Chargers Bolster Backfield with Omarion Hampton

Omarion Hampton Headshot

The Chargers selected North Carolina RB Omarion Hampton with the 22nd pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Hampton stayed home in North Carolina after high school instead of attending a bigger program like Penn State or Florida. The decision worked out, as he took over the starting role by his second season and never looked back. Hampton carried the UNC offense for the last two years – including when Drake Maye was his QB (2023). Over that span, the 221-pounder racked up 3,164 rushing yards, 33 total TDs, and 67 catches. Hampton wins with excellent power and contact balance, and he’s largely proven durable as a college player. He hasn’t missed a game due to injury over the past two seasons.

2025 Fantasy Football Impact

Hampton will battle Najee Harris for touches this summer. The former Steeler signed a fully guaranteed one-year, $5.25 million deal in March. He’s racked up 1,277 touches across four seasons, although he’s yet to miss an NFL game.

As for Hampton – he’s clearly talented enough to eventually earn a 1A role. He also has the receiving chops to become a factor for Justin Herbert – especially if the RB’s pass protection improves.

Dynasty Impact

Hampton should slide into a clear RB1 role come 2026. With HC Jim Harbaugh and OC Greg Roman in charge, the Chargers have the run-game infrastructure to support a high ceiling.

Hampton ultimately profiles as a fringe RB1 across dynasty formats.
