The Philadelphia Eagles selected Florida RB Montrell Johnson Jr. to an Undrafted Free Agent contract after the 2025 NFL Draft. Johnson started off at Louisiana, where he led the backfield in carries (162) and TDs (12) as a freshman. He transferred to Florida the next year after his HC – Billy Napier – took the same job in Gainesville. Johnson played a 1A role ahead of Trevor Etienne in 2022 and 2023. In August of 2024, he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery. Later that season, he missed several games with a lower-body injury. Johnson still flashed when active, setting career highs in yards per carry (5.9) and PFF Elusive Rating (86.0) in 2024. It’s easy to lose Johnson in a loaded RB class, but he has the requisite athleticism to earn snaps.
Johnson flashed some NFL ability at Louisiana but followed HC Billy Napier to Florida.
He started over RB Trevor Etienne who was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the fourth round.
Johnson's receiving ability and speed makes him an intriguing signing for the Eagles who only have A.J. Dillon and Will Shipley behind Saquon Barkley.
Even with a thinner depth chart, Johnson is unlikely to crack the roster.
He has no redraft or dynasty value right now.
