set at QB and TE, continue building depth at RB or WR.

This is a good spot for Rivers, whose ADP is now at 9.09.

Rashad Jennings and Marvin Jones are both strong values here.

Round 10

QB: Jameis Winston

RB: Chris Ivory, T.J. Yeldon

WR: Kevin White, Michael Crabtree

TE: Julius Thomas, Antonio Gates, Gary Barnidge

The best value here is at RB, where Gore and Jennings look like weekly starters and Williams should provide RB1 production while Le’Veon Bell serves his 4-game suspension.

Thomas is also a nice target here and might be worth grabbing even as a 2nd TE. You could use him in the flex spot.

Those big values at RB are gone. The TEs look like your best bets here.

Rounds 11 & 12

QB: Tyrod Taylor, Marcus Mariota, Matt Stafford

RB: Isaiah Crowell, LeGarrette Blount, Jay Ajayi

WR: Vincent Jackson, Corey Coleman, Willie Snead

TE: Antonio Gates, Martellus Bennett, Dwayne Allen

Useful pieces still remain at RB, WR and TE here. Gates and Barnidge sit inside our top 10 TEs.

If you’ve been shut out at QB so far, consider pairing Cousins and Romo.

You're obviously not taking Romo here, but nice QB value remains.

Gates' ADP is up to 11.10. If he's gone and you still need a TE, make Bennett a priority.

Rounds 13 & 14

QB: Ryan Tannehill, Ryan Fitzpatrick

RB: Bilal Powell, Tevin Coleman

WR: Mike Wallace, Markus Wheaton, Kamar Aiken, Michael Thomas, Philip Dorsett

TE: Eric Ebron, Jared Cook, Charles Clay

DEF: Cardinals

Aim for upside with these late-round picks. The guys listed above all fit the bill.

You can also consider our top-ranked defense, the Cardinals, here. But you’re better off waiting and playing the matchups with your defense all season.

Rounds 15 & 16

Secure your defense and kicker. The Vikings and Texans might still be available. Or the Eagles, who open with a plus matchup at home vs. the Browns.

Justin Tucker, Mason Crosby, Chandler Catanzaro, Dan Bailey, Adam Vinatieri and Steven Hauschka all enter fine Week 1 matchups.
